Posted March 14, 200817 yr Late Friday night, early Saturday charts, thanks to Dave Taylor (daverictaylor@yahoo.co.uk). This week, we have the latest album chart, film and DVD charts, the most up to date singles chart in Britain, all back to back, with a look back to March 1992. So here are this week`s albums... w/k ending 21/03 01 01 ROCKFERRY - DUFFY 02 NE DREAMING OUT LOUD - ONE REPUBLIC 03 04 ALL THE RIGHT REASONS - NICKELBACK 04 NE FLOORFILLERS 08 - VARIOUS 05 03 BACK TO BLACK - AMY WINEHOUSE 06 06 BREAKDOWN 08-VERY BEST OF EUPHORIC DANCE - VARIOUS 07 NE MASSIVE R + B SPRING COLLECTION 08 - VARIOUS 08 08 MASH UP MIX 08 - VARIOUS 09 07 SOUND OF BASSLINE - VARIOUS 10 05 SEVENTH TREE - GOLFRAPP 11 NE ORACULAR SPECTACULAR - MGMT 12 25 SPIRIT - LEONA LEWIS 13 12 THRILLER 25 - MICHAEL JACKSON 14 10 VERSION - MARK RONSON 15 14 THIS IS THE LIFE - AMY MACDONALD 16 11 LIFE IN CARTOON MOTION - MIKA 17 08 19 - ADELE 18 16 GOOD GIRL GONE BAD - RIHANNA 19 13 CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE - MICHAEL BUBLE 20 02 DIG LAZURUS DIG - NICK CAVE/BAD SEEDS The albums, are swamped with dance compilations, pushing the TEMPTATIONS, GET CAPE WEAR CAPE FLY, and YOUNG KNIVES and HERCULES/LOVE AFFAIR to the bottom, of the top 30. Meanwhile, back in 1992... w/k ending 21st Mar 92 01 02 DIVINE MADNESS - MADNESS 02 01 TEARS ROLL DOWN - TEARS FOR FEARS 03 03 STARS - SIMPLY RED 04 NE AFTER HOURS - GARY MOORE 05 NE GOING BLANK AGAIN - RIDE 06 NE SOUL EMOTION - VARIOUS 07 04 HORMONALLY YOURS - SHAKESPEARS SISTER 08 05 SEVEN - JAMES 09 NE DOPPELGANGER - CURVE 10 08 HIGH ON THE HAPPY SIDE - WET WET WET 11 09 ULTIMATE HARDCORE - VARIOUS 12 NE TECHNOSTATE - VARIOUS 13 NE WOODFACE - CROWDED HOUSE 14 22 ACTUNG BABY - U2 15 11 HEAVENLY HARDCORE - VARIOUS 16 16 REAL LOVE - LISA STANSFIELD 17 13 FROM THE HEART - ELVIS PRESLEY 18 12 SIMPLY THE BEST - TINA TURNER 19 14 TENDER LOVE-17 ROMANTIC LOVE SONGS - VARIOUS 20 24 NEVER MIND - NIRVANA A lot of long-stayers in the top 20 albums in 1992, with the return of MADNESS, dethroning other 80s favourites TEARS FOR FEARS (coincidently compared to ONE REPUBLIC, 16 years on). CROWDED HOUSE and WOODFACE contained the single "WEATHER WITH YOU"...."Walking round the room, singing Stormy Weather, at 57 Mount Pleasant Street, etc"...SHAKESPEARS SISTER`s album contained the smash hit single "STAY", featuring one ex-member of BANANARAMA. At this point there were a lot of left overs from Valentines Day, still hanging in, with ELVIS, and also the TENDER LOVE comp. The Hardcore series, was also doing well...the Brits, pushed NIRVANA and also U2 back up the chart, and whatever happened to RIDE, and CURVE? They both released E.P. singles, as well as these 2 albums. Who remembers the singles chart in 92? w/k ending 21st Mar 1992 01 01 STAY - SHAKESPEARS SISTER 02 02 I LOVE YOUR SMILE - SHANICE 03 05 AMERICA: WHAT TIME IS LOVE - KLF 04 03 MY GIRL - TEMPTATIONS 05 NE HUMAN TOUCH - BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN 06 09 WEATHER WITH YOU - CROWDED HOUSE 07 06 IT`S A FINE DAY - OPUS III 08 07 ONE - U2 09 04 NOVEMBER RAIN - GUNS N` ROSES 10 12 COME AS YOU ARE - NIRVANA 11 24 TEARS IN HEAVEN - ERIC CLAPTON 12 31 TO BE WITH YOU - MR BIG 13 NE FINALLY - CE CE PENNISTON 14 28 DEEPER LOVE - CLIVILLES AND COLE 15 13 I KNOW - NEW ATLANTIC 16 08 IT MUST BE LOVE - MADNESS 17 34 WE ARE EACH OTHER - BEAUTIFUL SOUTH 18 30 TIME TO MAKE YOU MINE - LISA STANSFIELD 19 11 I`M DOIN` FINE NOW - PASADENAS 20 23 FEELS LIKE FOREVER - JOE COCKER 21 22 PLACES THAT BELONG TO YOU - BARBRA STRIESAND 22 19 MAKE IT ON MY OWN - ALISON LIMERICK 23 10 THOUGH I`D DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN - BRYAN ADAMS 24 NE DEEPLY DIPPY - RIGHT SAID FRED 25 NE MORE THAN LOVE - WET WET WET 26 32 STEAL YOUR FIRE - GUN 27 35 RAVE GENERATOR - TOXIC TWO 28 16 FOR YOUR BABIES - SIMPLY RED 29 41 WE`VE GOT TO LIVE TOGETHER/WE GONNA GET - RAF 30 NE DO NOT PASS ME BY - HAMMER 31 49 LIFT EVERY VOICE (TAKE ME AWAY) - MASS ORDER 32 17 THE ONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW YORK - EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL 33 NE SWEET HARMONY - LIQUID 34 14 DRAGGING ME DOWN - INSPIRAL CARPETS 35 46 FAR GONE AND OUT - JESUS AND MARY CHAIN 36 40 EVERY KINDA PEOPLE - ROBERT PALMER 37 44 UNDER THE BRIDGE - RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS 38 39 LOST IN YOUR LOVE - TONY HADLEY 39 36 COLOUR MY LIFE - M. PEOPLE 40 15 REMEMBER THE TIME - MICHAEL JACKSON 1992, was the final full year, of DAVID JENSEN and the NETWORK CHART (Being repaced in Aug 93, with NEIL FOX, and the PEPSI CHART, and nothing to do with the NETWORK CHART origins). This was the 5th week at the top for SHAKESPEARS SISTER, and the rather scary video! That kept SHANICE and the MOTOWN label, off the top totally. THE TEMPTATIONS are back in the album chart, this week, but in 92, a re-issue from the MacCauley Culkin film, was at last a UK hit. MADNESS were back in the singles, with a re-issue of a 1981 top 5 hit. OPUS III, told us that it was "Gonna be a fine day today, and a fine day tomorrow"....MR BIG were on their way to a MRIB number one. The chart was a mixed bag all round, with NIRVANA, JOE COCKER and BARBRA STRIESAND. Could WET WET WET follow up, a number one with MORE THAN LOVE? Nope, all they achieved with this was number 19, which of course came from the album HIGH ON THE HAPPY SIDE. NEW ATLANTIC, TOXIC TWO, and LIQUID supplied us, with what was left of the "rave" scene. JESUS AND MARY CHAIN were well supported by NME in the 80s, and early 90s, but by now the hits were drying up...The late ROBERT PALMER supplied us with another re-issue (from 1978). TONY HADLEY went solo, from SPANDAU BALLET, It was first time around for the CHILLIS, and MICHAEL JACKSON, fell a massive 25 places!! Meanwhile outside the 40, so did the WEDDING PRESENT at 43, with THREE (their 3rd release, in 3 months, because they released a single every month, for the whole of 92....anyone collect them alll? Back up to date, with this week`s films... w/k ending 21st Mar 2008 01 NE VANTAGE POINT 02 NE THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL 03 NE THE GAME PLAN 04 01 THE BANK JOB 05 04 THE ACCIDENTAL HUSBAND 06 03 JUMPER 07 06 BE KIND REWIND 08 05 JUNO 09 NE SEMI PRO 10 07 THERE WILL BE BLOOD Lots of new films this week, and very good too. Well, the top 5 physicals are 1) LEONA, 2) DUFFY, 3) H TWO 0, 4) ONE REPUBLIC, 5) TAIO CRUZ...The download top 5 thus, 1) DUFFY, 2) ONE REPUBLIC, 3) LEONA, 4) FLO RIDA, 5) ALPHABEAT. Selling 900 more than Duffy. All versions, plus the download of FOOTPRINTS listed together here. For the simple reason, that how can you tell, which song is being bought/played physically? You can`t buy a physical version, without the other side. Will it top, the Official chart? Probabably not, because of the almost understandable rule, they have! PANIC AT THE DISCO, come from nowhere, is that the next number one, at number 10? As WE ARE SCIENTISTS plummet this week, it just coincidently has the same title, as the 1992 album, by GARY MOORE! Outside the 50 this week are, two umbrellas...with the MANICS at 51, and the RIHANNA/JAY Z version is 53...turning GABRIELLA CILMI into an umbrella sandwich, at 52!!, meanwhile the WOMBATS go down to 54, and SCOUTING FOR GIRLS reclaim a top 60 place, with SHE`S SO LOVELY. Don`t forget Next Week`s Chart, here on Monday, when we will once again, get out our crystal ball...this week, when compared to today, we had the top 5, spot on! Edited March 17, 200817 yr by trevs
March 14, 200817 yr 01 01 STAY - SHAKESPEARS SISTER My favourite song of the year, and the video scared the pants of me, when I first saw it =============================== On a further note regaring next week's #1 I don't think Panic will be the next #1, I think it will hit top 3 at the beginning of the week, but it will trail off by the end of the week to around 5 or 6. We should be seeing a lot of deadwood leaving the top 10

It looks very like, she will lose out by the seperation of OCC, by around 2,000+!! Edited March 14, 200817 yr by trevs

They should combine the whole lot together in my opinion, saves a lot of pain explaining the rules to every Tom, Dick and Harry, every 5 minutes.
March 14, 200817 yr Haha at Mart!ns post lol But like many people have said if they were to count the whole lot together then artists may as well release the whole album as a single  then they will have like 12 number 1's in one go! (Not to that extent but you catch my drift yeah?? lol)

(Not to that extent but you catch my drift yeah?? lol) Yeah but, how can the officials actually tell what side of said single, the public prefer? In our record shop on Tuesday....a couple came in saying "We must buy, Footsteps in the Sand, it`s a good charity single". Obviously, they prefer that side, of the single. If, to be fair, it was seperate on the chart, they would have to decipher how many preferred FOOTSTEPS, and how many preferred BETTER IN TIME!! How can that be deciphered? It can`t!! Anyway, if you compare it to other famous double A sides, i.e ROD STEWART and I DON`T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT/FIRST CUT IS THE DEEPEST...and you seperated sides, it would have denied ROD and anyone else, a number one!! Obviously, in the 50s and 60s, it was easy to seperate sides, because people, would have to go to the record shop, and ask for the title, over the counter. Definately, can`t be decided today. If a fair option, was viable, then a double A, should maybe not allowed to be released. Why not put out 2 physicals, instead? But, that said, as the physical single, is practically finished anyway, it will obvious to tell which side is preferred, because singles, will soon be totally download. March 15, 200817 yr Did I actually post that post last night, I must have been well tired  , I think the best idea is not to release double A sides no more, I can't see the point to be honest. As you said you might as well release 2 physical singles, but that will seem pointless, if both of them are for charity, as they only end up #1 and #2 and the week after #2 might knock the same artist of.

There was a case of that happening in January 1963. When on EMI`s own compiled chart, they listed all double A sides seperately. Cliff Richard knocked his self off, when the Next Time, was replaced by Bachelor Boy!!
March 15, 200817 yr Thanks trevs! It's a bit unfair on all the other songs in the chart that MRIB have amalgamated sales of the CD and downloads of both BIT / FITS for Leona Lewis. If the official chart was to follow this we'd end up with double or probably quadruple A sides for every single. The OCC rule is quite straightforward, physical singles can be double A sides but the only downloads that will be linked to the physical product / digital bundles will be downloads of the main track, which must be nominated in advance. Over the years I can only think of 3 records that may have encountered problems with this rule as the main song changed, in all three cases after Christmas - Last Christmas to Everything She Wants in 1984, When I Fall In Love to My Arms Keep Missing You in 1987 and Heartbeat to Tragedy in 1998. That won't happen again, at least not with sales of the single boosting the position of the other download. It probably happened before 1984, certainly Reason To Believe had charted and flipped to Maggie May on week 3 but it was never a decision made in advance to flip, as happened with those three records above.
March 15, 200817 yr I read somewhere else that in 86, Lulu had both copies of her Shout song listed as one on the Radio 1 chart. So why the sudden decision of the Leona saga?
March 15, 200817 yr Author I read somewhere else that in 86, Lulu had both copies of her Shout song listed as one on the Radio 1 chart. So why the sudden decision of the Leona saga? It`s certainly true about Lulu. Then, back further in September 1969. they listed 2 record labels, versions of the same banned record "Je`taime Moi Non Plus" seperately. This was exactly the same song, but one was on the Major Minor label, after Fontana, dropped it. All other charts, apart from that of Radio one, listed them together. A very similar story, with Ms Lewis.
March 15, 200817 yr The combing of both versions of Shout isn't the same as the Leona decision. Chart rules allow for sales alternate versions of the same song to be combined. Here MRIB have combined download sales of two different songs, effectively giving Leona an advantage. If this rule was applied in the OCC chart then every act would start issuing double, treble or even quadruple A sided CD singles and the chart would turn into a farce.
March 15, 200817 yr Panic At The Disco will be #3 I think next week. Utah Saints top 5. Sugababes and GA will be between 6-10 but I think GA will be higher.

Boney M - Rivers Of Babylon / Brown Girl In The Ring in 1978 (ROB was initially popular, but then BGITR gained airplay and became the more popular song) 2. Kraftwerk - Computer Love / The Model in 1981/82 (apparently the lead track kept switching)

I understand about how can they tell which would be more popular etc... but i think because better in time was the song that did better coming UP TO the physical date, then i think they went by that one! But i really dont have a clue! lol
March 16, 200817 yr 2 other significant problems that would have occurred: 1. Boney M - Rivers Of Babylon / Brown Girl In The Ring in 1978 (ROB was initially popular, but then BGITR gained airplay and became the more popular song) 2. Kraftwerk - Computer Love / The Model in 1981/82 (apparently the lead track kept switching)I completely forgot about the Boney M single! That was a genuine case of the public picking up on the flip side and beginning to buy the record for that song. Some reports at the time stated that people who had bought Rivers Of Babylon went out and bought it again as they didn't realise that BGITR was on the B side but instead thought it was the new single - many people just never bothered playing the B side of a single and presumably didn't know they already owned the song... And the Kraftwerk single - yes, that would be a problem. The Model was always the more popular side but on its initial chart entry Kraftwerk were trying to promote Computer Love. However, The Model grew in popularity and eventually the single recharted with that as the main track but the billing mentioned Computer Love too. I'd guess a reissue would be the only way that could be dealt with now. Edited March 16, 200817 yr by Robbie
