Most of us (with me) think that Duffy is the new British star that definitely deserves the best place in show-business space but could it be that 'Mercy' is just one of lucky chances that helps the artist only to become famous for the period of popularity of the song like it happened with Robyn about 10 years ago!??

But #1 only on downloads didn't happen with Robyn! :o

So what do you think about this sudden popularity of Duffy?

I first heard 'Mercy' on January 24th, & knew it was going

to be a Top 3 UK Hit, after just one listen.

Duffy's 'Rockferry' Album is No.1 at Amazon.uk. She is

going to be a huge Star.

I have got the Rockferry album

I first saw her live on Jules Holland's Hootenanny on New Year's eve. I recorded it.

When she sang her version of the old Cat Stevens/P.P. Arnold classic First Cut Is The Deepest, the hairs on the back of my neck stood up

followed by her duet with the legendary US 60s/70s soul singer Eddie Floyd

Here it is:

She's sure got soul. I have also got tickets for the Manchester leg of her tour in May.

She is so much better than Adele, who beat her in Sound of 2008, and she's off to a promising start in proving that.

I feel a bit sorry for Adele. Even before she picks up her Brit on Wednesday, for best newcomer or something, she's already been overtaken by Duffy.

Adele has a good voice, but Duffy's got the material and I think this time next year, she'll be picking up best female at the Brits.

I think most people were aware of Duffy from that BBC Sound of 2008 poll. There's no denying it's a great song, but I'm not sure she would have been playlisted so fast at radio if it wasn't for that list.

Likewise with Adele, the song was ok, but would radio have jumped all over the track if she hadn't topped that list and won that Brit.

Didn't the same thing happen to Mika last year when he topped the BBC Sound of 2007 poll - he went straight to No 1.

It's also a bit of curiosity on the part of the public as well - wanting to hear what all the hype is with these artists.

Yeah i totally agree with you! some people i suppose (and me) knew she exists only after a plenty of discussions about her!

i started to notice that people prefer to know about new artists and listen to them more...

i watched that, and thought she had a good voice

Don't get me started on that new Brit Award. The Brits are to commemorate the best of last year. Adele will have her time next year. That new award just screams 'Look we want you to buy Adele this year cos she will get all the awards next year!'

She put in evidence ad overworked style following Amy Winehouse successful groove....remember this intro?

Definitely! I think she has bags more talent than overhyped artists such as Lily Allen, Kate Nash, Adele etc who won't last the distance.

She really has something about her, I hope she can have some longevity.

I think she has a GREAT voice and she seems like a really nice person too! :)

I prefer her over Adele and Kate Nash, not sure if I prefer her over Amy Winehouse vocally...

I love her song Mercy! I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the album. I have a feeling that she won't have anymore #1 hits, but time will tell... ^_^

Completely agree, she has bags of talent and has the material, unlike the others you mentioned, duffy, leona, and amy will last the distance, the others are either novelty or over hyped.

i hope she becomes a 1 hit wonder.......just kidding

i guees we;ll see if people still care about her years from now i think its too early to say how long she'll last.

I think she could do a KT Tunsall and peak to early and then just flop!

Thats what I think aswell actually.

I hope it doesnt happen.. but I can see it happening. I think her first album will be huge, but after that...

I think she could do a KT Tunstall and peak to early and then just flop!

True.

But you could say that about 75% of new artists now-a-days.

Here's one of the best tracks on her new album

In a word brilliant - It deserves to be her next single

Distant Dreamer

Go have have a #1 album gal!
