Posted September 2, 200817 yr Perry poised to equal longest 2008 run at one 11:12 | Tuesday September 2, 2008 By Paul Williams Source: MW Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl looks on target this coming weekend to become the third hit this year to spend a fifth week at number one as it continues to hold off a challenge from Eric Prydz (pictured). Early retail sales reveal the Virgin-issued single is comfortably ahead of Prydz’ Data single Pjanoo with Def Jam/Mercury’s Rihanna with Disturbia the next nearest challenger. If Perry does hold on at one she will equal the longest stay at the top this year of five weeks, previously achieved by Now You’re Gone by Basshunter featuring DJ Mental Theo and Duffy’s Mercy. Polydor act the Pussycat Dolls’ When I Grow Up is the hot favourite to be this Sunday’s highest new entry and is presently challenging for a top-five debut. Hollywood/Universal’s Miles Cyrus will break into the Top 20 with her single See You Again, which climbed last Sunday to 23, while her album Breakout is part of a three-way battle to claim highest new entry honours on the artist albums chart. The other challengers here are the Chemical Brothers with their new Virgin retrospective Brotherhood – The Definitive Singles and Motorhead with the SPV-issued Motorizer. Whichever album finishes on top, none of these challengers are likely to affect the key positions on the albums chart where The Verve’s comeback album for Parlophone, Forth, looks likely to spent a second week at one. With Roadrunner act Slipknot’s album All Hope Is Gone quickly losing momentum, having debuted at two last week, a handful of albums have overtaken it on sales this week. These include Phonogenic/RCA’s self-titled debut by The Script and Sony BMG’s Michael Jackson best of King Of Pop. In addition to The Verve, Parlophone is expected to claim a second album in the Top 10 with Coldplay’s Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends returning to the leading positions. Lower down, expect new entries from Big Dada’s Roots Manuva, UCJ’s City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, Brian Wilson with his Capitol return That Lucky Old Sun and XL’s Friendly Fires. September 2, 200817 yr Got to be honest, I'd love Eric Prydz or Rihanna to climb. So bored of IKAG now...
September 2, 200817 yr Remember that Eric's only been out for a week on downloads, while Katy's been there for ages, so Eric in potential has loads of fans who are only just downloading it. I just really don't want Katy to have a Crazy/Umbrella-style run at the top. If Sonny J gets in the top 40 then fantastic, loved it last year but it didn't get anywhere so would be great if it did this time!
September 2, 200817 yr looks like PCD will probs be number 3 this week then when the physical is out then it will be number 1 Edited September 2, 200817 yr by JakeyShake
September 2, 200817 yr What are City Of Prague Philmonic Orch. doing in the top 30 albums?! Glad Chicane is climbing, hope it can keep going... Edited September 2, 200817 yr by TomKay
September 2, 200817 yr Those Dolls will stall at #2 or #3 I think when the physical's out. They'd need a lot to be able to topple Katy and I just can't see it happening. The song is alright but it's nothing amazing and certainly not #1 material imo. Looks like a slow week anyhoo though glad Prydz hasn't got to the top.
September 2, 200817 yr Author Looks like a slow week anyhoo though glad Prydz hasn't got to the top. I don't think Eric Pyrdz has got a chance to be honest, his sales were no where near last week, Katy Perry has been doing between 40k-45k in the past few weeks on downloads.
