I think Eastenders are trying to make her less of the silly dumb girl/slapperish character she was into something more respectful - and its working - the glasses make her look intelligent and the performance today was funny! and really well acted!

It did make a change seeing him cast aside the usual I'm-an-angry-tortured-soul-and-I-want-everyone-to-know-it persona for a small while. He's become a lot more likeable since he got closer to Tanya, you get the impression that she's the one person who could bring out his good side.
