also Guru Josh Project-Infinity 2008 :P...it was hit all over europe like it or not and you can still hear it on clubs.

Yeah, but it's UK-based...it only got top three here (a reason I would dispute the inclusion of Agnes :P) and is hardly remembered as a classic :lol:

I think Outkast - Miss Jackson would probably go on there quite well, I'd say that's almost as well regarded as Hey Ya! is...and The Fear should probably be on there too.

.... i hate ms jackson, but love 'hey ya', which for me was one of the classics of the decade.

I never knew Infernal had such a huge hit until I checked, I can't say I actually recognise it or consider it a classic. In terms of #2 dance hits from 2006, I'd consider Booty Luv's "Boogie 2nite" to be more recognisable. I wouldn't say "Release Me" was a classic either, but I suppose your love for it might help it's inclusion over someone like September. :heehee:

Leona looks a bit weird on the R&B disc, maybe Jordin Sparks/Chris Brown would be a good replacement, but Leona is an obvious must. Some of the million sellers are a bit forgotten about now (Shayne/Gareth) but there's an obvious argument for keeping them.

haha, maybe my love for it did skew my opinion of its status a bit, although it did sell more than a lot of the other dance songs on that disc...although by that reckoning, Knock You Down should be on there over some of the 2003/2004 R&B classics

I'm not sure I should remove it though, certainly not in favour of Infinity 2008 as Addy suggested, or Booty Luv which was probably in Agnes league of classic factor...is there a huge dance classic that I've missed that could replace it?

forgot about No Air if I'm honest :o

and I think Natashas Unwritten will be much more memorable than These Words...u can still hear it on Pantenne commercials :lol:

I was considering this...and I guess we don't really hear much of Natasha on the radio in the UK at all anymore

Unwritten only reached #6 here and didn't have the same impact as it did in the US

I think I'll remove Natasha altogether, put Leona in her spot on disc one and put No Air on to the gap on the R&B disc

Add Britney Spears - Oops I Did It Again & Christina Aguilera - Beautiful and it's perfect. :P

Britney and Christina were hard for me as I only want one song by each artist

Toxic was massive at the time but I suppose Oops...I Did It Again has actually had more lasting cultural impact

same with Christina I guess...I could easily replace Dirrty with Beautiful

no way am I swapping Hey Ya for Ms Jackson...in terms of classic status there is no competition

I was disputing whether I should put The Fear on over Smile though but I'm going to leave the latter on because it had such a huge cultural impact, marking the MySpace boom etc...whereas The Fear was the big second album comeback but as far as impact goes, I'd say Not Fair has had just as much this year, she really has been massive!

True, I think Agnes (and Keri) selling so much is more down to the high sales of this year, I don't think they'll be played much in years to come. (as much as "Knock You Down" is better than most of them)

As you probably know, Dance isn't a big specialty of mine but the longevity of Booty Luv and September was more than Agnes (and I simply haven't heard Infernal) perhaps iiO or Bodyrockers?

I've been updating mine recently too and we've made some very similar decisions.

Ones that I've included, despite personal taste, are I Like The Way You Move and She's So Lovely. Also, I'd say that one of the David Guetta #1s would probably work better than Agnes (for example) to represet the recent dance-R&B merge but again it's down to personal taste and interpretation.

I'm also thinking of including Number 1 to represent the current UK urban popularity.

My CD would obviously include my favourite hits of the decade, rather than those that have made the biggest cultural impact :heehee:

I like your choices though!

true, unfortunately :( it would be nice if both could have long lasting appeal though!

Bodyrockers was on my shortlist for the tracklist but removed in the final cull...iio wasn't quite big enough

I guess maybe a Daft Punk track should replace Release Me...they had a huge impact in 2000/1 and Discovery keeps popping up in Best Of the decade album lists. One More Time perhaps!?!

yeah...Sexy Bitch made more of an impact in general I think (slightly) so that might be a decent inclusion on the dance disc over Agnes

I also considered Tinchy Stryder - Number 1, but was that just a song of that time? it sold half a million but who will want to listen to it in five years?

I didn't put SFG on there as I didn't think it was *quite* big enough, same with Mary Mary's Shackles which is still on the radio a lot, and is quite timeless...but I didn't think it quite warranted a place on here

I'd say replace Agnes with either Number One or Break Your Heart, given that their urban/dance mish-mash has been one of the big sounds of the year, and has been a feature in a number of #1s this year (see also Never Leave You and Oopsy Daisy). Certainly it's very representative of 2009.

I'm definitely not putting Break Your Heart on there...it faded away very quickly and I don't think it will go down as one of the year's classics...same with Never Leave You

I think Number 1 has been the definitive song of the genre so I may add it

What about Jason Mraz? 'I'm Yours' has been MASSIVE. So I think he'd fit right in on CD3 :P

interesting choice...who would I chuck off CD 3 in his place though :o
Britney is the biggest artist of this decade overall, so she should get two songs. :lol:
  • Author

nobody gets two songs :smoke: it's all about picking the most important song from each artist

although Nelly Furtado has two, although I see Broken Strings as more of a James Morrison song myself :lol:

Franz Ferdinand or The Darkness maybe?

'Take Me Out':

{3}-7-13-13-26-34-36-42-62->9

'I Believe In a Thing Called Love':

{2}-3-5-9-13-20-19-24-27-27-33->11

and 'I'm Yours':

71-61-55-61R(2)-34-28-22-{11}-14-14-21-21-25-30-36-35-32-25-28-32-32-35-32-35-34-35-37-39-35-44-47-47-50-51-48-46-53-57-51-27-46-48-55-30-40-39-48-57-64->49

It's totally up to you! LOL! HAHA!

haha, Franz Ferdinand made a massive impact on the indie scene and made it cool again...it was a genre defining song so I won't be kicking that one off

Darkness maybe, although they were a (short lived) phenomenon!
