Posted July 15, 200817 yr I thought i should start one seing as im new, and think this might spark something. I argue alot with people about this, because i truely like mcfly....they're a talented bunch, but people are sheepish when disliking them....what do you think of them? Remember what mother told us. Honesty is the best policy kids :) xx
July 15, 200817 yr I am certainly not sheepish when it comes to disliking McFly immensely and I'm feeling quite scathing today so apologies in advance. There's already been quite a lot of topics on McFly on here which never seem to go down well, if you look on either page 2 or 3 there's a big long thing about them giving away their latest album free with a newspaper. To be honest the main reason for me not liking them is because of their fans. Some of their fans worship the ground they stand on and whilst it's fair enough to look up to someone, most of the tweens think they s*** gold dust and it just goes a little too far for my liking. I'm all for people sharing their opinions but I just can't take someone whos only setence is 'I want to marry Dougie' seriously. I just think quite a lot of their fans can't be realistic about their 'success' in terms of the bigger picture. They're all happy when 'McFly are #1' but truth of the matter is sales after their first week of releasing a single are appauling. They have some of the worst chart runs. Other than that I think as people they're quite rude. I have had the unfortunate pleasure of crossing paths with them a few years ago. The one thing that really got me though was I was reading an interview with them in Heat magazine I think it was and they got asked a question about groupies and if they'd ever done anything with them and I believe the response was 'no, have you seen some of the girls that wait outside for us' and I thought that was vile. They should atleast respect and value the people that buy their music and who have put them where they are, so in that sense I feel sorry for their fans. Also to be fair I agree that it's good that they do play their own instruments and write songs because they are creative in that sense, but their style it's just not my thing. I just can't listen to their material. But at the same time I understand there is always going to be people that like them and you know we're all different and there is nothing wrong with that. July 15, 200817 yr Author wow thank you that was a great response :P I love them, and alot of what you've said i agree with. I don't worship them, i just love the way the music makes me feel if im honest....i don't follow every tv interview they do or magazine thread they get, because im interested in the music. And if im honest i went to a cd signing when i was 14/15 i think, and i remember danny looking really bored and he wasn't paying much attention to his fans. Where as harry was interacting with them hugging them and talking to them. But again, i look at the music not them as persons :P I couldn't careless if one of them had three legs haha :) Thanks for your reply, i read the whole thing i was really interested :P
July 16, 200817 yr I like them :cheer: Seen them live before too ^_^ and also own 4 of their singles in original ^_^ But I USED to be a fan I liked their first album ALOT and wasnt too impressed with the second so i didnt bother with the third but Transylvania and their newest one 'One For The Radio' are both really good ^_^ So I used to love them but I only like them now. But in the Sunday predictions topic it may seem i LOVE them still :o
July 16, 200817 yr One For The Radio is a good song i'll give them that but most of their last songs have been awful (Transylvania anyone) and just embarrasing chart runs.
July 16, 200817 yr I like McFly alot. People class them as guilty pleasure but I think they are 21st century Beatles. They can play their own instruments and have amazing voices. I even went to seem live back in 05! And i went to see "Just My Luck" because it starred the McFly boys. I'm so pleased with "One For The Radio" it's something a bit different from the previous albums. Can't wait for the free album in the newspaper LOL
July 16, 200817 yr Fans aside (who are ALL bloody annoying, trust me, all of them), I personally cannot stand them. They started as a tribute-Busted band, a 2nd rate copy (and don't say they weren't, because they where -_- ), and they're still acting like one. Ok, if they made some decent music then maybe I'd give them a chance.

July 16, 200817 yr I'm a McFly fan! I have been to see them on tour several times. There are little bits that annoy me about them in their personality and also their desperate attempts at number 1 are embarrassing too but overall they are certainly better than people give them credit for. Looking forward to the new album!
July 16, 200817 yr WHAT  I'm not a fervent hater of McFly or anything but to call them the '21st century Beatles' is ridiculous :drama: You cant be serious  I meant sales wise. They have had the same amount of success the Beatles probably had. I didn't mean they sounded like them, sorry if i said something stupid  Edited July 16, 200817 yr by Ross

July 16, 200817 yr I personally like them. In fact i've liked pretty much everything they have released. I think they are very under-rated and I don't know why there is so much hate towards them when there are way more acts out there that are less talented than them.
July 17, 200817 yr One For The Radio is a good song i'll give them that but most og their last songs have been awful (Transylvania anyone) and just embarrasing chart runs. :o :drama: Transylvanias one of my faves i was gutted it didn't get the lead single when it was double A'd with the awful Babys Coming Back - My least fave McFly track
July 17, 200817 yr I personally like them. In fact i've liked pretty much everything they have released. I think they are very under-rated and I don't know why there is so much hate towards them when there are way more acts out there that are less talented than them. Talent means nothing. Manufactured or not, if they're promoted right people will like them and people like manufactured music, i'll admit to liking a tiny bit myself, so if you have talent these days, it doesn't really matter tbh. The thing with McFly is they have this sort of 13 year old girl image, and I think that's what puts people off liking them. You only have to listen to a few of their songs and see they're marketed towards a young audience, I mean the 5 Colours video was shot PURELY to attract young girls to like them, and you can tell that by just about every scene in the video. Nowadays they're getting a bit more mature with their music though, but once you're given an image it's hard to shrug off no matter how good you are. McFly trying to shed their teenage girl image is just the same as Charlie Simpson trying to shed his pop image and reality TV winners trying to shed that image. It takes time. People also show a dislike to McFly because of the tactics they've used to get #1 records - they do kinda cheat, which takes it away from other acts who want #1 records also, and maybe they don't have too good sales, but at the end of the day they can say they've had X number of #1 singles and regardless of the sales, that's something to be proud of. I can see why people can be put off by them because of their fans too (i'm the same), but none of my friends have been McFly fans (well bar one) so i've never had to come across the mad fans, who I agree, if they're stupid enough, can put you off liking the actual band. As for them being arrogant too, well I can kinda relate to that because if I were in that position at that age i'd probably be exactly the same... boys will be boys afterall.
July 17, 200817 yr I honestly have no idea why they're hated so much on here  Especially considering a lot of the music that gets praised beyond belief on here deserves bashing a lot more imo -_- I've always been a big fan of them simply because I think they make great music (though I do admit I started paying attention them because of the whole Busted connection) I've also seen them live and managed to look at Tom and LIVE :o I do wonder why Danny is slowly talking into Johnny Borrell though  I'm also on their mailing list and once got woken by a text message that started with 'Hello it's Danny from McFly' Amusing and annoying at the same time! I think Josh summed up the possible reasons why some people don't like them above perfectly however.
July 17, 200817 yr I meant sales wise. They have had the same amount of success the Beatles probably had. I didn't mean they sounded like them, sorry if i said something stupid  But McFly don't have high sales.

The media as a whole seems to be liking them a bit more than they used to after having shoved the Record Label. Interesting little piece from the Daily Star: MCFLY have revealed the real reason they dumped their record company – bosses wanted to turn them into a chill-out act. The pop foursome, who are heading for No 1 with the first single on their own newly-started label, refused to get serious. Frontman Tom Fletcher told me: “We felt that we had creative differences and in terms of the record label that we were just going through the motions. “It was the same cycle every time you release a single or album. “We always wanted to be bigger and better and we never felt that we had achieved our true potential so we felt that we could get closer to achieving that on our own. “They (Universal) wanted to take us in a direction that we really didn’t want to go in. “They wanted us to be a bit more chilled-out and more subdued, but that is not who we are. “We like having a laugh and felt we were being pushed in a direction that we really didn’t want to go in.” Single One For The Radio isn’t even the best track on their new album Radio:Active, reckons Tom. He continued: “We have got much better songs but we felt that this one had a bit of a statement. “Once you have finished making an album it is handed over to your record label, who then control how it is marketed. “We felt that we could create a better team of people that are really enthusiastic.” Obviously a lot of people will listen to their new album with the Mail on Sunday too. Do people reckon they might shove that teenage girl image they have a little? Thing is though, yes, they've left the label that made them do stupid text deals with most recently about 18 available at once, made them release a greatest hits album and all the other stupid stuff, but this week McFly on their own have decided to go for the 3 for £4 deal, making them still look desperate. I actually think that although the single has done well so far airplay wise and midweek chart, although OFTR makes a statement they should have gone for another song. Some McFly fans really let the whole fanbase down though. I remember seeing some girl on the North West news screaming her heart out and crying like a baby when she looked about 18. She then started screaming "DOUGIE SAID HE LOVED ME HE SAID HE LOVED ME AND TOUCHED MY ARM OMG!" That was almost enough to put anyone off being a fan. Though those news articles etc. always like to film the overly crazy ones, annoyingly.
July 17, 200817 yr McFly are bollocks, the sooner they disband the better. Tom is a smug arsehole who needs to be shot out of a cannon into the sun. EUGH, HIS MASSIVE CHIN IS OFFPUTTING. Luckily, I havent heard One For the Radio yet, but it'll probably sound like EVERY OTHER RECORD THEY'VE EVER MADE.
