Posted October 9, 200718 yr Sugababes to rule both singles and albums chart summits 9 October, 2007 Source: Music Week By Paul Williams Sugababes are on course to head the UK singles and albums charts simultaneously for the second time in their career with new album Change set to match current single About You Now’s chart-topping status. The Island-signed act are presently outselling XL act Jack Penate’s newly-issued debut album Matinée by nearly two units to one with the current number one, Bruce Springsteen’s Columbia-issued Magic, a little further behind to make up the week’s three big sellers so far. If Change holds on as appears to be the case it will give Sugababes their second number one album following Taller In Many Ways, which topped the chart in October 2005 at the same time Push The Button was number one in the singles chart. A new Eric Clapton retrospective, Complete, is expected to debut in the Top 10 this coming Sunday for Polydor, while UB40 frontman Ali Campbell’s solo album Running Free – which is issued on his Crumbs label – is also challenging for a Top 10 entry. A handful of newly-released albums are expected to debut in or around the bottom end of the Top 40 this Sunday, including titles by Universal Republic’s Alter Bridge, UCJ’s Aled Jones, Reprise/Warner’s Michael Buble and Curb/London’s LeAnn Rimes. A new Stevie Wonder Motown best of, Number Ones, is also heading for a Top 40 debut. Sugababes' biggest challenge on singles is presently coming from the latest Sony BMG Elvis Presley re-issue, A Big Hunk O’ Love, although if it follows the sales pattern of previous Presley re-issues will drop down the listings once the final chart is out this Sunday. Data/MoS’s Let Me Think About it by Ida Corr Vs Fedde Le Grand and Syco/Sony BMG’s Shayne Ward with No U Hang Up/If That’s OK With You are continuing to hover around the chart’s top places, while RCA’s Hoosiers will arrive in or around the Top 10 on Sunday with Goodbye Mr A, the follow-up to their long-running hit Worried About Ray. 14th Floor’s Biffy Clyro and Mute’s Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan are expected to have Top 40 entries, but a campaign for Sex Pistols’ God Save The Queen to reach number one 30 years after it stalled behind Rod Stewart will fall somewhat short with the Virgin single at present only the week’s 28th biggest seller. =================================================== Singles 01 Sugababes - About You Now 15k 02 Elvis Presley - A Big Hunk O' Love 6k 03 Ida Corr vs. Fedde Le Grande - Let Me Think About It (30 copies behind Elvis) Top 5 Mark Ronson feat.
