Something to watch for fun...

In my opinion, you can watch this million times and you won't be 100% sure who won.

The best decision would be that they gave two gold medals.

I think it's impossible to tell really and they do look like they touched it at exactly the same time, which is near enough true as there was something like one onehunderth of a second in it wasn't there? I still think Phelps got the touch first though, I thought it when I watched it live and I still think it now. :P

I'm surprised at you of all people are saying something like this tbh.... These are related issues... "Undesirables" (ie, black immigrants and gay people) are being rounded up and interned because of the Olympics... The whole reason is to keep these "undesirables" off the streets lest they 'spoil' China's "perfect" games.... The farical Opening Ceremony as well, with the girl lip-synching and the kids supposedly representing China's ethnic make-up, but actually all being part of the same Chinese ethnic group - again, how is this NOT related to the Games themselves.... These games are a lie from beginning to end, and the athletes are part of the lie insofar as they are being used by the Chinese authorities as propaganda tools.... Their achievments are tainted by the fact that they are being used as tools.... Once they see the truth of what's really going on (because, let's face it, they're probably being shielded from all these stories and are having the truth kept from them while they're there...), I wouldn't be at all surprised if many of them seriously considered handing their medals back or chucking them in the nearest bin... I know I would.....

I honestly dont know how you people can just sit and mindlessly enjoy this disgusting spectacle knowing what it's costing the ordinary person in China whether indigenous Chinese or immigrant....

i said that i dont agree with china getting the games.. but they ARE there and the athletes are competeing and out of respect for them i have no problem watching the games. its a lost cause, my not watching will make no difference, if there had been a big protest then id join in... but there isnt, and i dont feel in any way resposible for all the worlds wo's.

Phelps defiantly got the touch.

That is exactly why you are always told to finish on a full stroke and not a glide, you have far more power and speed hitting the pad on a full stroke. Omega pads are known for being pads that you have to hit hard. especially at the Scottish nationals, hit it lightly and it won't register.

but they ARE there and the athletes are competeing and out of respect for them i have no problem watching the games.

If you actually thought about it though, you'd see that you're actually dis-respecting them by not caring, they were put under duress and pressure by our own Govt and sporting authorities who SHOULD have told the Chinese to go to hell when they made those demands; and also disrespecting the spirit of the Games themselves by watching this farce and contributing to the viewing figures...

I just dunno how the fukk ANYONE can talk about "sport" in the face of these LEGIONS of disgusting human rights violations.. We placed economic, political and sporting sanctions on South Africa for doing considerably LESS things than the Chinese authorities have done.... We are all such fukkin' hypocrites..... <_<

EXACTLY!.... you cant boycott everything from everywhere that has a poor human rights record... there are atrocities going on in nearly every country in some form.

anyway, this thread/forum is about the games, not chinas human rights/wrongs.

a 12th gold! :cheer: our athletes are doing a sterling job and it looks like all that lottery cash is begining to pay off!

Yes, that time exactly. But I'm asking myself what's that really? Can anybody show that onehunderth of a second with two hands?

And, how funny, I though that Cavic was first and I still do. But, we have to admit, we can't see that with normal eyes. To see that, we need much bigger technology. -_- Two gold medals was the best solution. -_- I even read they were thinking about that.

And one more thing, I read today that Cavic finished the race like swimmer should do that, in straight position of body, while Phelps was scared he'll lose it and tried everything he could do to touch wall first.

I think it started to pay-off in Sydney in 2000 (11 golds compared to 1 in Atlanta), not now.

There was loads of lottery funding piled in recently, way more compared to before. I think in Atlanta we must have been unlucky

They don't fund minor sports or winter sports though -_-

But wouldn't you?

Did I say I wouldn't? :P Everybody would. I was just saying one fact.

it aint what the athletes are saying... especially the cyclists who point to the state of the art velodrome in manchester..

we have a 13th gold! :)

2 silvers and a gold guaranteed in the cycling. We rule at the veladrome!

phelps had greater speed and power coming into the finish and Omega pads award that kind of finish.

And as a swimmer personally i have been taught to finish on a full stroke, like phelps did, at like every one of my clubs and trust me i've been to quite a few.

Very few as obvious as China.... I would say that the Chinese Govt is far worse an abuser than Mugabe, Saddam, Burma or Ahmadinejad.... In fact, I'd say they are worse than Bin Laden or the Taliban.... North Korea??? Probably worse than those as well......

So, Iran, Burma, North Korea, Tora Bora or Zimbabwe for Olympics 2016 anyone......????? -_-

15 Gold, 9 Silver and 8 Bronze. Are we amazing or what? :o
15 Gold, 9 Silver and 8 Bronze. Are we amazing or what? :o

Don't want to sound cocky but we are  . The performance of the British this year is phenomenal, we're just 3 medals from the "low" target of 35 and 9 off the "high" target and 5 places higher than the medal table position target (thats probably because of Russia's floppy performance and that we've got way more golds than expected which matter way more than the Bronze and Silvers

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :cheer:

make that 16 golds... ohurougu has just won womens 400m :cheer: what a race! she was way down with 100 to go,.

and a silver in the mens high jump...

excellant!

:w00t:

more monies for the "unimportant" sports of Swimming, Track and Field, Cycling and Sailing

hopefully we'll see some more coverage of these sports on the TV

Those definately aren't unimportant, they're one of the biggest sports in Britain, the only reason why we're not winning loads of medals in athletics is because other countries are better than us. Sailing is only minor because its expensive to do, so there's a "hardcore" group of sailors.

Shame i missed the 400m, i'm sure it'll be on youtube in a few minutes though :P

i hope...

you cant see the golden league athletics on tv at all... the bbc cover domestic which is ok, eurosport often cover the minor athletics meets, but the major ones arnt on. this frustrates me, especially when you are watching a minor meet and the comentators are telling us how good the golden league meeting was..... <_<
