Leona Lewis from Hackney, London was the winner of the third series of the UK reality TV show, THE X FACTOR. Lewis auditioned with "Somewhere Over The Rainbow"--in the style of Eva Cassidy rather than Judy Garland--and was eventually crowned the winner on 16th December 2006, polling 60% of the estimated 8 million votes. Her debut single--"A Moment Like This"--was released a matter of days after the final and roared to the top of the UK singles charts claiming the prestigious Christmas number 1 spot, selling over half a million copies on the way. In February 2007, Lewis signed a multi-million dollar contract with Clive Davis' J Records, and began the lengthy process of recording her debut full-length, SPIRIT. The first fruits from the album sessions, Lewis' second single, ôBleeding Loveö, became her second UK number one in October 2007. - HMV

Santogold and Taio top 30 :w00t:

Doesn;t the background of "I Can Be" sound like it could be in the Lion King? You know the bit that goes "ela" or something like that...

And I LOVE Santogold's album art it's... unique

Love Santogold  I may get her album when I have the money.

Ashlee Simpson, younger sister of singer Jessica Simpson, is one of the most fascinating pop-culture phenomena of the early 2000s. Following a stint on the squeaky-clean television drama "7th Heaven," the prefabricated sensation's singing career was launched in 2004 with the release of AUTOBIOGRAPHY. Despite an infamous lip-synching debacle on SNL, fans continued to gobble up Ashlee's pop take on alternative rock. Simpson is an intriguing study in insta-fame and, as her 2005 release I AM ME proved, a dependable source for catchy chart toppers. - HMV

Multi-talented R&B artist, songwriter and producer, Taio Cruz signed a US publishing deal at the tender age of 18. Hailed as 'the new Babyface', the precocious Londoner earnt songwriting credits for Usher, Mya and Britney, and worked with Jazze Pha and Rich Harrison before his first release. On his debut album DEPARTURE (2008), Cruz inevitably shone in every department. From sweet and smooth vocals to the crisp and slick beats, DEPARTURE boasted individuality and style, and included the UK top five hit single "Come On Girl", a duet with Luciana. - HMV

This is easily Taio's best tune he ever recorded. But I don't think it will hit the top ten probaly the top 15 though next week.

Come on Ting Tings get to number 1 please and stop that awful Rihanna dirge!!!!

Though journalistic shorthand often finds Nickelback dubbed "the Canadian Creed", the band found success on its own terms right from the start with the 2000 debut album THE STATE. It may be true that the band's heavy guitars, pounding drums, and dramatic vocals are in line with the Creed approach, but like that band, Nickelback is equally indebted to the heavy metal and hard rock heroes of the '70s. As with many other 21st century heavy rockers, though, Nickelback fits catchy pop sensibilities into their sonic onslaught, ensuring as enthusiastic a reception from radio as they receive from their rabid fanbase. - HMV
