March 21, 200817 yr I think the chart is great as it is! It has never been so fair and unrestricted, imo.
March 21, 200817 yr this could mean loads of artists will flop more often and big star will start flopping its a joke really i you think about it :( if its a good enough song and worthy of a top ten spot then it will be a hit...look at Timbaland, Mark Ronson, Mika, Fergie...tons of hits off the same album they deserve to flop if they pick weak singles...perhaps it will make artists be more selective when picking singles as without hit singles, there is no incentive to buy an album...
March 21, 200817 yr I was just talking about it with a few of my mates and they think it is terrible too!! The only main thing that puts some people i know off buying the cd is pricing! I will not pay to download a song with no case etc when i can get it for free, thats why i like buying the cd and then burning it onto my computer, but i still put on the cd!!! I am totally against illegal downloading but if cd singles are finally thrown out then its the only way i will get single songs. However i will always buy albums.
March 21, 200817 yr I am totally against illegal downloading but if cd singles are finally thrown out then its the only way i will get single songs. However i will always buy albums. I think you have a point there. The Government are trying to stop us from downloading songs illegally, but at the same time everywhere except HMV seems to be backing out from selling singles at the moment. It seems like illegal downloading will only become more popular as a result of this. What's the point paying for a download if you can get it for free, albeit illegally? Not everyone can download the legal way. Don't you need a credit card or something, unless you get a gift voucher? Either way it's like the Government want us to do one thing, but the shops want us to do another.
March 21, 200817 yr This is quite alarming but the last single I bought was actually 'Who Let The Dogs Out?' by Bahamen! and I was 12! I've mainly bought artist albums/compilations since then and obviously downloaded singles in more recent year because its cheaper. When I was about 8-12 years old I always bought singles and I think it was because they were worth it. They used to be 1.99 with a minimum of 4 tracks on them including the single. Now u get 2 tracks if ur lucky and they're priced at 3.99! I am not surprised they are dying out. a download is quarter of the price and an album is just over double!
March 21, 200817 yr The end of the single, was imminent unfortunately. Woolworths did announce that in most towns, they would no longer stock singles, from this month also. Zavvi follow, so the end is virtually here. Historically, in March 1956, Melody Maker first published their Singles chart. In March 1958, the BBC increased their averaged singles chart, to a top 20. Also, in March 1978, Tom Browne quit the BBC sunday chart countdown. So, March is turning into a random Spring clean! Is there a good side to the end of the single? Could mean the finish for, Westlife and the like, in never getting in the top 3, ever again! Every cloud has its silver lining
March 21, 200817 yr Every cloud has its silver lining  As much as I dislike Westlife and the likes, i do feel that is unfair that thier fans will not be able to access their music anymore, ,(especialy the older generation that don't, and never will feel the need to download music) it's all well and good saying "I'm glad Westlife/McFly..etc won't be as sucsessfull" but is that a fair chart then?!?

No i dont think that it would be a fair chart!!! Even at the minute, westlife fans (and other bands as such) love to go out and buy the physical single and it was noted for their last single us against the world a vast number of fans could not find the single or even the cd2 of the single which has the most demand out of their singles, so they lost out on sales through this! Compared to the early 00's when alot of shops like asda, virgin, tesco, wooloworths, hmv, sainsburys and safeways etc all did cd singles. Now the only place i can get cd singles is in hmv in belfast and that is an hour journey away!
March 21, 200817 yr :o http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee65/elbarto678/huff.jpg That's rubbish, i love physicals LOL looks like it's all down to HMV  Yes, I still prefer physical singles too!
March 21, 200817 yr I don't think anyones cares! which is sad! I care, but they've made it so hard now to buy them anywere! so we are just forced to stop buying! TBH the singles I have bought this year have all been off HMV.co.uk, I hope they don't stop that would be it! BUT think about it, what if in a few years time a mega-virus wipes everyones PC of everything!! would we all be refunded for all the non-existant singles we've purchased?? hmmm just a thought!
March 21, 200817 yr I never managed to find any singles in our zavvi store - so it wouldn't make any difference here. I like singles. If I have to buy them online, I will. I just hope they don't stop making them.

I totally agree that we are being forced to stop buying the physical cd as its not even promoted properly in shops anyway, its shoved in some corner or dispalyed in a not so obvious cardboard box!! i remember a time when shops would have one wall with maybe the top 40 or top 20 singles all layed out and everyone could see them.
March 21, 200817 yr sucks that people are gonna be struggling to find somewhere to buy physical singles unless they live in a big city. Is there anywhere other than HMV that still sells CD singles?
March 21, 200817 yr I used to buy loads of singles (i'm a bit obsessed with collecting things so if a cd came in 2 parts, i always bought both  ) Now i only really buy singles for the artists i love - The last i bought was Wow, before that it was 2 Hearts! Mainly because they are so expensive (£4 in Zavvi for Leona is shocking, charity or not, sorry but  ) My next will probabbly be 4 minutes :w00t: (Although i am totally in love with Estelle so i might buy that if i see it next week :P )
