To be honest, it's nowt special. Sure, she's got a decent enough voice and everything, but she's trying too hard to emulate the clipped, vernacular vocal stylings of Martina Topley Bird (Tricky's main collaborator) or Kelli (ex-Sneaker Pimps vocalist....)

Lily has a pop at pop

 

Acid-tongued rising star Lily Allen has attacked manufactured bands like Steps and S Club 7, accusing them of giving pop music a bad name.

 

The singer reckons the word "pop" has been diluted by one-dimensional chart acts in recent years and also accused the current crop of female stars of failing to connect with the youth of today.

 

She said: "Pop should be popular, but exciting and interesting, like T.Rex and The Clash.

 

"Steps and S Club 7 shouldn't have been called pop - they should have been called s***."

 

She added: "A lot of female artists, and male ones for that matter, are boring singers who don't say anything. Certainly not to my generation."

 

Allen has confirmed her debut album 'Alright, Still' we be released on July 17, preceded by her new single 'Smile' on July 3.

So ......... the England result eh? Ronaldo is a dirty dirty bast*rd , agreed? I still can't figure out whether Rooney got sent off for the stamp or for the push , I know he shouldn't have reacted but whatever . Ronaldo is pure evil , did you see the winking and him winding up Rooney earlier on in the game . I bet the press are gonna use Rooney as the scapegoat , but I reckon we should go after Ronaldo .

Thank god Sven's reign is over though , England have been $h!t in this tournament sayin that I was proud of them from the second half of todays game . I think football reflects the state of a country at that time , and to be honest I'm with Germany from here on . Germany have managed to shake their stereotype of being a square uncultured and over efficient society and have embraced a 21st century way of living , I was in Germany last week , they have a good health service great oppertunities for young people and seem to be a country I would be proud to be a part of and I think there football reflects that . England on the other hand play in a way that reflect our society

money minded , confused , lacking control and direction and most of all bored . Beckhams $h!t . I hope he never plays for England again , the FA only play him for fear of losing shirt sales , and I'm ashamed of us for those reasons . Svens walking away from todays match with 5 odd million quid , he doesn't give a $h!t .

I read an interview with her today where she talks about how hard her life was and getting to where she is now and part of that was her families money situation where the poor unfortunate had to have money for three kids' school fees :( :rolleyes:

The saddest thing about her is for all her 'chav'/street pretensions, her father Keith Allen is a comedian who made that not exactly flattering documentry about Michael Carroll: King Of The Chavs and her mother Allison Owen is a film producer.

 

I agree she does have a mediocre voice though. She isn't anything special given all the hype. She's just another 'gobby cow' who slags everyone off like Charlotte Church and Amy Winehouse, although at least they were both pretty good vocally.

i dont think that she has to have a good voice, or indeed needs to have been around very long in order to qualify having an opinion! a-hem :)

I'll be honest and say that I like 'Smile' in itself BUT her peformance on TOTP was awful, if there's anything worse than miming its trying delibratly hard to look as if your not i.e. pre-recording a "live" version of a song and then miming to it as Allen has done on 3 occasions i've seen now and the instrumental on TOTP was clearly a backing track. She also lacks any stage presense.

 

Its her dad and his money that have pushed her career, the whole family likes smarmy imo. Nice music but unpleasent persona dn background :)

I watched her on TOTP and felt like I was a victim of a very clever con trick.

It's all very artful & subtle, from the simple lyrics, little girl vocals, coy glances to one side and the trainers with 50's style dresses that look to become her trademark. A very good bit of manufacturing, the equal to anything that's gone before with 'not what you know, but who you know' playing a major part by the looks of it.

 

The real pity though is, Lily is grabbing all the limelight this week when a real find, someone with real talent is being virtually ignored. What a shame, Paulo Nutini, is likely along with James Morrison, to be two of the best male vocalists to hit the scene in the last couple of years. ;)
