Galway Girl's a great song and it would be good if it was a hit here but I can't see it happening

The chart that they counted down appeared to be the official one (with Rick Astley in his first week at #2) - or at least it was when I listened to the repeat on the Tuesday evening.

I think David Jensen, was a bit confused because TOGETHER FOREVER got to the number one spot, on the local London MRIB chart (e.g. the Capital Countdown, featured in Pick Of The Pops-Take Two, in March 88), but not the Gallup, or Network Chart.

The chart that they counted down appeared to be the official one (with Rick Astley in his first week at #2) - or at least it was when I listened to the repeat on the Tuesday evening.

For the first half of the show though, he was saying stuff like "Rick was at #1 when all these songs were beneath him..." and "How did it feel, Rick, whenever you had a single that didn't make it to #1?" - he only ever had ONE #1!!!

He was definitely playing a non-official chart cos he announced and played #20 as Aswad's "Don't Turn Around" (which was at #22, on its way to #5 the next week) and #19 as Alexander O'Neal/Cherelle's "Never Knew Love Like This" (which was actually on its way down from #31 to #37 that week from a peak of #26). And before anyone suggests it, they certainly weren't played as "bubbling under" tracks. A lot of the tracks between #12 and #18 were also in the incorrect order, albeit slightly. I then had to switch off at the halfway point by which time Kid was talking about Rick's #2 single that week rather than the #1.

Galway Girl is enjoying a 2nd week at no 1 in Ireland (and a 45th week in the Top 50) though that's not the version with Steve Earle which actually drops from 26 to 29 on its 6th week. The CD single gives top billing to the version with Mundy though the Steve Earle version is track 2 - I believe the UK release reverses this. Full details can be found in the 2008 Irish chart thread.

Oh and I would also recommend the U105 chart show with David Johnston!

I have been digging out all the charts from that week in March 88, and it looks like David Jensen, did not play DEREK B. and GOOD GROOVE. Maybe they couldn`t find a copy, and so rearranged some hits, to avoid complaints. Rather stupid thing to do! Capital used to do that a lot, when featuring old charts, in the early 90s on shows like Pat Sharps ten at ten, and a re-hashed Pick Of The Pops, this time known as POTP-Take Three!

Rick did actually have 3 number ones in a row, on the Network Chart. NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP, WHENEVER YOU NEED SOMEBODY and WHEN I FALL IN LOVE. He also topped the NME chart with TOGETHER FOREVER, and like I said this also, top the London MRIB chart. Capital could do a better job, for GOLD, shame on them. Their library is the biggest for Independant Radio, so the have no excuse. While talking about GOLD, does anyone else think that Mike Sweeney is rather egotistical?

Yep, it`s a great show, on Sundays, and called "Not The Top 40". We have a scream in the house, every week because the jingle, on the U105 show says, "This is not the top 40, with David Johnston". Someone always shouts out, "thank God, for that!"

We think it`s called NOT THE TOP 40, because another station in Ireland (RTE RADIO 2) runs the Irish chart, at that time, I believe?

Smashing in at number one in 92, it was NOW 21, featuring the hits of early 92, including CROWDED HOUSE, SHAKESPEARS SISTER et al. RIGHT SAID FRED couldn`t get the overalll number one album, whatever (although one of the singles did rather well, as we will find out shortly) :D SIMPLY RED had the multi seller STARS riding up and down since 1991. MADNESS did well, actually reminding us of an earlier album really (although this one was a greatest hits album). More greatest hits from ZZ TOP, and the only one, who didn`t have a beard, had the surname of Beard! BEAUTIFUL SOUTH got the title of 0898, from those expensive phone numbers that started like that, for dodgy porn numbers, and high costing sport, and news info numbers. JOSEF LOCKE was a very old Irish singer, who returned in 1992. BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN had 2 albums in the top 30, the other was LUCKY TOWN at 22, down from 8.

Let`s look at 1992`s singles chart

The 2nd of 4 weeks, at the top for RIGHT SAID FRED in 92. IRON MAIDEN had their regular smash in to the top 3, and then crash down, the next week. VANESSA WILLIAMS, CURTIS STIGERS, TEN SHARP, ANNIE LENNOX and CHRIS DE BURGH kept Radio 2`s playlist going! Spot the re-make with ZZ TOP singing an ELVIS 1964 hit, MR BEAN sings ALICE COOPER from 1972, MARC ALMOND singing a DAVID MCWILLIAMS flop, from 1967/8, PASADENAS covered BREAD from 1970. Even ROD STEWART was singing ELTON JOHN. CARTER did a take on an old SIMON AND GARFUNKEL title, THE ONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW YORK, became THE ONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW CROSS. Acid House continued with ALTERN 8, PRAGA KHAN, and others. KYLIE scraped the top 10, with the hardly remembered FINER FEELINGS. DEF LEPPARD asked the slightly dodgy LET`S GET ROCKED, including the line "I suppose a rock`s out of the question!" MADNESS re-released HOUSE OF FUN from the GH album, and a much underated singer called TEVIN CAMPBELL released the minor hit, "TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT ME TO DO". Many of those songs can be seen, on YOUTUBE, if not all of `em. No need to listen to Dale Winton`s pretty naff Radio 2 show, what!!!!!! :puke2:

) Denotes position without downloads only

Just like I said last week, it was a foregone conclusion that MADONNA would go to the top. She sells 8,000 more copies, than ESTELLE on download alone. In exactly, the same position, that ESTELLE herself was last weekend. KYLIE could actually swap places, with VALERIE to go back in the 50, with WOW coz, they are so close. Meanwhile outer limits of the top 75 show SCOUTING FOR GIRLS with 3 songs in the top 60. QUEEN are 54 this week. Also in the top 60 are the HOOSIERS, and ADELE`s COLD SHOULDER. In the top 70, lurks more KYLIE, BENS BROTHER, FUNKERMAN, SIMPLE PLAN, and ROBYN with LIL`WAYNE not far behind. SCOOTER lose out, as a bubbler, and biggest loser this week, selling virtually no downloads is JAMIE LIDELL.

Next week, look out for the FEELING, CAHILL, FUNKERMAN, and downloads from WILEY, SHANNON,(SHARON) and JAY SEAN.

Also next Saturday (26th Apr 08) CHARTSHOW TV will be running their own top 40 selling singles, of the week between 3 and 7pm. New, for 2008!

Unfortunately, this week was the last time, that MRIB will be producing Album, and Singles charts. They will no longer be part of MRIB`s portfolio. They will continue to produce Film, and Dvd charts.

What we will do next Friday night is too, replace the MRIB singles/Album charts by Chartshow TV ones. Which will once again, be the fastest chart, on TV.

That`s a shame Dave. Did you know that before? They were the first to do Indie charts, too.

09 NE SHINE A LIGHT

10 NE PATHOLOGY

How far down the charts do these have to be for these to be considered a flop?

Anyway its sad news :(

I don't understand...is this the actual chart - the one that radio1 plays?
I don't understand...is this the actual chart - the one that radio1 plays?

No Radio 1`s is compiled by MILWARD BROWN. MRIB are another market research company, who used to compile for Capital Radio etc.

2FM has the Irish charts between 3 and 4. They play a track from the no 1 compilation, one from the no 1 artist album and then the Top 10 singles throwing in a couple of bonus tracks (new entries usually). Don't think that's the reason for U105's title though - 2FM is in the Republic of Ireland while U105 is in Northern Ireland.

I got a mention on Not The Top 40 one week. It was coming up to Christmas and I realised that they would be playing Merry Christmas Everyone so got them to mention a Shakin' Stevens forum I'm a member of. To my surprise they read it out.
