 I can never understand why the nation of the people in the charts is a factor - its about the actual music for me.

6 of the 9 number ones this year have been by British acts. (And of the remaining three only Give It To Me has been throughly American given that Rihanna is from Barbados and Shakira is from Columbia).
I just looked at the release schedule, and next week there is absolutely nothing that stands a chance of making #1, so Rihanna will make it at least 10 weeks.

... and before the release of Umbrella I thought she will stay only 3 weeks at #1 :o

even give it to me wasn't fully american-nelly furtado is from Canada.

Why isn't there anything good out? i don't mind rihanna being number 1 for ages but i really don't think timbaland should be number 1 within the next fw weeks. not only is it tripe, but its very forgettable. i hope rihanna will stay number 1 for many more weeks to come if nothing decent is going to be released.

 I usually remember that!

Also, now I think about it I'm probably wrong about Mika as well, is he technically British or not? Does anyone know?

Either way most of the chart toppers this year have been by British acts, so the point still stands even if the facts aren't 100% inaccurate.

I quite like there being less number 1s. It shows some songs are really loved if they have staying power rather than dropping like a stone. It's not just the number 1 that's interesting :D
Surprised at The Enemy being number one album. Didn't know they were that popular.

Anyway, well done to Rihanna. Umbrella is a good song, and certainly better than any of the songs it stopped from being number one. I hope trashy Fergie doesn't get to number one. Her new single is awful.

Hope Arctic Monkeys stay top ten by Sunday as well.

They aren't, they'll tail off in the next few weeks. It's just the NME up their usual tricks again.

-_- I was hoping Fergie could get no.1 this week

I'm now doubting the chance of Mutya bein no.1 now its up against Timbaland -_-

I can see Umbrella being no1 until we get a heatwave.
I dont mind really :D Timbo or Mut, I'll be happy ^_^

Yep, both good songs, and overall worthy successors to the brilliance of Umbrella  . Then of course we have the other side of the coin, the return of Elvis :puke2: IS ANYONE ACTUALLY GOING TO LINE THE POCKETS OF THE RECORD COMPANY BY PAYING £3.99 A WEEK FOR A SECOND TIME?! I despair..
