Posted September 16, 200817 yr Metallica's Magnetic attracts intense competition 10:46 | Tuesday September 16, 2008 Source: MW By Paul Williams Metallica are facing intense pressure to hold on to their position at the top of the UK artist albums chart this week from a brace of new releases from the likes of Ne-Yo, Queen/Paul Rodgers and The Streets. In its first full week on sale, the band’s Vertigo/Mercury-issued Death Magnetic is presently several thousand sales ahead, but is being pursued by Def Jam/Mercury’s new Ne-Yo album Year Of The Gentleman and Parlophone’s first studio album from the pairing of Queen and Paul Rodgers, The Cosmos Rocks. The two new albums are likely to be joined in the top five this coming Sunday by a third new album, Atlantic’s new Streets set Everything Is Borrowed. Motown/Universal Island’s Stevie Wonder best of The Definitive Collection is chasing a Top 10 place following his live UK dates last week, while outside the 10 expect new entries from Deltasonic/Columbia’s The Coral, UCJ’s Bryn Terfel, Universal Island’s Nelly, Warner Bros’s Avenged Sevenfold and David Essex with a new Sony BMG/UMTV retrospective. On the singles chart McFly are in hot pursuit of Kings Of Leon with their single Lies, released on their own Super label, set to move from its debut position of 23 last Sunday high into the top five. However, it looks highly unlikely to catch Hand Me Down/Columbia’s Kings Of Leon single Sex On Fire, which last week debuted at one. Two other tracks are looking likely to move into the Top 10 this Sunday: Atlantic-issued Cookie Jar by Gym Class Heroes featuring The Dream and Def Jam/Mercury’s Ne-Yo single Miss Independent. 19/RCA’s Will Young is expected to claim the week’s highest new entry with Changes, while other new entries to the Top 40 will include the RCA Group’s Jennifer Hudson with Spotlight. Meanwhile, MIA’s huge US hit Paper Planes should provide XL with one of the week’s fastest climbers as it progresses from its current position of 37. September 16, 200817 yr Here we are again, another week gone by already... Kings Of Leon is physically released this week, it should maintain its peak position at #1 for a second week, Katy Perry could remain stable at #2, what new singles are in store this week, physically new releases from Chris Brown, The Feeling, Ladyhawke will be trying for top 40 entries, Ne'Yo, Iglu & Harty, Flobots, Steve Mac, Basshunter will continue to climb along with McFly probably #3, further down the chart Colbie Caliat might just scrape top 40 and possibility a download entry for Jennifer Hudson. I guess you're not a Will Young fan, then? :)
September 16, 200817 yr I don't think Cliff's album is chart eligible, Martin: it has a retail price of about £100. Plus, as Vidcapper hints at: Will Young is likely to end up at least Top 5 by the end of the week on downloads only.
September 16, 200817 yr I think it'll look something like this today : 1 Kings of Leon 2 McFly 3 Katy Perry 13 Will Young 23 Jennifer Hudson
September 16, 200817 yr I guess you're not a Will Young fan, then? :) I think it's not about if he's a Will Young fan or not. He missed out by accident. Don't be paranoid
September 16, 200817 yr I reckon it will be: 01. Kings of Leon 02. Katy Perry 03. Pussycat Dolls 04. Will Young 05. Rihanna 06. McFly
September 16, 200817 yr Author I guess you're not a Will Young fan, then? :) I forgot about Will Young, I usually go by Dave's topic on a Monday to do the write up, as the topic was not posted yesterday, I temporarily forgot.

Plus, as Vidcapper hints at: Will Young is likely to end up at least Top 5 by the end of the week on downloads only. At that price I don't think anyone will buy it, clearly I was not in the right frame of mood at the time of the write up
September 16, 200817 yr I guess you're not a Will Young fan, then? :) No that's you. :) ;) I'm sure Mart!n is impatial & it was an oversight. Back to predictions: No change in the top 2 Will Young top 20 around 15. Hopefully top 10 by the weekend. Mcfly could well be top 5 if they've started their signings. September 16, 200817 yr I reckon it will be: 01. Kings of Leon 02. Katy Perry 03. Pussycat Dolls 04. Will Young 05. Rihanna 06. McFly Forgot to add, that by the end of the week i reckon Will Young will be #1 but it will be a tense battle between him and KOL
September 16, 200817 yr I forgot about Will Young, I usually go by Dave's topic on a Monday to do the write up, as the topic was not posted yesterday, I temporarily forgot. We knew you had Martin
September 16, 200817 yr Forgot to add, that by the end of the week i reckon Will Young will be #1 but it will be a tense battle between him and KOL I hope you haven't put any money on that prediction. Even as a loyal fan, I wouldn't give him a chance of being in the top5 this week, next week, with physicals who knows? :D
September 16, 200817 yr He is rapidly climbing itunes at a rate i've only seen Bleeding Love do last year - so thats why i thought he may well be #1
September 16, 200817 yr He is rapidly climbing itunes at a rate i've only seen Bleeding Love do last year - so thats why i thought he may well be #1 Not as rapid as Kings Of Leon, PCD or Katy Perry did though :)
September 16, 200817 yr To be fair, i didn't really see how they progressed up the Itunes chart, so i have no idea how to judge it. It was just a prediction
September 16, 200817 yr Hopefully McFly doesn't get the top spot :( Hopefully Will will be top5 on downloads by Sunday, but its sounds a but unlikely, I would bet low Top10 for this week, top3 next week ^^
