Posted September 18, 200816 yr I am by no means a McFly fan but I have to hand it to them and their marketing team they always manage to get their fans to multi purchase the singles and they have excelled themselves with the release of 'Lies' In week 1 they released the track as a download only with bonus video content making fans purchase the track 3 times to get the complete videos In week 2 they done 7 signings, Made the physical formats available at 3 for £4 and added a bonus b-side for download And now next week (On Sunday) they are adding 2 exclusive remixes of the song which have to be downloaded separately on I-Tunes! So potentially fans have bought the track 9 times! Will be interesting to see what the remixes next week will have on the guys chart performance - Maybe it won't drop quite as quickly?! The album is also out next week and they have 7 signings as well as offers with all the retailers (HMV - Free poster with purchase, Woolworths -Bonus 3 track CD, and competitions online with HMV and Play!) I have never seen a band so desperate for a #1!
September 18, 200816 yr If this was any other band and probably in 1999-2002 This would have been Ok but because it's McFly... Well... it's a different story! (Have we got a Yawn emoticon?)
September 18, 200816 yr Two of them are doing a signing at the HMV in my town tomorrow evening, I expect lots of screaming pre-pubescent girls in the shopping centre.
September 18, 200816 yr Gosh, they really are pushing their luck  Even with the support of Radio 1 and Radio 2, they couldn't make the top10 on Itunes, so that sum it up the whole thing really.

September 18, 200816 yr This screams DESPERATION. And please don't start attacking members with this thread topic.
September 18, 200816 yr ahh the desperation is so naff. It probably does them more harm than good. PATHETIC! I hope this album is the last we hear from them.
September 18, 200816 yr If this was Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Estelle, Amy Winehouse or any of the other BJ bum b!tches nobody at all would be complaining... :heehee:
September 18, 200816 yr Well, whatever they do to promote the song it looks like it won't be number 1. In fact it dropped to 3 today
September 18, 200816 yr what annoys me is that whatever mcfly do people slag them off if your not a fan why do you care so much what they do? They have to find some way of getting the money back from what they put into their label fans have a chance on what to buy half of them only buy 1 or 2 cds and the odd download anyway as for the album they have never done so much of a big promotion with an album plus it's not only mcfly that do it------------------ HELP TAKE THAT RULE THE WORLD!! September 18, 200816 yr If this was Girls Aloud, Sugababes, Estelle, Amy Winehouse or any of the other BJ bum b!tches nobody at all would be complaining... :heehee: Spot on. Besides this is nothing new. Back in the 1980s lot of acts released multiple versions of their new single. Examples: Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Relax & Two Tribes had multiple different versions of their singles released (especially on 12 inch vinyl) to sustain sales. And New Order's Blue Monday did the same thing. Whilst Duran Duran's Wild Boys 7 inch single was released in 5 separate versions, one with each of the members of the band on the picture sleeve. And these were just the tip of the iceberg.
September 18, 200816 yr what annoys me is that whatever mcfly do people slag them off if your not a fan why do you care so much what they do? Totally agree with this. I'm not a McFly fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't see anything wrong with them trying to sell their music any way they can, just like any other artists do in their own way.

September 18, 200816 yr we are entitled to our opinons FFS and its not personal, imo its about 3 factors....its not just about the hard sell tactics that reek of desperation but its can also be the songs which some may dislike and finally their chart performance (sales and runs). for once we would like them to do what the majority of the acts in the chart are doing and not include so many version and TRY to rely on the strength of the song and NOT getting your young fanbaseto buying multiple versions, they should be ashamed of themselves taking childrens pocket money like this every time. pure exploitation. if any other act was doing what they were doing we would be talking about it and being critical too....no exceptions!! the final factor is their chart performance and after all this is a chart forum and they are more than worthy of criticism cause their chart runs and sales are nothing less than c**p compared to most tracks that reach the top5 especially the ones that have long and healthy chart runs.
September 18, 200816 yr Yeah I don't see anything wrong with it either. If anything I think they're trying to have a longer lasting single chart-wise, rather than score a #1. It's just promoting after all, if people are mad enough to buy loads of different versions of the songs, then that's there problem - no-one elses.

September 18, 200816 yr NOT getting your young fanbaseto buying multiple versions But at least they are giving their fans several slightly different versions to buy. Surely that's better than fans buying multiple copies of the same disc, which is what happens in lots of cases where an artist has a large fanbase. I know I've bought a couple of copies of the exact same CD and I'm sure there are thousands of others who have done the same.

September 18, 200816 yr Oh that's getting boring now, we can voice our opinions, and if we don't like McFly and we want to slag them off because we think they're are useless t**** in the charts, that's up to us! Lately it's been all about "oh they are so mature now, you HAVE TO love them or shut up". I think they're $h!t, I think they have gone rubbish after album 1, and I think they're chart cheatters, and that's it. If you don't like, I couldn't care less.
September 18, 200816 yr Well that's pathetically immature. :/ Chart cheaters? Most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. You sound like a bloody Marxist.
