My feed must be behind because I can't see Mariah on the chart. I don't know why people would buy it today anyway, as far as it going towards the chart goes. It's pretty much a waste buying it now, it'd be better to wait until next week when it will affect her position most.

It's a waste if you buy music to support your artist in the charts, if you don't really care about that, of course it's not a waste. It's just that releasing a song on a Saturday is a little pointless as the deadline for this weeks chart is at midnight. So it's unlikely that buying it today will help Mariah in the charts as she will have only been available for about 12 hours this week. When I buy music it's usually because I want to help them get a good position in the chart so I would buy when I think it will help them the most in the chart.

It needs to be high on iTunes, it has to gain momentum or it'd be nowhere. You wouldn't believe the amount of people who'll only look at the top of the chart before they buy something...
