- The girls should play Leeds and Liverpool for once! Those two cities are very patriotic and community-based and there is genuine love for each Mel in their respective home towns. A real 'home coming' would be wonderful to see for them, I think.

Yes yes yes yes YESSS! I’ve always thought it was a crying shame that they never did Leeds (didn’t know they hadn’t done Liverpool either) when both girls have always been very vocal about being from those places. There was lots of rumours that they were going to do some dates at Elland Road stadium in 2007 and I am sure there were plans as my friend worked for the stadium and said that there had been enquiries from their team re booking it. Shame they didn’t do it in the 2019 tour or Roundhay Park that is an iconic place to play in Leeds we’ve had Queen, Madonna, Rolling Stones, Robbie, Ed Sheehan, Michael Jackson, U2, Genesis, Bruce Springsteen and (ahem Gary Glitter  ). Only the biggest can do it as it’s a big place to fill would be so iconic if the girls did it!

I also agree re her changing her team has done wonders for her. She is so much more visible everywhere and doing all sorts really showing off her versatility as an artist at the minute. Wish she could get a feature on some big groups record and chart again on the singles chart that would be the cherry on top! If she was really clever she could then tie it in with a GH release and feature it on her record too.

Even another record with someone like Bryan Adam’s who doesn’t chart either singles wise would garner quite a bit of interest and could be great to promote a GH, performing the new song and WYG on all the shows and causally mentioning it’s featured on Bryan’s new album AND both are on Melanie’s greatest hits collection OUT NOW!

She is indeed everywhere at the moment and seems to be having to time of her live! It's lovely to see. I especially always appreciate her taking part in LGBT+ related events, she is and has always been a true ally. These days every artist tries to be an ally, but I feel Melanie (just like Jade) is really putting in the effort, always showing up and not just talking about gay rights, but, even more important, supporting trans and non binary rights.

OMG I never heard of Roundhay Park before, that's massive!! Some acts have gone up to 120,000 people in a single show, that's f***ing wild!!

So yes, they should absolutely do it! That would be almost double the amount of people at Wembley and they would make a mint!!

Now feels like the right time for a Greatest Hits and use her existing exposure to promote it.

My brother in Gay Christ, Melanie C hasnt had a 'hit' since the year 2000... The best thing she can do it a 'The Ultimate Collection' type of affair, but even then most people only know Never Be The Same Again, I Turn To You and When You're Gone, so it hardly screams demand for a Greatest Hits....

Who I Am and Blame it On Me did ok for her usual standards but they are not hits in the slightest apart from a very small fanbase and a few extra gays. It would make sense for her to do a sort of collection release around the book launch too. But then again, it would just go against Spiceworld25 releases....

I suggest you check what the definition of a hit is. :kink:

Please, enlighten me then

In the United States and the United Kingdom, a single is usually considered a hit when it reaches the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 or the top 75 of the UK Singles Chart and stays there for at least one week. The Guinness Book of British Hit Singles has used this definition since the 1970s. Some argue that reaching at least the top 100—since the Official Charts Company increased the chart size on their website on 23 June 2007—lets a single be considered a hit due to the increasing singles market after chart rules included download singles. In most cases, the amount of weeks spent on either music chart may also play a big part in its relevance as a 'hit,' regardless of its peak chart position.

A hit single is variously called a number one hit, a top 5 hit, a top 10 hit, a top 20 hit or a top 40 hit, depending on its peak position. In the UK (where radio play is not included in the official charts), this does not completely reflect the song's popularity—as the weekly chart position is based solely on direct comparison with concurrent sales of other singles. It is, therefore, not uncommon that a single fails to chart, but has actually sold more copies than other singles regarded as "hits" based on their higher chart placement in a period of low sales. (This is also possible in the United States, or anywhere, with slow but steady sellers; a number of minor hits, especially those that are popular in specific genre, have earned gold certifications despite relatively poor pop chart performances.)

Artists with far less top 40 singles have released greatest hits so i think Mel could easily do it, she has 6 top 10 hits, 11 top 40's and a total of 14 singles that made the top 100.

And let's not forget the European-only hits, such as First Day of My Life, The Moment You Believe and Rock Me.

It only takes 1 or 2 hits to sell a GH. If Dead or alive, Bonnie Tyler, Belinda Carlisle and countless others can release several Mel could certainly release one. She had three very well know hits for people to see on it then a handful of top 40 hits to add to it some which people may recognise like Northern star, loving you and I know him so well if she there that on there. Then there are the international #1s if she wanted to tag them on and put it on a sticker…

I think it would be her biggest seller since BI possibly Reason especially if she would partner with Virgin to do it as they could get her some better slots on tv perhaps an advert. She could do all the day time shoes etc bringing out NBTSA, ITTY and WYG to make people be like “ah yeah love that song.”

Belinda Carlisle had several big hits but I understand the point you are making as she has several Greatest Hits available and probably the same amount of hit singles as Mel.

If partnered with Virgin Mel could benefit greatly.

If Mel got TV performances to perform the bigger hits and possibly a medley and with further promotional activities, signings and a few different formats the album would achieve Top 10 status and attract some ongoing sales thereafter, more so than her recent studio albums.

I'd love her to have a Greatest Hits or Singles Collection or whatever it should be called! I doubt that her 2nd through to 7th albums will all be pressed on vinyl (if any at all) so it would be nice to have a GH vinyl that brought together a lot of her singles.

Given how active she is at the moment, I agree that this year would have been a great time to release one. It could have coincided with her book. What better time to release a retrospective album than alongside an autobiography?

She said many times GH doesn't work nowadays but even Robbie Williams is ready to put out another one.

I think the only problem is the different labels.

The different labels are definitely the problem.

Thanks for all your comments. I have changed my take a bit, but I still think that any collection shouldnt be called a GHs, but instead a collection of some sort. Like, Best Off or The Ultimate Collection. Calling it 'Greatest Hits' will just look a bit 'is it though' to the general public....

She could sell out a tour with bigger venues with a best of collection and tour !!

I am bored of her always playing shepherd’s bush!

The different labels are definitely the problem.

Don't think anyone really pays any attention to the title Greatest Hits, Singles Collection, Best Of etc etc etc it's all the same thing really, and unless you're someone like Madonna or Michael Jackson, who genuinely have had hits they can just leave off, you are going to include pretty much everything anyway.
