BBC Scotland were showing this video tonight.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7405259.stm

How terrifying is that?

Is this really acceptable in 21st Century Britain? Honestly, it's getting more like Mad Max every day. What do we as a Society do to stop this? Should Football Clubs be held much more accountable for fan behaviour?

Was this caused by alcohol pure and simple? Was it something pre-planned and much more sinister?

Meant to say, typical of the BBC to dip the sound because of the swearing. I think swearing is a minor issue, particularly as they go on to show some poor sod getting his head kicked in....

f***ing ridiculous if you ask me.

And now, if United win the champions league, we're not allowed an open top bus tour because of some f***off scotting fans  How is that fair? It pretty much sums up Englands view of Scotland's hoolaganism though, and just justifies it.

If Rangers ever hoped to gain entry into the Premiership, I think they have shot themselves in the foot, big time. More chance of playing in the Republic of Ireland Sunday church league now.

Thats all some people went down for get smashed then smash up Manchester

giving Scotland a bad name

Looking at your signature...

This may seem a tad insensitive but being a Football fan who regularly attends matches, I do not feel one bit of pity for the Copper. I'm no football hooligan by any stretch of the imagination but if you have seen some of the sights I have then you'd think differently.

Although that may seem heartless, I've seen innocent 65+ year olds BATONED by the Police on occasions, Football fans on Crutches being pushed around, merely for standing in the wrong place. There is other examples that I could possibly think of, but its late on a Friday night. Maybe some will say "it's there job, they should be allowed to enforce the law" but have the police been involved with brutality before? Damn right they have!!

The Police have very often in the past liked to give a good battering to the Football fan or Protestor... Don't see why we have to be so disgusted when they get some of their own medicine?

Glad he wasn't too badly hurt, however.

i think we should make it clear that most of these people are unemployed scum from the skirts of Glasgow, and not a true representation of the eastern half of the country

Sorry mate but Scotland have an appalling history of violence in England, they can't all be unemployed

Scotland caused the cancellation of the Home Internationals championships when they destroyed Wembley stadium throwing seats and smashing all the goalposts and rioting in the surrounding streets, Rangers fans were involved in running battles in the streets of London when they played Chelsea in a friendly, they can't all have been unemployed scum from the skirts of Glasgow

I very much doubt an unemployed guy could afford the train fare down to Manchester and all the alcohol that seems to have sparked off the violence

I didn't seem planned, so I think it was just a case of pissheads not being able to hack their c**p team losing.... As a Scot, Rangers fans disgust me tbh, and they are an utter disgrace to my Nation... They are amongst the most racist, sectarian and small-minded football "fans" it has ever been my misfortune to come across.... They're almost as bad as Millwall fans.. I was frankly not surprised at all when I saw the footage... Every time an Orange Parade is held in Glasgow, you will see armies of these 'Gers shirt-clad w/ankers all boozed-up, shouting obscenities and acting in an aggressive manner, just looking for any excuse to start a fight.. I think it IS about time the clubs were held responsible for the actions of their so-called "fans".....

Absolutely mate... I've personally seen myself instances of the Police beating protestors when they were on the ground and presenting no threat to anyone on Demos.. Not to mention the fact that it was the Police's serious error of judgement that contributed to the Hillsborough disaster, and dont even get me started on the Jean Charles De Menezes affair.... <_< Yet, when do you EVER see these b/astards actually face the consequences for their actions...? No, like you, I didn't feel an awful lot of sympathy for that copper tbh... It's not the man I object to so much, it's what the uniform represents....

A someone who was indavertantly trapped in the middle of this - I would personally like to thank the police who got me and my mother out of there, albeit at 1am!!

The 15,000 ballet fans in the MEN managed to behave - shame about the football fans.

How DARE anyone suggest that it is ok for a bunch of animals to surround ANY human being and kick them like a ball!!!!!

How DARE anyone defend any of the ANIMALS that turned this city into a public toilet and caused untold damage!!!

How DARE anyone suggest that it is ok for a bunch of animals to surround ANY human being and kick them like a ball!!!!!

Well, HOW DARE the Police surround human beings who are just protesting or happen to be New Age travellers going to Stonehenge or a rave or summat and whacking them on the ground with their fukkin' truncheons...... WHICH I HAVE SEEN WITH MY OWN EYES!!!!!!!!! <_< <_< <_< HOW DARE the police use brutality and violence against the Miners who were trying to save their livelihoods and their communities.. HOW DARE the Police use unnecessary lethal force against a bloke sitting on a fukkin' tube minding his own business, and then conspire to LIE to the country to cover up their own incompetence, make themselves look good and the man they murdered look somehow "guilty". HOW DARE the police shoot a man in the head for the "crime" of carrying a bloody TABLE LEG in a bag..... I could go on, but I would frankly be here all bloody day listing the crimes of the Police upon the citizenry of this country....

I don't defend the scummy 'Gers fans, but there does seem to be an agenda in this country to protect the police when they are guilty of obvious brutality and even cases of murder (there are many such instances of "mysterious deaths" in police custody which you REALLY should do a bit of research on)...

.....Hence my (and the original poster's) apparent lack of sympathy for this copper..... The institution he represents is rotten......

what on earth are you talking about???

I AM TALKING ABOUT WEDNESDAY NOT THE f***ING 80'S!!!!!!

Are you suggesting these drunken thugs were imposing some deep and meaningful statement of past police brutality???

NO - they were kicking the $h!t out of a man who was trying to protect his city and do his job.

And are you suggesting police 'crimes' during the miner's strike have ANYTHING to do with wednesday night??

Are you suggesting that the police should have stood back and allowed the destruction of the city centre???

Let them take their anger out on a city only just rebuilt, then got back on their coaches and left us to clean up???

oh and if you actually popped off your high horse for long enough you would have realised by the use of the words "human being" that I probably don't argee brutality, from whichever "institution"

how typical of UEFA to go all flaccid about this, saying as it wasn't at the stadium or at the perimeter they can't do anything

Guarantee if it was an English club abroad creating havoc on the streets of wherever the club or even the entire country would be banned from European football. Double standards -_-

I agree with what ICR is saying. You can't say that this copper deserved what he got because of what others have done! Okay policeman aren't always saints, but neither are other people. If we didn't have police then the world would be a complete shambles. Whatever people think of them, at the end of the day they're there to assure people.

The videos of Wednesday night are horrid. What that copper did (and others) was brave, he had hundreds of crazy Rangers fans running towards him and he's very lucky he escaped with such minor injuries. He actually only got out of the mess because some Rangers fans helped him. Rangers completely trashed the city and were hell bent on attacking the people that were trying to attack the city. If this was my city where this happend i'd be livid.

Oh and I do agree that Rangers will get off lighlty with this. If this was English fans then everyone would be crying there eyes out, calling for us to be banned from European football, and possibly internationl major events too. As Matt Aloud says, is double standards.

As ICR said what has this gotta do with Wednesday night ? it was a bunch of pissheads who couldn't handle their team losing

Most of them have single digit IQ's and if you mention the name Jean Charles De Menezes to them they would ask whether he plays for Real Madrid or Barcelona, this drink fuelled destruction had nothing to do with previous cases of police brutality it was tanked up bad losers who couldn't handle the scoreline and nothing more

It is time the police dealt with rioters more swiftly, OK helicopter gunships might be a bit extreme even though they would have deserved it the other night but it is time that police bought in water cannons that spray a bright coloured dye that can't be washed off except by a solution only available to the police so people who riot have a choice of turning themselves in and going to jail or can keep the dye on their bodies and faces for life

Very few of the examples I gave took place in the 80s... The Jean Charles De Menezes murder was only a few years ago, the Demos on which I saw the Police beat up friends of mine were mainly in the 90s.. Don't expect me to have sympathy with coppers in general, I don't..

What I object to is the press always apparently being on the side of coppers, NEVER on the side of people the coppers actually beat up and hospitalize themselves.. Never on the sides of families who lose loved ones, such as the De Menezes family and the families of the people who have died "mysteriously" in custody.. If the Police were held up as being as accountable as you or I for committing crimes and assaults, I would perhaps have a bit more sympathy for coppers like that bloke on Wednesday night....

Maybe it doesn't have anything specific to do with Wednesday night, it's just a general feeling I have towards Police.. And if you actually PAID ATTENTION you'll actually realise that I condemned the Gers fans... I dont like 'em, never have.. They're a bunch of bigoted scum who are a disgrace to Scotland....

Guarantee if it was an English club abroad creating havoc on the streets of wherever the club or even the entire country would be banned from European football. Double standards -_-

English clubs were banned from Europe for years because of that bunch of maggots and scum who committed acts of violence and murder within in the Heysel Stadium, FACT.... English clubs have never been banned from European competitions because of anything they've done OUTSIDE a stadium to my knowledge...

What I object to is the press always apparently being on the side of coppers, NEVER on the side of people the coppers actually beat up and hospitalize themselves.. Never on the sides of families who lose loved ones, such as the De Menezes family and the families of the people who have died "mysteriously" in custody.. I have no idea how you can reach that conclusion

It was the press that exposed the lies and inconsistencies of the Met with regards the De Menezes case, it was the press that called for Ian Blair to resign, the press very much kept the thing in the headlines, the press were also very scathing of the cops that handled the Stephen Lawrence case, the press were very critical of the Colin Stagg witchunt so the press don't always side with the Police

it was a bunch of pissheads who couldn't handle their team losing

Which is what I said in my first post, idiot.... Please DO keep up..... -_-

Look, I'm getting pretty fukkin' sick of repeating myself - I DO NOT EXCUSE THE SCUMMY GERS FANS IN ANY WAY!!!!!!! I don't like Rangers fans, I dont like Rangers football club.. I don't like the unpleasant atmosphere of bigotry and sectarianism that Rangers' fans and their club creates.... They are a fukkin' disgrace to Scotland and frankly, I'd happily see Ibrox demolished tbh... No, I'm not a Celtic fan, they can be almost as bad sometimes..

But you English have got pretty fukkin' short memories when it comes to footie violence.. As bad as 'Gers fans are, they're still nowhere near as bad as a lot of the scum who support clubs like Millwall and West Ham.... Both of these clubs habitually cause havoc..... And England exports its absolute WORST every time there's a European or World Cup competition... I do believe that it was YOU LOT who caused the worst sh"t that occurred at the last WC event.....

...Like I say, short fukkin' memories...... -_-
