Posted March 31, 200817 yr Oh yes! :cheer: After my first plunge into the world of running by doing 6 miles for Sport Relief, I've decided to continue now my shin splints injury concerns have subsided  A nice slow restart to my training will start tomorrow :w00t: I seem to be growing a little pack of followers for my next run (so far) :cheer:, a 10K in September. Anyone else into the world of running?
April 6, 200817 yr me :cheer: **Advance warning - it becomes addictive.** So I have a 10km next Sunday - which is usually my training warm up for the Great Manchester Run which is in May. Then I start serious training as I am again doing The Great North Run in October - which is a half marathon - 21km Where are you running in September?
April 6, 200817 yr Author Middlesbrough in the 4th Tees Pride race - http://www.middlesbrough10krun.com :cheer: and it's a good addiction to have :kink:  May do a few 5K's in between yet depending how things go now I'm back in training. Have been reading up on a ultra marathon next summer to commemorate the 65th anniversary of D-Day, running 65 miles from Tarrant Rushton airfield to Pegasus Bridge in France. I'd love to do it as it's sort of once in a lifetime, and there are breaks every 10 miles or so, just depends on how well training continues through the winter and into next Spring. Could be a good excuse to run next year's London Marathon :kink:
April 6, 200817 yr Author Had a good week in light training :cheer: Run 4 x 1 miles all beating my old personal best of 0:10:09. I've had a 0:09:44, 0:09:54, 0:09:49, and today 0:09:39  First time I've managed to get under the magical 6 minute kilometre pace (0:05:57) I remember my first mile at the start of February :heehee: was a torturous 0:11:44
April 10, 200817 yr Good time - but can you sustain for 2 miles?? Struggled to run 3 miles last night - not good when have 10km on Sunday - my legs are still in skiing mode - thighs are strong but calves are complaining. http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/events/viewe...=2&EN=40888 We shall see but not holding out much hope for world record
April 10, 200817 yr Author good luck :D just promise your calves a present  and that world record will fall :P and it's Undulating *shudder* Hills are scary even little ones  Probably start stepping my distance up on Sunday.
April 13, 200817 yr Author how did it go? :D just done my final mile before I start my 2km and 2mi runs. A 00:08:49 now :o
April 13, 200817 yr how did it go? :D it went terribly  1hour 10mins 8 seconds - my worst time for 2 years :o it was raining tho but that isn't any real excuse!! I have 5 weeks to get that time to under an hour :whip: go you with your mile times!!!
April 13, 200817 yr Author oh dear! better than not making it at all :P :D I'm sure that sub hour will come (with or without rain ). My poor running trainers had poor grip for Sport Relief when it rained  Grip nicely now thankfully :D I'd like to thank my new Rbk breathe easy t-shirt for my first sub 9 minute mile, and 5:30 km  EDIT: ooh ooh I've found 2 5K races to fill some of the gap before the Middlesbrough 10K
April 17, 200817 yr 5km races are good, I always run better in a "proper" race (well Sunday excluded) ... find a club run where they post results on internet then the motivation to not be last is great  can tell I didn't run well on Sunday - my legs weren't even a little stiff on Monday, but my shoulders were - shouldn't run with arms tense  but am back in training - I got my best ever official time in The Great Manchester Run 2 years ago - 58 minutes - but will be happy to just get a bit closer to the hour!
April 17, 200817 yr Author The 5K's are all trail races and part of a 6 race series (can't make it to all :() http://www.teesforest.org.uk/Trailracehome.htm The results are posted on a website though :cheer: as I had a sneaky look to see what I would need to run to avoid being last :D Should be easily away from last place if I run as I know I can now
April 17, 200817 yr im gonna have to take up running as cross training, and its the only way to improve my 400 & 1500's
April 17, 200817 yr Author it can get addictive :heehee: I'm going to start cross training soon, probably on bike.
April 17, 200817 yr i have dabled with running in the past. i hated it everytime. on the upside, the treadmill's at my uni gym come equipped with tv's :cheer:
April 18, 200817 yr Treadmills are the only way for me. I used to run 10k three times a week a couple of years ago, but I've totally let myself slip. Mind you, managed just over 8km in just over 40 minutes yesterday - mainly flat with a wee incline...obviously nothing like a proper race! It is addictive and that's a really good thing - I tried to switch to cross training and cycling for variety but they just don't work as well with me.
April 21, 200817 yr Author One has noticed bruises on the tops of my legs :o Just like little burst blood vessels. A couple on my left, and a few smallish ones on my right. Pulled out of running until I see them settle :o :(
April 24, 200817 yr Author :o :( hope they ain't serious can't say they're any worse, but they don't look that much better  :( Think my last run was unlucky 13th April  Could be small little haematomas which can take weeks to months to clear up properly. Shall have to pop to the doctor in the next week or so if there's no improvement.
May 10, 200817 yr Author Well they haven't hurt me at all and don't seem to match up to any serious things. And they seem to change from red to purple depending on how cold/warm I am  Done a bit more digging, and they seem most likely to be stretch marks , and they seem to look like the ones on photos, only mini versions that don't go on for inches and inches  Reminds me of when I had bad trapped wind near my appendix area  and I thought I had appendicitis
