Well,

just a few little things that I've noticed.

'Headlines' currently sits at number 20 (as of Friday) on download sales.

Personally, I think that this is quite good considering there hasn't been much promo, just the music video. I love the track btw :D

but, i remember that 2 years ago, when Liberty X released 'A Night To Remember/Everybody Dance' for Children In Need, the midweeks had the single out of the Top 10 all week long.

BUT,

after they performed the single on the live telethon, the single jumped up to number 6 on the Sunday. Now, this must have down to a huge surge in Saturday's sales (the best day of the week for single sales).

I reckon we can expect the single to jump into the Top 10 by Sunday, Top 5 even! I think the Girls' first performance as a quintet will be a must-see!

BUT,

will 'Headlines' ever make it to number 1??????

Kylie releases the physical edition of '2 Hearts' on Monday, her fans are likely to buy this in their thousands! I know I will be. Plus, tonight's 'The Kylie Show' follows the live result of 'The X Factor', so '2 Hearts' can expect a good chart position next Sunday (18th).

I think Kylie would have had a good chance at number 1 next weekend as Leona Lewis' album is out, surely this will slow down sales of 'Bleeding Love'.

BUT,

I know Leona Lewis will reach number 1 in the album chart with the Spices at number 2 with their Greatest Hits collection, but sales for these 2 albums will be huge.

Will the Spice Girls get a chance at number 1 in the weeks coming up to Christmas?

also,

with Headlines included on the Greatest Hits album, could we expect the single to be virtually ignored. Or could it be number 1 on Sunday 25th November, following a physical relese.

I really hope so, I want Headlines to be their 10th UK Number 1 hit, if only 'Stop' had got to number 1

Discuss!

Well considering the comeback has been hyped for months and months just in the top 20 is a bit poor tbh.

I think they will rise after being on CIN on Friday. Should see them go to about #3 or #4. The GH being out should also help as theiur battle with Leona will be well publicised especially by The Sun.

I don't think the GH will be #1 next week but in the weeks leading up to Christmas I think it will as it strikes me as the type of album people would choose as an stockinh filler and the only biggish albums left of the year are Kylie, Shayne and GA [forgive me if I forgo anyone :P]

I think though Kylie will go to #2 on the singles chart next week behind Leona but the Spices will come out on top on the week their physical is released. I was expecting it to finish top 5 in the year but I'm really not sure now tbh, CIN singles haven't done a lot the past two years but hopefully the fact it's the SG performing together all 5 for the first time in 9 years it'll be big.

WOw that's a lot of type for me :o :(

I got the funny feeling Kylie will lose out to Leona next week, and Leona will do the double.

Spice Girls will probably hit #1 the week after.

2 Hearts won't be a No.1

I'm not even convinced that Spice Girls will be now :o

People rave about how it will because its a children in need single but 4 of the last 5 have missed No.1

2002: Will Young-Don't Let Me Down/You & I (#2)

2003: Shane Richie-I'm Your Man (#2)

2004: Girls Aloud-I'll Stand By You (#1)

2005: Liberty X-A Night To Remember (#6)

2006: Emma Bunton-Downtown (#3)

and the last 4 have been covers so at least the Spice Girls song is original, much like the sublime S Club 7 CIN singles in 2000 and 2001

2003: Shane Richie-I'm Your Man (#2)

I have that on single.

Radio 1 unimpressed by Spice Girls track

The Spice Girls' comeback track 'Headlines' has been branded "not strong enough" by Radio 1's playlist team.

Despite the hype surrounding the girls' forthcoming world tour, their new song is receiving just one play per day on the station after bosses decided to give it C-list status.

Radio 1's Head of Music, George Ergatoudis, told The Mirror: "The opinion of the Radio 1 playlist team is that the song isn't strong enough.

"Clearly there's a huge number of Spice Girls fans out there - look at the tickets they have sold. But 'Headlines' is very disappointing. The song simply isn't strong enough.. it would have been a B-side in their heyday."

'Headlines' became available for download last weekend and it is expected to debut at number twenty in the UK singles chart after selling just over 4,900 copies.

A source close to the Spice Girls admitted: "They wanted it to be a surefire No.1 on downloads alone but it has failed to connect with the public."

Are Radio 1 right not to play 'Headlines' more?

I think the Spice Girls will knock leona off the top, I have a feeling it will be a CIN singles that does go all the way. I doubt now that Kylie will be #1 though.

I disagree, I think Leona will hold off both.

Whilst Kylie's ITV Special tonight will give it a boost & possibly push it to #2 next week. It is an underwhelming comeback single.

The same can be said for the Spice Girls who sound like they've just recycled one of their classic ballads (Viva Forever, 2 Become 1) only with a tune & melody nowhere near as strong. According to the Daily Mirror their single had been downloaded just 4,907 times in 4 days. For an eagerly awaited single (currently) unavailable on any album that is rubbish in anyone's language. Again I now think they will do well to make the Top 2!

If you'd have asked me last week I would have confidently predicted by this Saturday that both Kylie & the Spice Girls would have been comfortably in the Top3 on I-Tunes. The fact that they are only at #6 & #12 respectively tells it's own story.

It's awful, they're exactly right when they say in their heydey it would've been a b-side and nothing more. I feel sorry for the girls actually, a few weeks ago a download #1 looked certain!

I think Radio 1 are right. And like you ... I have a bit of sympathy for the girls in this. But surely in their hearts they must have known that the song really just isn't that good (or somebody should have told them it wasn't before they committed to it). They should have waited a bit longer to come up with something better - which I'm sure they could have.

It will still get to number one though (maybe later rather than sooner but a result all the same). They'll have the last laugh.

I expected them to come back with something better especially when its such a high lighted come back.take that came back with a belter of a tune and i was sure the spice girls would to,its a nice song but its forgettable

I have just merged two Spice Girls topics. Please can we keep all of this in one place, so things don't look like a Spice Girls forum.

Thanking you.

Sorry :( ^_^

Shameless! You're back! I've missed you!

I honestly thought the spices would come back with a killer too! I had thought that with the time they've had and the money put into their comeback/reunion - they'd just smash back like they'd never left. Maybe they should have let someone else write the song for them.

So whether its for charity or not - I'll skip the single and just buy the GH album now as a pressie for my fella ... because ... grudgingly I have to admit that I do like a lot of their back-catalogue (I must be one of the few people on this forum too ... who actually likes Stop!)

'Headlines' has grown on me now...R1 think it ain't strong enough? Just because it doesn't sound like Arctic Monkeys/Razorlight/Hoosiers/insert other pointless sh*tty indie band.

It'll get to #01 next week but the album won't cos of Leona...the album'll probably reach #01 in mid-December.

Number 12 on iTunes after 5 days is absolutely appaling, especially when you consider some of the stuff that's ahead of it. Considering their reunion was huge news and the comeback seemed to be about the most anticipated thing since 'X & Y' over two years ago it really is underperforming quite a lot. I thought an 'Umbrella' type climb up iTunes and the mids was inevitable but to be stuck at #12 behind a compltely average new band who's songs been out about 6 weeks and they have an album out is embarassing. It'll certainly go to atleast #2 I'd have thought on the back of CIN but it wouldn't surprise me if it took fairly large tumbles after that.

I like the song.

Video is boring as hell.

i love headlines,

we need 2 stop being all credible bout the music,

if ppl like it thn they like it,

the spice girls must be doing sumthing right with a completely sold out world tour,

its pop music, its harmless,

it will be number 1

It's absolutely awful, an insult to their back catalogue which included some real pop classics.

I pray to god it doesn't go to #1. In fact I pray to god that anyone who's going to buy it just for CIN decide to actually donate the money to CIN instead.
