Posted July 20, 200816 yr Ok, as I am a huge fan of the 90s and have been on a big 90s kick this week, I was inspired to start this topic. This is the era I truly grew up with music and most of my favourite songs come from this decade, and I like pretty much 99% of them. I've looked at my 90s playlist and picked out a selection of my favourites, of all genres and varieties. Forgive the odd cheesy inclusion or two. :P Add your favourite 90s videos to this topic whenever you feel inspired to! :D The Cardigans - My Favourite Game styYbRWQYP8 Everything But The Girl - Wrong B6xlAlsDf2I Supergrass - Richard III (I was going to go with 'Sun Hits The Sky', but it was bad quality) ISHulhCmVb4 Massive Attack - Angel jZsHNkAJBDU Placebo - Pure Morning jQQmAP9Poo4 Five - Everybody Get Up (Don't judge me! It's ace) u8JC7cWM6zg Daft Punk - Da Funk gQUIBJ_jYTU Portishead - Only You 1PnNrtUTwa4 Garbage - Push It z-CHEnJ7gnc System F - Out Of The Blue DQhMVUcsV0U Sneaker Pimps - 6 Underground rrvk1bmTayg The Orb - Toxygene xTy4-OjscAQ The Bluetones - If... July 20, 200816 yr The 90s remains my favourite era, although I'm sure a lot of people would rather see it completely forgotten and buried. I think it really comes down to your age, and when you first started getting into music. That period of time always remains your favourite, and you become nostalgic for it.
July 20, 200816 yr I was born in 69 but I loved the 90s because my favourite kind if music - indie - went overground and so many good bands could be heard. So Placebo, Cardigans, Supergrass, Pulp etc were brilliant. As were some of the dance. Brill ambient stuff like The Orb and terrific and intelligent dance bands like Underworld and Spooky and Ultramarine. Not the cheesy chart fodder Europap stuff. Christ even Chemical Brothers and Prodigy had #1s. The 90s were great. Just like the 80s. Just like every decade. Edited July 20, 200816 yr by grebo69
July 20, 200816 yr I think it really comes down to your age, and when you first started getting into music. That period of time always remains your favourite, and you become nostalgic for it. thats it in a nutshell... every generation adopts 'their' music and regards it as 'the best'. i hated the early 90's, there wasnt much around of the flavour that i could relate to nor like. but like every era in music, there was good and bad. the 90's is the decade that got me into dance music, which id always detested before (70's disco, the fashion, the music, just wasnt my scene, this lasted into the 80's). i also enjoyed the 'britpop' scene as it was the latest incarnation of my fav musical style... 60's mod. however, as the decade rolled on dance/trance became my favourite genre, so tough titty! i like euro dance (but not 2 unlimited, ian van dahl) . LOVE SYSTEM F ...out of the blue, that and the likes of the often mentioned 'cafe del mar' , paul van dyk, ferry corsten etc.
July 20, 200816 yr btw... good idea for a thread as us old grumps often look past the 90's in favour of 60's or 'punk era'.

July 20, 200816 yr Early 90s was fabulous for me with the advent of grunge - a perfect mix of metal and punk. Then there was shoegazing and the t-shirt band scene with Ned's, PWEI, Carter etc. After 97 was dire though. Edited July 20, 200816 yr by grebo69
July 20, 200816 yr Early 90s was fabulous for me with the advent of grunge - a perfect mix of metal and punk. Then there was shoegazing and the t-shirt band scene with Ned's, PWEI, Carter etc. thats where we differ, them acts never appealed to me, but hey - ho... viva la difference!
July 20, 200816 yr I was born in 1983, so the 1990s pretty much soundtracked my childhood. It's the early 90s, however, that ticks all the right boxes for me. I appreciate I'm on my own with this opinion however, as a lot of the stuff was dirge, single sales were extremely low etc. Anyway, I have to strongly admire your choices - it's very diverse. I'm gonna do one as diverse as possible, although it will be very dance-orientated, but I will endeavour to do my best!
July 20, 200816 yr 01 : Zoe "Sunshine On A Rainy Day" (1991) oSJdCvHieds One hit wonder! But what a one hit wonder!!! A real end-of-night classic. 02 : Betty Boo "Where Are You baby" (1990) O26snSXNKLQ Ah yes! Gotta have a bit of the Boo! 03 : En Vogue "My Lovin" (1992) dy72lpZWtzo Balls to Spice Girls! This is TRUE girl power! The single greatest girl group ever, certainly as far as the 1990s were concerned anyway. 04 : Livin' Joy "Don't Stop Movin" (1996) GcgxOiGv6yM SURELY a 90s album would be imcomplete without a bit of cheeky piano house! A great, shortlived mid90s dance act and a lot better than the overplayed 'Dreamer' in my opinion. 05 : The Prodigy "No Good (Start The Dance)" (1994) 2bKL1ptf71M One of the greatest acts of the 90s. I went off them after 'Firestarter' however... 06 : The Chemical Brothers "Setting Sun" (1996) V7Y7fMbbaP8 I HATE anything by Oasis and anything associated with them... apart from this! For one pure moment, this united the club and indie scene AND a number one hit! 07 : Massive Attack Ft Tracy Thorn "Protection" (1995) UIp--5E3AbY I will resist 'Unfinished Sympathy', and choose this. The video itself is genius and Tracy's melancholy vocals really get under your skin. 08 : Garbage "I Think I'm Paranoid" (1998) rpRiSb_Ir-s I've never been into indie/rock and especially when it comes from the US. But I was well into Garbage and this was their finest moment, before they ran out of steam into the 00s. 09 : M-People "How Can I Love You More" (1993) nUtBdpK0CtA The act that soundtracked to middle-ageing house. But looking back, 'How Can I Love You More' still holds VERY well as a club and pop track - it pretty much is due to the remix that was made by Sasha, as heard on here. 10 : Shakesphere's Sister "Stay" (1992) epvU973_oTI This is my guilty pleasure of the 90s! Here is the French + Saunders version for you! 11 : Bjork "Venus As A Boy" (1993) 7Z5aPaDwAkU A 90s retrospective needs a bit of the kooky Icelandic genius. Could've picked a fair few of her others, but this is such a beautiful track. 12 : Kylie "Better The Devil You Know" (1990) spyyKkOK20I Naturally...
