Just saw this today. It was very, very good. Scared the $h!t out of me in some places, but it was a very enjoyable in the end.

I reccomend it if you have a strong stomach. The jerky camera motions WILL make you feel dizzy at some point, and I found that at a few points I had to close my eyes. I didn't feel like I was going to barf; I just had to readjust at some points. The camerawork really added to the effect that movie was going for. Basically, in short, it's Godzilla crossed with Blair Witch Project.

What I think I enjoyed most about the film is that it did not explain itself. It was, essentially, what it was (which you'll get when you see it, I don't want to spoil it for anyone). It put you into the day as it was for the characters in the movie and left it like that. You know as much as the person holding the camcorder does.

Don't go into the movie expecting it to be explained in detail. Enjoy it for what it is. And be prepared to jump quite a few times.

I completely agree with that.

Cloverfield is an excellent film, you've to use your own mind a lot to get to grips with the actual storyline but that's what I like so much about it, it's like you are actually in the film and the film viewer has the same knowledge as the main characters do.

The whole video camera thing is very neatly played and the build up of just what is actually happening is played out very well. When you go to see this, i'd advise you go and see it ASAP as the best part of film of not knowing what IT is, and I don't think the film would have the same effect on you if you already know some of the spoilers.

The ending for this was perfect too. I don't think they could have ended it in a better way.

I can't decide if I want to see this or 27 dresses :(

Oh my days. I've finally seen this film and I have to say, it was amazing. I've not had an experience like that in the cinema since I saw Wolf Creek. I think it was the most fúcked up films I've ever seen. Me and my friends all came out of the cinema completely shell shocked. I don't really know how to describe it. I just think it's the ultimate post 9/11 film.

i want to see this.

is this out in the UK yet?

 They really panned this on Newsnight Review and yet everybody I've heard talk about it seems to love it! Think I may give it a go...

Yep!

I'd really reccomend anyone to go see it. It's so so different to every other film that's out atm and just abotu every single from from the genre of monster movies.

I REALLY want to see this. A few of my friends said it was great but the "monster" was disappointing?
Oh this didn't really appeal until I read this thread. It seems to be the sort of modern film you have to see. I might persuade my friends to pop down to the cinema with me :heehee:

Cloverfield is AWESOME! Im definately reserving my copy on DVD!

The Monster is very original and not a copy off of Aliens or Predator or Godzilla or anything!

Oh and apparently they are in talks about a sequel! Which HOPEFULLY we will find out Why & How the monster was there!

Depends what you thought the monster would look like/act. It wasn't what I expected it to look like (or act like). I don't want to gove too much away about the monster though as you'll enjoy the film loads more if you don't know what it is.

There's is going to be a sequel, it's been confirmed now.

I thought during the film there was more than one big main monster and I think this confirms it.

I saw this today - and I thought it was AMAZING! Best film I have seen for a long time.

I saw it yesterday and I did really enjoy it, I don't think I've seen a film like that before and the ending wasn't at all predictable. It was also fairly short so it didn't drag on or anything.

I was however feeling uncomfortably bloated throughout the entire film and it wasn't enough to take my mind off it. :(

Completely agree - whilst the characters are, on the whole, a depressingly Friends-like bunch of boring yuppie nobodies, the actual feel of the movie and the refusal to give too much away til the very end was great. I did actually feel like I was in the movie - much like Wolf Creek. OK, some of the acting was a little hammy.... but on the whole - Cloverfield is deeply entertaining.

I hope the movie isn't tarnished by tacky sequels and prequels - they're not needed at all - all they do is totally cheapen the original (see Texas Chainsaw, Nightmare on Elm St, Blair Witch etc etc etc)... but a bit of an explanation as to why the attack happened and the aftermath - just a one-off movie - would be fitting.

i saw this yesterday and thought it was really good. the acting was pretty good and it didn't fill in all of the blanks for us which adds to the realism more.

really good film.

I saw this, it's good, but it's not as good as the similarly-themed "Right At Your Door" IMO, which dealt with the aftermath of a chemical attack on a major city... I felt the sense of paranoia and post-9/11 anxieties were more effectively explored in that film, and that the scripting and acting was just a bit more spot on, edgy and sharp than "Cloverfield" (probably because the scenario of a chemical attack is a lot more plausible than a dinosaur rising from the deep.. ).. But, in saying that, "Cloverfield" is still a very, very good way to spend 90 minutes, respect to J J Abrahms, it's a damn sight better than any bloated, pompous sh!te the likes of Michael Bay or Roland Emmerich could ever come up with...

I agree with pretty much everything said above - I loved the movie, as intense as it was, I barely moved during the whole thing.

Did anyone else see it in a cinema which was deathly silent at the end?! I'd never ever seen a film end and nothing happened in the cinema for about 30 seconds after.
