February 24, 200817 yr I don't understand this either. Can I ask a couple of questions (sorry, these are probably really thick questions) - how is Leona's double-A side Better In Time (BIT) / Footprints In The Sand (FITS)treated in terms of what counts towards what? For example, its listed at #74 as both BIT/FITS - yet all that's available so far is the album cut of BIT. The single remix (which will appear on the physical release) of BIT isn't due out until 9th March digitally and 10th March on the Physical Release. So does the album cut count towards the position of the double A side, or will the album cut be listed separately? And do any digital sales of FITS count towards the chart placing of BIT/FITS or will this be listed separately?

February 24, 200817 yr All versions of any song count to one entry. Whether it's the radio edit, album edit, rent-a-rapper remix or karaoke version. Donwloads of only one song count to a physical release. When the physical is released downloads of one (I assume BIT) will be added to the physical whilst downloads of the other (FITS) will give it its own position. I have no idea why she's releasing a AA, any advantage it had has been almost wiped off with the introduction of downloads.

February 24, 200817 yr i don't understand how they're being combined on downloads alone though. i realize that only one of the two double a-side tracks will be counted with the physical sales, but so far neither has a physical component - they're both just standalone download tracks. i don't think i've ever seen two songs have their downloads combined as a double a-side. how does this fit in with new download rules?

It's unlikely that sales of the 2 songs have been combined. They probably listed it as "Better in Time/Footprints in the Sand" in the singles chart because it's a double A-Sided single. "Better in Time" is currently at No 59 on iTunes, where as "Footprints in the Sand" isn't in the iTunes Top 120, so it's "Better in Time" that's at No 74 in the singles chart. When sales of "Footprints in the Sand" pick up, it will appear in the chart as a separate entry.
February 25, 200817 yr This isnt doing as well as i thought it would actually. I'd say it's doing alright, the video hasn't debuted has it? She hasn't really promoted it either. These are just downloads of the album version. It's not doing as well as 'Can't Speak French' is, but it's not doing badly, yet.
February 25, 200817 yr It has no video and is only just starting to get big radio airplay so I'd say it's doing pretty well.
February 25, 200817 yr I don't think anybody other than die hard fans or people who go on internet forums would even know yet it's her next single? I would expect a top 5 from it eventually anyway but nothing massive. Far too many people have the album.
February 25, 200817 yr The video for BIT hasn't debuted yet and if its anything like what they did with Bleeding Love, we won't see it until a week before release (i.e. this Sunday / Monday). Its sold primarily (or probably fully) on the back of radio airplay, which is now starting to get bigger, she's moved 180-27-19 as of Sunday. FITS is getting next to zero radio play at the moment and the video for FITS is probably still in the process of being finalised as she's jsut back from Africa now I think.
February 25, 200817 yr Oh it thought the video was out. Why does she seem to release videos so close to the release date? The songs are a bit bland compared to bleeding love.

How has it happened?as the entry is already showing as a double A side it means the label have already asked the chart compilers to link sales of the album download "Better In Time" to the physical single release. Had they not, the entry would just be the one title. The downside to this is, if for any reason Footprints In The Sand suddenly became the more popular song then it can't have sales of any physical single or digital bundle added to it's download sales - they will all be linked to Better In Time and FITS will only be able to chart on individual download sales.
February 25, 200817 yr With BIT getting all the airplay (I am starting to think they didn't even sent FITS to radio), I doubt that FITS will become the most popular.
