Welsh female soul singer Duffy has clocked up a second week at the top of the chart with her 60s influenced second single Mercy. Garage act H ‘Two’ O move from No.7 to No.2 with What’s It Gonna Be.

Duffy’s debut album Rockferry is out a week on Monday and is a practically guaranteed chart topper while Mercy gets its physical release on Monday and will undoubtedly get a third week at the top of the chart this time next week. Coming up close to Duffy is H ‘Two’ O’s bassline anthem What’s It Gonna Be. The second single to be released on the Hard2Beat label, after the year’s biggest seller from Basshunter, the added physical impetus has given the single a huge push from No.7 to No.2 this week. The act H ‘Two’ O are two British producers from the northern club scene while Platnum are the group that sing on the track. The track is also a hit in Malta where it has charted at No.4 this week.

Nickelback slide a place with Rockstar this week to No.3 after spending a couple of weeks in second place. It looks as if any chance that this had of making No.1 have all but vanished with Duffy’s almighty lead over her competition but this single should never be written off and has to date sold over quarter of a million copies in the UK. Swedish DJ Basshunter’s former No.1 single Now You’re Gone slides another place to No.4 this week on its 8th week on the chart and its 7th in the top five. It also makes Hard2Beat the most successful record label in the top five this week with two entries.

Kylie Minogue has been climbing the chart with Wow at a snails pace over the last couple of months since she performed the track on the final of X Factor. However the eagerly anticipated physical release coupled with a Brit Awards performance and some rather special b-sides helps the track up to No.5 this week. The song has moved like this in last few weeks: 32-28-43-29-27-26-22-20-18-5 but it is only now that the Best International Female award winner scores her 31st top ten hit to date and her 15th of this decade incredibly.

The winner of the Brits Critics Choice award was new British singer Adele. The nineteen year old singer’s second single Chasing Pavements slides a place to No.6 this week on its 6th week in the top ten. David Jordan moves down three places with Sun Goes Down while Rihanna’s Don’t Stop The Music slides two places to No.8 on its seventh week in the top ten. US rock act OneRepublic score their second UK top ten hit this week after their co-credited duet with Timbaland, Apologize, hit No.3 late last year. Stop & Stare is an epic rock ballad and jumps two places to No.9 from last week’s No.11. The track is yet to be physically released. Kelly Rowland rounds off this week’s top ten with Work, the second single from her second solo album Ms. Kelly which moves down two places on its fifth week in the top ten. The album’s first single, Like This, also peaked at No.4 but spent four weeks in the top ten. This week’s top ten therefore includes four Brits, two Americans, a Canadian, A Barbadian, an Australian and a Swede. How truly international our music tastes are at the moment.

There is plenty of action outside the top ten this week too, most of it Brits related. Indie act One Night Only were not up for any Brits but their single Just For Tonight moves back up a place to No.12 this week. Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse performed their former No.2 single Valerie at the ceremony earlier in the week and as a result the track rebounds from No.22 to No.13 this week. Soulja Boy’s former top three hit Crank That moves back up a place to No.15 this week for no apparent reason while Timbaland’s Apologize jumps back up two places to No.18 this week. Timbaland has two tracks in the top twenty this week, as he has had for numerous occasions in the last year. Scream, the fourth single to be lifted from Shock Value, which features Keri Hilson and Nicole Scherzinger moves up eight places to No.20 this week on its third week in the top 40.

British rave act Utah Saints jump ten places to No.21 with the 2008 remix of Something Good which is expected to be a huge hit when properly released next month. Flo Rida and T-Pain are two US rappers who have been at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for the last nine weeks with Low. The single seems to be on course for similar success over here as it soars from No.40 where it debuted last week to No.22 this week. Taio Cruz is a British rapper and producer who scores his third top 40 hit this week. It is also his biggest which is incredible considering that it has got to No.23 on the strength of one remix being made available on iTunes, boding very well for its impending physical release on March 3rd. Come On Girl briefly features vocals from female singer Luciana who has been on just about everybody’s records in recent years including the Bodyrox singles Yeah Yeah and What Planet U On, Super Mal’s Bigger Than Big and Martijn Ven Telden’s I Wish You Would.

Take That won the Brits for best live act and best British single this week. Shine won the award and as a result re-enters the top 75 at No.73 this week. However, its Rule The World which reaps the biggest rewards as the former No.2 single jumps back up six places to No.24 this week. Mika performed Love Today, Grace Kelly and Standing In The Way Of Control with Beth Ditto at the Brits on Wednesday and won the best breakthrough act award but its Relax Take It Easy which is his highest charting single this week moving back up two places to No.30 this week. Mark Ronson won the best British male award at the ceremony, perhaps a shock winner over Mika, especially considering that Mark is a producer as opposed to a singer. His new single Just, a cover of the Radiohead song, soars to No.31 after its physical release this week. It’s the fourth top 40 hit from Version following Stop Me, Oh My God and Valerie.

Leona Lewis performed Bleeding Love at the Brits and as a result the track jumps back up four places to No.33 this week, though its hard to imagine anyone who could just be hearing the song for the first time after that performance. The song has sold well over 800,000 copies in the UK so far and has topped the charts worldwide, currently looking set to make an impact in America where it has entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No.85 this week. US singer Chris Brown had a major No.2 hit with Run It exactly two years ago but his previous few singles have not had quite the same impact in the UK. However, the ballad With You looks set to reverse this trend and it makes its first appearance in the top 40 at No.35 this week. Yael Naim is a French singer who’s single New Soul is used on the advert for the Mac Airbook laptop. The song has already been a No.1 in France and top ten in America and makes its first appearance in the UK top 40 this week at No.36. The only other new single to make the top 40 this week is 6 Of 1 Thing by UK male soloist Craig David at No.39. His last single Hot Stuff (Let’s Dance) peaked at No.7 late last year.

The album chart this week has some major changes, largely thanks to the Brits. British pop-indie band The Feeling score their first No.1 album in the UK this week as Join With Us tops the chart immediately upon release. Nickelback stay in second place with All The Right Reasons. The Deluxe Edition of Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black has had a price cut in some shops this week and as a result soars to a new peak of No.3 while the chart topping original version moves back to No.12. Mark Ronson and Mika’s albums benefit from their awards success as Mark soars back to No.4 from No.22 last week with Version while Mika’s up four places to No.5 with Life In Cartoon Motion. Michael Jackson’s 25th Anniversary Thriller album slides to No.6 this week while Adele’s 19 is down three places to No.7. Jack Johnson has an almighty tumble from No.1 to No.8 with Sleep Through The Static while former G4 lead singer Jonathan Ansell’s debut album, Tenor At The Movies, debuts at No.9 this week. Rihanna rounds off the top ten, back up a place with the former No.1 album Good Girl Gone Bad.

Duffy releases Mercy physically next week and she will therefore have no trouble hanging on to the No.1 spot for a third time. H ‘Two’ O and Nickelback will continue to fight for positions in the top three while there are other notable new singles due on Monday from Alicia Keys, BWO, Marco Demark, REM and Vampire Weekend while Lenny Kravitz, Colbie Caillat and Katie Melua will be lucky to chart at all. There are notable digital releases from Delinquent feat KCat and Alphabeat whose single Fascination has charted at No.64 this week from a series of remixes but the radio edit is due out on Monday to download.
