towards U2!!! They're not as good as that - they're like the nü Big Country for the ketamine generation :( (sorry to any fans of Big Country if they are actually better than that old ep of the tube on more4 the other month made them out to be - and not wanting to speak ill of the dead even if that dude is one of the manic street preacher's guitar hero!!!)

..then again maybe we should mention glasvegas at this point

I love the way Kele shows so much emotion when he sings 'Signs'. His vocals are pretty near perfect too.

I do love Bloc Party, but your comparison of the to U2 is near-on perfect!

Ugh no, U2 are horrible.

...this.

The comparison with U2 is awful. :o Blasphemy!

Singles rank, as a few people did one. :P

Banquet

Helicopter

The Pioneers

I Still Remember

Hunting For Witches

She's Hearing Voices

Tulips

Talons

Two More Years

Flux

The Prayer

Little Thoughts

Mercury

So Here We Are (by about a million miles, absolutely horrible)

They're incredibly similar to U2. Obviously different generations but both bands utilize the same fanbase by using the same tricks: softly political lyrics, punchy choruses and deep deep inoffensiveness. Bloc Party as a musical vessel do not do anything and have not progressed since 'Silent Alarm' (an excellent album I will admit). Henceforth they have stuck to the same dusty pastiche (with the exception of 'Flux'). Everything since their debut has been so...wet. They are nice enough tunes but certainly nothing memorable. Much the same is true of U2.

There'll come a time in the next 5 years when Bloc Party will become "dad rock"; in much the same way U2 are now perceived. I'd bet money on it.

I'm sorry I just don't see it. The lyrics on Intimacy are certainly not political in anyway as far as I can tell and as for punchy choruses, since when was that a bad thing :|

Bloc Party clearly aren't really behind the times they just seem to be doing their own thing and while Silent Alarm may still be their best album, although Intimacy is gaining rapidly IMO, they have progressed as a band and have tried new things with every release which is comendable and haven't stuck to the same thing as you so falsely state.

Dad-rock in the next five years.....yeh.....

that is complete bollocks to be honest, even AWITC was a progression into more thoughtful songwriting, and more massive type songs raher than on SA when they were prtty much the average indie band but a bit better, and now with Itimacy (and Flux) they have progressed even further by making more dance orientated music and experimenting with more instruments, and i would'nt be shocked in a few albums time they had progressed into something completly differecnt but still brilliant.

My physical came today hooray!!

Mine still hasn't arrived :(

Hopefully I'll get it tomorrow!

And as for this whole "debate", agree completely with Chris and Ashford -_-

^^ Ok that was a lie - I wasn't here yesterday, I just looked and mine HAS arrived! :w00t:

Love the casing/ packaging -_-

What do people think of the tracks on the deluxe edition?

I really love 'Your Visits Are Getting Shorter' but don't get 'Letter To My Son' at all :(

Which is a shame, because I was really looking forward to these extra ones! YVAGS is probably one of my favourites from Intimacy now, although I suppose time will tell...

I didn't like Mercury that much at the beginning and now I f***ing love it, so that might be the same for LTMS.

After hearing the clips on iTunes...

I like the sound of:

Your Visits are Getting Shorter

Halo

Trojan Horse & Talons sound Tolerable...

But the rest don't do anything for me I'm afraid -_-

I agree. ;o Silent Alarm was fantastic, but they've just gone downhill since then tbh. I liked a couple of tracks on AWITC, but Intimacy is just a complete let down. Hardly like any songs on it. Mercury is kinda biting which is nice but the album is just dull and boring imo.

What happened to them ugh? D: They used to be so good. Bar Flux all of their recent efforts just dissapoint.

Just listening to their older stuff (Skeleton, Staying Fat, Little Thoughts, Banquet, Helicopter, Positive Tension), and then listening to Intimacy...it really just can't even compare. :/

I think they've got better and better since Silent Alarm.

Of the three, SA is my least favourite, with Intimacy being favourite (I think, although it's a close call with AWITC)

I love their more experimental stuff, which seems to be their new sound. It shows how they've evolved as a band since the first album, which is something that doesnt happen very often these days - artists just stick to a formula which obviosly worked for their previous albums.

Are we listening to the same band here? because I have to disagree with that
