I was just wondering if anyone on here collects each No.1 single, and how big your collection is.

I try to, but then again I started very late, some time in 2004 actually! although I have bought some obvious classics earlier just because I liked the song. But since 2004 I have tried to buy the No.1 song each week, discounting all the Elvis ones, (I really didn't feel the need! <_< plus they were just part of a money making ploy, and not the REAL most popular song that week!) Akon - Smack That, McFly - Star Girl & Babys Coming Back, Stereophonics - Dakota (don't know why as I like the song??) The Katie Melua 'Tesco' one AND Leon Jackson! (off the top of my head!) other than them few I have managed to get hold of all the other No.1's since around Oct 2004....yes a bit obsessive, but it is an addiction!

anyway I have no doubt at all my collection will be beaten by someone on here! so lets hear from yeh!

Yes I used to, but I stopped at 1000, the Elvis re-releases made me stop, as I thought they would make #1 each week.

Woah, how many do you have upto the 1000th?? I also know what u mean, the Elvis stunt did sort of take the point out of it I suppose! <_<

A guy on Havenforum called Sim has them all. That's every one since charts began in 1952.

I have the majority of Number Ones on CD single from 1992 to 2004 with a few more dating from 1987 (My earliest CD No.1 is Pet Shop Boys Always On My Mind).

And they are all about to be sold on Ebay sadly....they just don't get played and are taking up valuable space!

Yep, and he gets the multiple formats as well. Quite a collection he has.

Been buying since 1982, then back tracked, have all physical #1s since 1980 and many before. Transferred all to year by year CDs. Finding it very difficult now as ASDA, TESCO, WHSmiths, Woolies, Our Price, Virgin etc etc no longer either exist or sell singles. How do you put a download on the shelf with your CDs? :w00t:
What are people going to do when there's a download only No1, which probably going to happen next week with Coldplay firmly at the top of itunes? I suppose you could buy NME or burn the download onto a CD for completeness. But would that be the same for you?
Same here :naughty: On CD Single format I have quite all the number 1s since 1991 until now :cheer: Of coure, number ones that also I like the songs, not only songs that reached #1 but they suck :puke2: My CD Single collection just passed the 1,500 quota :yahoo: xox.

I have a huge collection of number ones in 78, 7", 12", Cassettes, CDs, DVD etc etc but I'm far not complete. Have to say I rejected the Elvis reissues as well. Got the Elv1s album anyway. I've got all the eighties, all nineties bar Iron Maiden and all the Naughties bar the Elvis's above and Mandy. I only need about a dozen for the seventies, but quite a few sixties and fifties. I have, I believe the most complete colllection of chart topping cassettes I know of covering the whole chart elligible period of 1989-2003.
Any completist collecting physical number one singles is probably gonna have their work cut out with what is likely to be next weeks number one.

Mint Royale, will get a re-issue. Although, it is quite easy, to get a copy, from sites, like Amazon, etc.. Although saying that, when the track first went on iTunes, the other week...you could buy, a copy on Amazon, for £1.99...Now, it has suddenly become a collectors item, and the price has gone bombing up..as much as £17.99, or more!! Then, there is postage to pay, too!!

Mind you, completists (who are great collectors), would feel, even more satisfied..if they not only, had the combined number one, from the last couple of years (since downloads, took off)..but also, the actual week`s physical top seller, and the week`s, number one download track too.

I've got all the number 1s from 1952 to 2005 as MP3s stored on 1 DVD .I collected all the Elvis CDs from 2005 and have a large majority of number 1s on either Albums,7" singles ,10" Singles 12" singles or CDs.

I started collecting them in 1973 (Blockbuster by Sweet).

After every 20 or so #1s burn a disc with them all on in order. It wouldn't look as good but it would still have all the songs on.

I have the Mint Royale CD from a few years ago so I wasn't gonna buy it again but I've just read that it has changed labels to Syco, so looks like I'll have to buy it to have the correct catalog no in my collection. Such is life.
I started collecting last year and have 373 left to find. Just bought "Singin' In The Rain" off Amazon for £17 (!), which I begrudge a little.

Why did you not use E-Bay?

I collected lots of them until the late 90s. I didn't collect them after as the #1s were always filled with the likes of Pestlife, Mc$h!te and urban rubbish

It would get increasingly difficult to play the original copies of 1950s #1 as until 1957 most of them were only available as 78s.

Because it was going for £20+ there??
