Never was there ever a more non descript year in Neighbours. I honestly can’t remember what happened in that year, if memory serves, 2013 was when the show started picking up again.
  • 2 weeks later...

50 classic Neighbours episodes and the 2012 episodes are now on Freevee!

Watching some 2002/3 gems <3

The 2005 one has Sindi and Izzy *.*

I’m looking forward to delving into some of these later. I’ll start with some selected classics but I’ll probably move on to the not so classic 2012 later.

Honestly I don’t actually think 2012 was necessarily a poor year for Neighbours, it’s more that it just wasn’t memorable at all. I can’t even think what the bad storylines were that year.

I'd checked out at that point.

I remember I watched until about 2008, and then again at various times from 2014-16 and full-time again from the Dee storyline (2017?), so I recall nothing of 2012 and don't know half of the characters, having just looked at one of the episodes.

I might have a look at it at some point, after I've got through all the classics.

From what I can remember, 2012 was a transition year, seeing out the awful Bower and trying to stabilise the show. I think Connor returned at the end of that year when Toadie and Sonya were expecting and this was the first time there’d been a returning character for years as the show had lost its sense of history. 2013 was the year I really felt quality return to the show and it was pretty much there from that point until it ‘ended’.

2012 is a bit of an odd year.

I’ll check out some of those classic 50 episodes over the weekend though.

I just started with that 2005 one I think-lots of good Janelle too!

Also just watched one from 2009-not the most vintage year and the step down in quality is evident but there were still some great characters around-Donna, Rebecca, Steve, Elle, Sam.

Yes, love her.

Yeah was pleased to see some Donna episodes on there, you can really see the talent in Margot Robbie even then, certainly compared to a lot of the cast at the time like wooden Didge.

Didge was horrendous and so, looking at those eps, was Ty. Ringo wasn’t so bad but the writing for him was awful.

Donna did stick out among a bad bunch even at the time, she was a reason to watch. Eventually the writing for her got very tedious and Margot got out at the right time.

Will put on or two of these on today with lunch I think. 2002 or 2005 era sounds like a good place to start.

Watched the 2005 and some 2009/10 ones today.

Donna, Rebecca, Elle, Izzy and Declan (original) all pretty good.

Bridgette, Declan (re-cast) were two I never liked. Ty and Ned weren’t great either.

I’d forgotten about the recast Declan until I came across an episode with him yesterday. What a terrible move by the show.

Didge really was an awful character. Not only was the acting and styling appalling but the writing for her was absolutely horrendous.

It was quite emotional watching Toadie and Dee get married again. Not only knowing what happens at the end of the episode but now knowing what happened all those years later.

I watched Dee & Toadies wedding episode again about 10 years ago before she returned. Would be good to go back and watch n now knowing what happened.

Neighbours made some very poor casting and character choices in the 2007-2010 era.

It was all the worst that they also tended to hone in on those very weak links in the cast and actively pushed them to be the lead characters.

The choice to build a whole family around Ned Parker, and then promote Didge as their shining star. Ty... good grief. And the Sunny Lee era was woeful - it's why I'm to this day perfectly happy without the school being a main focus of the show.

Oh no… poor Libby

Ikonec. She didn’t even seem human enough to pass as a robot in that scene

Which one was Ned again? The fit one that also did an episode of Death In Paradise?

There were two Neds. Ned Willis who was fairly recent but the poster of referring to the infamous Ned Parker who was played by and Australian Idol finalist and could not act to save his life.

The Parkers were a terrible replacement for the Timmins family (although it was revealed last year that they almost replaced the Kennedy’s instead!) The writing for them was extremely poor and inconsistent. I did quite like Steve who was also a good actor and Riley didn’t offend. Miranda I think was played by a capable actress but the character was given horrendous traits and inconsistent characterisation. Didge of course was the worst of all because she wasn’t pleasant, couldn’t act, was given horrendous writing and suffered from extreme amounts of producer favouritism. There’s no was every boy in RS was desperate to date her and yet that’s how it was portrayed.
