Posted September 1, 200816 yr Indie/Alternative Multichart [Week 26 - 31st August 2008] Boy was it tight at the top this week as 6 points separated the Top 3. Mercury just held on to register week 3 at the top but they could so easily be toppled by Biffy Clyro or Glasvegas next week. Will Oasis improve on their #13 entry and challenge for the Top? Tune in next week to see what happens! (01) 01. Mercury - Bloc Party (07-08-04-07-01-01-01) (09) 02. Daddy's Gone - Glasvegas (08-04-09-02) (02) 03. September 7, 200816 yr Please can you edit your chart next time so it includes only indie songs. What? Hmmm do you know what 'indie' music stands for? I would understand if you removed Madonna from the list but looking at the rest of my chart I can't really see any others. If I take some examples of records you removed.... Liz Green, Rex The Dog, Roots Manuva, James Pants - you can't really get any more independant than these.. I am guessing you are using schoolboy logic in thinking that independent means bands with guitars..... Pah!
September 7, 200816 yr Author I don't think so. I think I have included a wide range of songs and artists. But this is indie/alternative as a genre not as non-major label (I am not having an argument over what is indie here) and that doesn't include reggae and some out and out dance. A line has to be drawn somewhere and if you don't like it then don't post. Schoolboy logic indeed! I also ask the people who contribute to this chart what they think and go with the consensus. I listened to every single band on your list and made a decision after hearing them. Adele and Alphabeat are not indie in any way shape or form. TBH I could not find a Liz Green track. James Pants are White Boys playing 80s funk pop so if you think that's indie then bully for you. This bit is for everyone: Should dance bands like Pendulum be included in the chart or should it just be boys (and girls!) with guitars? Edited September 7, 200816 yr by grebo69
September 7, 200816 yr I dont really think Pendulum are an Indie/alternative band tbh, how ever genre crossing and amazing they are.
September 7, 200816 yr Author What about Cut Copy and Cyrstal Castles? What about Linkin Park and bands like Slipknot - are they alternative? Should I just change this to the alternative multichart?
September 7, 200816 yr I'd say Cut Copy and Crystal Castles are alternative. Slipknot are more metal But that's just my opinion -_-
September 7, 200816 yr I would say Cut Copy definatly are, and Crystal Castles only just pass, Slipknot however metal but it depends how extensive you want to make the chart, i dont see Linkin Park as alternative personally either, unless you make it the Indie/Alternative/Rock chart, theres alot of punk stuff on my chart i dont include also.
September 7, 200816 yr Author I have been thinking about making it a alternative/rock chart lately but I would only do it if I had general agreement from this forum.
September 7, 200816 yr I think that sometimes there is a fine line between indie/ alternative/ rock anyway, so I think adding rock to the title would be fine
September 7, 200816 yr with rock, would metal and punk bands fit to, or would that be going to far into it?
September 7, 200816 yr Author Nope I would consider it to be punk and metal as well. What I am concerned about is that the focus of the chart would be too diluted so that with the number of votes we usually get would we have a meaningful chart? I can pull together roughly 10 charts if I go looking for some of them but if rock/punk/metal was included would the Top 20 get enough points.
