Here come`s Friday Night, on the 8th day/of the 8th month/of the year 08/at 8pm. A lot to do, so no messing (with no Trevs this week). The up to date charts, from the film world, dvd world, album world, and singles world..add in some oldies from 1983, and you`ve got the perfect read for a Friday night! :D

Here come the top films this week: (Compiled by Screen International, for UK Box Office)

w/k ending 15th Aug 2008

01 01 DARK NIGHT

02 02 MAMMA MIA

03 03 WALL.E

04 NE I WANT TO BELIEVE (X FILES)

05 04 ANGUS, THONGS AND PERFECT SNOGGING

06 06 KUNG FU PANDA

07 NE SPACE CHIMPS

08 NE THE LOVE GURU

09 05 HANCOCK

10 07 JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH

The Dark Knight manages to take £25,374,829 in 2 weeks. While new entrants: I Want To Believe takes £887,209..Space Chimps takes £563,543..The Love Guru takes £498,829. What is the best film to go and see, I thought? Possibly Kung Fu Panda, or Space Chimps. Not to fond of the Mamma Mia film. The Stage version is much better. Notice that "One Of Us", appears in the Stage Production, but not in the shortened film version (a shame on it`s own).

Here are the top dvd films: (Compiled from dvd rentals/sales across the UK)

01 NE VANTAGE POINT

02 01 27 DRESSES

03 02 10,000 BC

04 03 STEP UP TO THE STREETS

05 04 THE ORPHANAGE

06 05 SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES

07 NE HOW SHE MOVE

08 06 THE GAME PLAN

09 07 DRILLBIT TAYLOR

10 RE THERE WILL BE BLOOD

Vantage Point the top sales, and rental film dvd.

Someone said the other day, "What about the tv related dvds?" Well, it`s a seperate chart, but here they are:

01 DOCTOR WHO-SERIES 4 VOL. 3

02 HEROES-SEASON 2

03 WWW BACKLASH 2008

04 STARGATE ATLANTIS-SEASON 4 VOL. 5

05 DOCTOR WHO-BRAIN OF MORBIUS 1976

06 FRASIER-SEASON 10

07 FUTURAMA-BEAST WITH A BILLION BACKS

08 TOP GEAR-THE CHALLENGES VOL. 2

09 STARGATE ATLANTIS-SEASON 4

10 X FILES-THE ESSENTIALS

None of those would appear in my collection, apart from the original (and best) Doctor Who series. Even though I would probably just watch the repeats, on UK Drama in the early hours of the morning!

Here is the ridiculously over garbage that is Top TV today :puke2:: (Compiled by BARB, with only the top-rated soap showings included)

01 01 CORONATION STREET 9.30M

19 15 FLASHDANCE - OST/VARIOUS

20 23 HITS ON FIRE - VARIOUS

Paul Young finally hit the big time, as a solo artist in 1983 (following Streetband, and the Q Tips). You may have seen Michael Jackson`s/Jacksons album advertised all over the tv in 1983 (alongside the Coronation Street story, that gave us the end of Len Fairclough, and a few months later the end of Elsie Tanner). Elvis Costello spent part of 1983 as "the Imposter", along with the single "Pills And Soap". "Everyday I Write The Book", was in Mr Costello`s own name (not his real name, for he was really Declan McManus). ELTON JOHN may have been a bit annoyed with the NME in 1983, as they called his album "Too LATE For Zero", and it was actually "Too LOW For Zero". The Beach Boys had their Greatest hits (another double album, hevily tv advertised), 17 years after the classic "Pet Sounds". Flashdance was the big summer film (without Irene Cara). Hits On Fire, was the latest other VA Compilation (about the only one in the top 50).

Shall we remember the 1983 singles chart? Here it is:

01 01 WHEREVER I LAY MY HAT - PAUL YOUNG

02 08 GIVE IT UP - KC AND THE SUNSHINE BAND

03 02 IOU - FREEEZ

04 04 DOUBLE DUTCH - MALCOM MCCLAREN

38 26 WAR BABY - TOM ROBINSON

39 47 WALKING IN THE RAIN - MODERN ROMANCE

40 NE BAD DAY - CARMEL

Just 6 new entries in 1983`s chart. Noteably: Gold - Spandau Ballet was an MRIB Number One. Back on the Paul Young story..Wherever I Lay My Hat was actually a Marvin Gaye "B" side in 1969 on "Too Busy Thinkin`About My Baby". KC and the Sunshine Band returned..under Harry Wayne Casey (who also penned many a George McCrae song). It was vowels with Freeez..yep V.O.W.E.Ls. The Crown, and Gary Byrd lasted over 6 minutes, and featured Stevie Wonder. The Style Council gave us a summer classic, as did Wham. Elton John gave us the 2nd offering from the album. Big names Robert Plant (of Led Zeppelin), and Bruce Foxton (of the Jam), gave some solo material. Shame that Bruce`s "Freak", stalled at 22. Shakin`Stevens sung Ricky Nelson..Did Shakin`Stevens ever sing his own song?!! Herbie Hancock supplied the mainly instrumental "Rockit". Mike Oldfield had guest vocals, from Maggie Reilly..who also sung on the other hit "To France". The Creatures was Siouxie Sioux, of Siouxie and the Banshees. Tracie broke away from the Style Council, and gave us 2 hits "Give It Some Emotion", and The House That Jack Built". Clubhouse brought a medley of Steely Dan, and Michael Jackson..big promise that quickly fell down the chart. Roman Holiday, and the Lotus Eaters also looked promising, but did not get in the top 10. The Cure were doing good, as we awaited the follow up "The Love Cats". Kraftwerk, were riding bicycles. George Benson covered Roberta Flack. Level 42, finally got a fair-sized hit. David Grant went solo, after being the lead with Linx, and Modern Romance actually sang a decent sentimental song (for the last top 40 hit).

Compare the top tv shows, this week in 1983:

01 CORONATION STREET (MON) 13.3M

02 CORONATION STREET (WEDS) 12.2M

03 CROSSROADS (MON) 10.1M

04 THE KRYPTON FACTOR 10.0M

05 CROSSROADS (TUES) 9.7M

06 CROSSROADS (WEDS) 9.5M

07 THE A TEAM 9.4M

08 WHERE THERE`S LIFE 9.3M

09 WINNER TAKES ALL 9.2M

10 THE HAPPY APPLE 9.1M

All those programmes were on ITV. The Krypton Factor Mondays 7pm, Where There`s Life Wednesday 7pm, Winner Takes All Fridays 7pm...Emmerdale was only on Tuesday, and Thursday (as Emmerdale Farm). BBC1 had Top Of The Pops on 6.8m million on a Thursday night at 7.30, followed by Fame at 8.10pm. Most of the BBC top shows were the News (9 o, clock, Saturday News and Sport). Only Fools And Horses got 7.6 million, but a John Wayne film "Eldorado", got 8.2 million. That was the tv, during the summer, so there wasn`t that much on. The Autumn line-up was blockbusting solid entertainment with: Blankety Blank (Terry Wogan), Late Late Breakfast Sow (Noel Edmonds), Juliet Bravo (crime drama), Bergerac, Three Of A Kind (Tracey Ullman, Lenny Henry, and David Copperfield), Morecambe And Wise (the final ITV series, before Eric`s passing), The Benny Hill Show, The Winds Of War, and the fantastically hilarious sitcom "Keep It In The Family", with Robert Gillespie, Stacy Dorning (of Black Beauty fame), and Sabina Franklin (the late William`s daughter). Unfortunately the Americans rather liked this one, it was written by Brian Cooke (who also wrote "Man About The House", along with Johnny Mortimer)..In America it was re-made it as "Too Close For Comfort", which wasn`t a patch on the original, mainly because it featured some chap called "Munro", who was cast as what can only be described as a loony! In the ITV original the main character "Dudley" (Robert Gillespie) worked for a man called "Duncan", as a cartoonist, for a comic. In the American version, U.S. comedian Ted Knight, worked for himsellf, doing a comic strip called "Cosmic Cow". Outrageously in "Too Close For Comfort", the wife of Ted Knight`s character has a baby (rather hard to believe because both her other daughters, were heading towards 20 years of age)! This U.S. programme was actually shown in Britain, on Channel 4 in 1984, and also appeared on Thames tv, at 3.30am, during the late 80s. Over on Breakfast tv, TVam`s audience grew by 52%..Why was this? Well, it was this character who said stuff like "Hi Rat fans"..Yep, it was Roland Rat (who practically kept TVam alive, until the BBC poached Roland in 1986!

I`m going to take 5, but I will be back shortly, so (in Trevs words)..Hang Around Folks ;)
