To Be Honest I don't think that listening to 40+ songs is a very pleasant time spending :heehee:

Why cant there just be one round and the winner decided from there? I dont see the point in revoting and going through basically the same thing twice. That way it will be much more exciting and the contest wont fade because waiting week after week is kind of a mood kill

I agree with Pavel, having to listen to 40+ new songs in the same day potentially 2 or 3 times, unless you only vote based on one listen, would be a bit of a mountain to climb...

anyway, I think it forces people to choose better songs if you have to go through a semi to get to the final

I agree, the semis these days are bigger than the final of BJSC IV was. :o It must be a bit gutting to finish first in your semi but not in the final because there was a time when finishing 1st out of 21 countries was enough to win the whole thing.

The thing with semis is that the final is always of much better quality, the likelihood of the lowest points scored record broken is almost zero now because to get to the final in the first place you have to appeal to a lot of people in your semi.

I always did 5 days I think when I hosted, because I felt like it really dragged on otherwise...

I think some other hosts may have given less time, maybe 3 days for the semi-votes in some contests :o

I don't think it really matters if the official confirmation thread opens after this contest finishes for two reasons

1) The temporary confirmation thread was very confusing and led some people to think they had already confirmed their song officially

2) If, like I think we are, implementing the rule that you have to send the first song you confirm then there should be no problems, people will be more careful picking their entry, and I don't think there will be as many early confirmations, as people will know that whatever you pick you have to stick to

Hmmm, I'm a tad apprehensive about implementing the rule about the first song confirmation...I think it would be much more sensible to just stop odds threads from being opened until the confirmation thread closes, as that stops the flip-flopping as people enter something else to test the waters...it would be ridiculously restrictive to limit people to their first choice, and if anything I think it would just encourage people to leave it to the last minute, turning the reservations system into an absolute nightmare, as they wait to make sure that they don't find anything killer until the last moment. As with the anti-big artists rule, I think discouragement rather than an outright ban is the way to go about it...

yes, Sanna was particularly displeased with winning her semi-final and then finishing only 4th in the final :smoke:

what surprised me is Margaret Berger came 3rd in the semi that Sanna won :o

which is why I always think the hosts are most likely to finish last, they have no pre-final support

it's a hard one to call...personally, I think if you are putting something in an 'Official confirmation thread' then it should be official. Full stop.

a lot of people hate the confusion of the temporary threads, perhaps we should have a vote on it and see how many people want a temporary thread, and how many people just want an official thread!?!

I don't think there's much need for a temporary thread, perhaps restricting it to a maximum of two changes but strongly discouraging changing would be a better idea?

Daft Punk have last in the bag in this one! :P

not necessarily  Kylienips managed top 5 finishes with some very cheap well known entries :kink:

maybe, but most people won't care about discouragement, if they want to send a big name act they will, and if they want to change their entry 15 times they will, the only people it seems to annoy is the host and the mods :heehee:

It was a very close semi though, there was one point between Sanna, The Veronicas and Margaret so it could have gone either way when you added all the other voters, as it did. If I won a semi of this size, I'd consider that an unofficial win because it's essentially two mini contests and they're big than a previous final has been.

In a way the hosts have the safest and riskiest times with their song. They get a free ticket to the final but they also have no idea whether people will like their song. I like the idea of tagging your own entry onto the end of the recap video, I don't know who started that, I think it was Tom.

I know the temporary confirmation thread is confusing but surely we need some sort of place for people to clarify who they are currently using, until they actually confirm their entry.

I've always felt that the first song officially confirmed should be the one entered, but I sense that won't be happening.

It didn't register as a win of any sort to me  but perhaps that's because my country already won a (smaller) final in the past!

I also thought Tom has been very clever promoting his entry, Thermostatic got no support from me as I was busy with all the hosting duties, I completely forgot to promote my entry, I don't think they even had a prominent place in my signature, I had the contest logo, and then one line at the bottom saying 'vote for Thermostatic'

if I ever host again, my entry will get the full attention it deserves :heehee:

I don't regret sending Driving though, I love it, and it was a good risk for Rontvia to take, a good break from the pop

well don't call it 'temporary confirmation thread' then, call it something like 'Who do you plan to use in BJSCXI?'...it's more informal and people won't get confused thinking they've already confirmed their song

Yeah sounds good. I suppose it's not really confirmation anyway; more like reservation.

yeah, I have 2 songs now, both very different, I'm leaning 80/20 over to one song because although I like them the same amount, I don't think one of them would do well on here at all...but then, everytime I try to send an entry I think will do well, it backfires, and everytime I send an entry I think will do alright (I had predicted top 15 for Sanna at best) it does brilliantly

Just means more people in the other semi liked Margaret :o

yeah, Margaret doubled her points in the final, Sanna picked up about 30 :heehee:
