Ashton Goes Wild For Tori and Gabriella

Gabriella Cilmi's sell-out concert in the Sugatorium in Ashton tonight with special guest Tori Amos was a huge success. The crowd went wild as both singers sang a selection of their hits, as well as a few duets.

One very well-recieved surprise was the encore from the two performers. Fans were left confused when the concert ended without either of the two singers having performed their entries from BJSC11, however they were in for a treat when they returned to the stage to sing each other's songs!

Tori Amos and her piano treated the audience to a jazzy rendition of "Don't Want To Go To Bed Now" while Gabriella put in a superb vocal performance of "Silent All These Years."

"It was a risky decision," Tori Amos commented after the show, "but the crowd seemed to go for it which is cool."

The pair closed the show with a rendition of "Hole In The Head," and by encouraging the audience to tune in to the final of the contest this Sunday.

Gabriella Cilmi will perform a few more concerts in her home country this week while Tori Amos undertakes more concerts around the Buzzjack world, starting tomorrow with newcomers Kellyana Kingdom.

Gabriella and Tori light-up Ashton

Last nights sold out performance by Gabriella Cilmi and Tori Amos has left Ashton's capital city in a party mood. The concert got under way on time an achievement by the crew who had over 420,000 people to seat in just one hour. First on stage was Red Blooded Women, Ashton's representatives for BJSCXII (14th in BJSCVII). They performed four songs (Colour Me Dirty, Synthesiser, You Made Your Bed and 4 2nite) and warmed the crowd up for the main event.

Gabriella entered from stage right, Tori took the left and they appeared on stage behind a cloud of smoke singing Cry Me A River, the Justin Timberlake song ever present in Gabriella's sets. After performing a series of their hits and album tracks along with duets of Real Girl, About You Now and I Don't Know. In addition to Cry Me A River Gabriella covered Whole Lotta Love, the Led Zeppelin track which inspired her many years ago.

A shock twist came at the end of the night when the singers re-appeared for their encore after leaving the stage after Sweet About Me. Tori, having disappeared first, re-appeared the perform a jazzy rendition of Gabriella's BJSCXI entry Don't Wanna Go To Bed Now, and Gabriella came on at the end to sing along with the last chorus and proceeded to launch into a soulful performance of Silent All These Years. The girls then collaborated on Hole In The Head, one of Ashton's biggest selling singles and former entry.

Gabriella told us after the show that "It was definitely a risk not singing our own entries, but it's one we decided to take just 5minutes before the concert began! The crowd were amazing, as usual. I always love performing in Ashton the crowd are really enthusiastic, music is their passion. It's one of the reasons i signed up for a third contest with Ashton in the future. Music is the heart and soul of this huge country and it's incredible, it really shows at all the gigs i have performed here. Backstage at BJSC you always know who has performed in Ashton! Mainly because they always come and ask me if i get the same amazing reaction they got! LOL!! Hole In The Head really got the crowd on their feet and jumping like madmen! Even after a 150minute gig! I will be performing that again tonight i think!"

Gabriella confirmed the rumour about her contract when we spoke to her (in bold above), telling us she had signed on for a third contest with Ashton but she didn't know when it would be

Gabriella is set to perform in New England Harbour tonight 1,244miles North of Morpeth Cove. Tori Amos is continuing her tour of Buzzjack and stops in Kellyana Kingdom.

Ashton confirms BJSCXII

The ASC today confirmed that Lily Allen would once again represent Ashton in their quest for their maiden victory with new song "Everyone's At It".

Lily had this to say: "I really can't wait to be back in Ashton, it's such a lovely country and i really enjoyed BJSCVI. Although i won with Nonsuch, i really would like to bring victory to Ashton for the first time"

Our sources within the ASC say that this could be their best chance at victory since Lily Allen came second in BJSCVI with I Don't Know, widely regarded as Ashton's finest BJSC moment, just ahead of Red Blooded Women making it to 14th.

Maybe sending her cover of "Don't Get Me Wrong" to BJSCXI wouldn't have been so cheap after all. I would be surprised if this didn't at least finish in the top 3, given Lily's 'previous form'.
  • Author

i wouldn't say it was cheap, given that the song has just leaked and it's not due out until January.

If anything it would be less cheap than So What.

Aaron, Don't Get Me Wrong wouldn't have been cheap in the slightest

Yeahhh, but I mean it's still the new single from her album. I'm not saying So What was any less cheap. ;o Plus it's kinda cheap considering Lily has already been entered twice and been #1 and #2.

I dunnozz just my opinion.

  • Author

:kink: i did enter her one of those times. :heehee:

She's been my highest finisher to date and i'm aiming to go one place higher, so i may as well start with what i know best before i raid myspace

Aaron, Don't Get Me Wrong wouldn't have been cheap in the slightest

The song wouldn't have been, no, but I was thinking that Lily in general might be. As Ben said, she's already finished 1st and 2nd in her two entries to the contest which is why I picked Robyn over Lily in the end.

Does where an artist finished make them cheap?

I'm not sure Margaret Berger would be cheap even though she has won. IMO just because an artist has won once doesn't necessarily mean they'll do it again.

I dunnoz. ;o For me personally it does, but again it's all up to what everyone thinks. The whole point of BJSC is to get people into music they might not normally listen to, and Lily's already been used twice, so most people who may have not really listened to her before probably do now. ;o

ALL OF THIS BEING SAID,

It'll get points from me, as I just vote on which songs I like best plain and simple, and I lofffff Everyone's At It.

(though you may suffer some backlash a la Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl finishing first and Self Inflicted doing poorly)

  • Author

I'm not entirely sure Katy suffered a back lash as i seem to recall Lady GaGa doing quite well both times.

I think Self Inflicted just isn't as good a song as IKAG. Which quite frankly is one of the best songs this contest has introduced me to.

Torchwood Who?

In a sensational interview with the Ashton Times Amelle Berrabah revealed that she didn't know who Torchwood were.

When we asked her about the selection status of the mighty Sugababes(and Boo2) with the country. She replied "Isn't Torchwood a $h!tty TV program? Like a crapper Dr Who? I had no idea it was a country!!!" After the hysterics passed Amelle continued "As you can probably tell neither the Sugababes or Boo2 will be competing for Torchwood."

Amelle went on to tell us "Anyway, regardless of who they are why would we compete for someone who isn't Ashton? They gave us our BJSC break in the first contest and we've remained loyal ever since. Plus Samiya is still ill. It realy was a nasty bout of C.Diff she got, it's reckoned she'll be better by BJSCXIII as were supposed to compete for Ashton then. We were so gutted that we couldn't go to the Kingdom of Shadow as Boo2. I wondered why Phil called a meeting of the ASC today! The girls all feel the same as i do towards Ashton. Total gratitude. They gave us a unique chance to help select the entries for one of Buzzjack's old guard and in return we signed up for as long as Ashton is competing in BJSC."

We wondered if we could get any hints on future entries? "I can't tell you that!! Shreiks Amelle, "I can however tell you all is not what it seems, and nothing is set in stone. Plus the Babes will be back soon!!!"

In other more serious news,

After Torchwood started to circulate rumours of Boo2/Sugababes a poll appeared on the Ashtonise Government website (www.Ashton.gment.an) asking browsers if they would support a war against Torchwood.

A mammoth 100% have so far voted yes. The poll has attracted 100million individual hits and has had 74.3million comments left. Many saying that they would sign up for the Military to support the war.

Shock Change!

In a shock change, the ASC has announced that Lily Allen will no longer be competing for Ashton. Throwing away what would have been a surefire top 5 finish.

The risky move has allowed Red Blooded Women to once more represent the country, this time with "You Made Your Bed".

The band are said to be elated at the chance to represent the mighty Ashton once again. The band will begin a promotional tour after TBO:BJSCI and is set to take in more countries than Gabriella Cilmi's Month long tour.

In other news, Senior officials at the Ashtonise govermnent had told Torchwood to "Get Fucked".

Ashton Makes History

As if being the host of the very first 'The Best Of BJSC' contest, Ashton became the first Host country not to have their entry make the final as both Lily Allen and the Sugababes crashed out of Semi Final 1. Leaving Ashton with no finalists.

There is a ray of hope however, as the Sugababes make it through to the final of the rejects competition with Ashton's only non-qualifier, Never Gonna Dance Again.

Ojnoj Update:

Gavin Mikhail has just performed to thousands of BJSC fans as he came to Ashton to perform. He was greeted by cheers, applause & erm... knickers. As some of the females on the front row were just a bit too happy to see him. He came onto the stage with his piano and stormed straight into former Ojnoj representing song, "Fight the Sky" before thanking the fans for coming to see him and performing a medley of Ashtonese BJSC classics. He performed a medley of, Dragonette's "True Believer", "Hole in the Head" & "Never gonna Dance Again" by the Sugababes. As the crowd were singing along and were warmed up, he hit them hard, with his BJSC entry "Brave" they were waving their arms in the air, they were using their phones as torches and waving them. It was a truly special moment.

S&M Tour ends in Ashton

Margaret Berger and Sophie Ellis-Bextor's groundbreaking world tour came to an end last night as they performed in Ashton, Best of BJSC hosts, for their final show. The tour has taken them to over ten different nations, performing nearly forty songs between them in front of millions of people but what better place to end than in the great City of Morpeth Cove in the Republic of Ashton - a vast nation which, despite conflict in the past, has remained one of the great Kingdom's greatest musical allies with Shadowans awarding Ashton points in almost every contest in which they have taken part including twice for Gabriella Cilmi! The admiration for Ashton felt by the Kingdom of Shadow was shown at the very start of the evenings concert as Margaret Berger dedicated her first song 'Have you Never Ever (Felt A Love Like This Before)?' to the Ashtonise peoples that had gathered around the stage in Morpeth Cove. Sophie Ellis-Bextor was next up on stage with her hit single 'Catch You', both Sophie and Margaret went down to a local Ashtonise Go-Kart circuit earlier in the day to show another huge similarity between Ashton and the Kingdom of Shadow - Both are huge fans of motorsport. Margaret's second performance was the hugely successful 'Samantha'. Sophie's next song is her entry into the very first 'Rejects' contest and will be competing against Ashton's very own entry from the Sugababes. The Sugababes are obviously hugely celebreated in the Republic which is one of the reasons for the controversial move by the Great Kingdom to enter Mutya Buena into BJSC VIII, despite this Ashton still awarded their heroin 8 points in the contest and as a sign of thanks for this gesture, Mutya Buena was invited to perform 'Strung Out'. Margaret berger's final song of the tour remains the Kingdom's only top ten finish in the contest - 'Will You Remember Me Tomorrow?'. The final performance of the tour however was left to Sophie Ellis-Bextor who refelected the entire crews thoughts with 'Take Me Home'. Our thanks to all the nations which have played hosts to this amazing tour and we wish you all the best in this weekends two contests!
