I heard Sugar Ray's Every Morning at work today and the whole feel of that song just reminded me of Kid Rock's song

I say bring slipknot to number 1 when it comes out then we'll see the chart alot more funnier ;)

I do think it's overrated, but I just enjoy it really. I don't think it's like groundbreaking or anything like that but it's a decent song that I enjoy listening to :P

Erm, the album is brillant IMO, I have been listening to it on repeat for a week now and I love it!

And why do you say it's "overrated"? Noone says it's the best song ever, or that K Perry is the most talented singer ever, people just like the song and enjoy listening to it, there's nothing bad about it :P

Perry's song is fine but nothing special for me, and IMO it is veeeery overrated. It's popular in Russia too, I don't hear it everywhere now, but I'm afraid it will happen later and I'll begin hating this song. And I prefer "All Summer Long" because it's much more charismatic. It's just my taste of course. :P

I'd disagree with you r.e. 'I Kissed a Girl'. The lyrical content makes it edgy yes but it's the strong chorus and melody which ulimately is what is making this song so popular. Why would it solely be lyrics about woman-on-woman kissing. For a start it's been done before but also that'd only appeal to a small demographic of men if that was the case (some lesbians also perhaps) whereas this song has obvious mainstream appeal. I doubt she'll be a one-hit wonder too. 'Hot N Cold' is a more than strong enough follow-up to be a success. One area I will agree with you on is the album. It is utterly awful. Bad attitude, horrid delivery, flat lyrics I could go on. But at least she has 2 good songs up her sleeve I suppose haha.

 

Also in regards to thecocknbullkid, Lykke Li, Annie etc you need to look at label politics and pop-sensibility. thecocknbullkid has only had one single thus far (one which is left-pop at its most extreme) and therefore success is something she won't see until she builds herself up, the same too is true of Lykke who whilst 'Pop' to a certain extent is left-field and on a small label. It's just a case of major American labels vs. the small British ones and the US will always win. Hits are about money not credible, quality music. Annie is the one artist you suggested which doesn't fit the mold. If Island get their act together, pump some money into her, then she could be prettay massive I'd say...

I could see Katy Perry being #01 quite quickly. #67 is an impressive debut.

I have always been against people releasing things WAY too early i think a week or two is fine but any higher... they should bring the release date forward! If Katy wants a longer stay at number 1 then thats the best for her too do. Because as soon as she is knocked off, I REALLY dont think she will be able to get it back again and will stick at number 2 for ages!
