28 Days Later? I mean, it's alright but why is it made out to be some kind of classic?

And what about Sunshine? That has possibly got to be one of the worst films I've seen in a long, LONG time.

28 Days (and the superior 28 Weeks) later are both amazing films. I think they are both classics for sure. Of course, I can't leave out Trainspotting, one of the iconic films of the 90s. So, no, not entirely over-rated, imo.

I agree, Sunshine was c**p :/

But I've loved all of his other movies so I don't think he's overrated at all :cheer:

TBH, I kinda liked "Sunshine"... The only place I think it went wrong was when it turned into "Event Horizon" in the last 20 minutes or so, but up til then, I liked it, the way the characters interacted reminded me of "Alien" - a bunch of pissed off people stuck in a spaceship getting on each other's nerves

Same with "28 Days Later", great set-up, the first hour or so is brilliant, it's only the final act that let things down a bit...

So, no, I dont think Danny Boyle is over-rated as such, but by the same token, he's not quite the cinematic genius he's made out to be

TOTALLY agree with what you said about "28 Days Later", Grim. I was so let down. :(
I liked both films. I like the way it has another story in the film. Like in sunshine, it's not just about taking the bomb to restart the sun, it also has a bit of horror in it as well.

Seems to me he needs another writing partner. Alex Garland comes up with these great beginnings and middles, but the final acts are a bit of a let-down. He's a bit like Stephen King in that respect... If you look at the films he did with John Hodge as screenwriter ("Shallow Grave", "Trainspotting" and "A Life Less Ordinary"), they were certainly more structurally consistant....

I'm reviving this, i hope its ok

I don't think Danny Boyle's overrated. 28 Weeks Later and Sunshine are my two favourite films i've seen this year (yeah i know they were released in 2007). OK i'm not saying that it was just the director that made the films great, the scripts/screenplay seemed VERY good. I know it doesn't exactly MAKE a film but i'd like to point out how awesome the 28 Weeks Later theme music is too. The graphics of Sunshine are some of the best graphics i've ever seen too  . So those two points are probably not Danny Boyle's "work" but i still think he's an excellent director. 28 Weeks Later, though not directed by Danny Boyle was excellent on every level and although confusing Sunshine was stunning and had a brilliant concept, if a little bit unrealistic, but its a film. Also; he's British!

Also i don't really think he's overrated anyway; his films have hardly done amazingly in the box office. Sunshine flopped i think.

Yeah I don't think he's overrated either. As far as horror films go both, 28 Days Later, and 28 Weeks later are both excellent films, which are pretty original too. You get a lot of horror films these days (as much as I like them ) that just churn out the same idea with different actors and different locations time and time again. Sunshine was good I thought, but like others have said the last 20 minutes or so I hated. Was shockingly bad, and it let the film down massively imo.
