October 2, 200816 yr whilst Kate Bush is still alive and kicking, I really don't see any point whatsoever in Tori Amos who, at best, is a karaoke Kate.
October 4, 200816 yr Think she s great. Really dig Regina Spector too. What do ya reckon? whilst Kate Bush is still alive and kicking, I really don't see any point whatsoever in Tori Amos who, at best, is a karaoke Kate. Regina Spector, Kate Bush...so all bases covered then within 3 posts
October 9, 200816 yr whilst Kate Bush is still alive and kicking, I really don't see any point whatsoever in Tori Amos who, at best, is a karaoke Kate. Mate, Tori and Kate's music comes from a totally different place emotionally and psychologically... The only way in which they actually resemble each other is the fact that they both have vaginas and breasts..... :P I take it you don't like Emilie Autumn or Amanda Palmer very much either then.....

Tori is Kate-lite for 6th form kids.... christ..even her first (well, second, really) album cover is a total rip-off of The Kick Inside's import box-style cover. As for the other 2 - never heard of them.

Heh, heh, I just knew you couldn't stay away from BJ for long Russ.... And, I dont agree with you at all about Tori Amos, she is a unique artist... 6th Form kids???? Are you kidding me....??? I somehow doubt 6th Form kids could compose something as stark and emotionally charged as "Me And A Gun", in fact not even La Kate would do something as starkly confessional as that, no way.... Sorry man, other than playing the piano and being female, I just dont see where the comparison is coming from.... This comparison is as bizarre as Jark's comparison of Kylie and Goldfrapp tbh..... Amanda Palmer used to be in the fantastic Dresden Dolls and is now a solo artist, Emilie Autumn is a pretty underground female artist who combines classical and baroque music with Industrial, Gothic and even Metal styles... A classically trained violinist, vocalist and Hapsichord player, she used to play in Courtney Love's band as "Anarchy Violinist"... In a live setting, she can do Classical one minute and then all of a sudden cranks up her electric violin and just goes totally insane.... Oh yeah, and she does seriously bizarre cover versions such as "Always Look On The Bright Side of Life" and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" which she plays on a hapsichord, and does a version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" on electric violin which just makes Queen look like utter sh!t....
October 9, 200816 yr Heh, heh, I just knew you couldn't stay away from BJ for long Russ.... surprised you even noticed, Scott... you failed to reply to my message regarding the whole thing if I remember... And I suggest a revisit (or in light of this convo, possibly a first visit) to The Kick Inside if you're looking for deep, confessional piano-based songwriting.... the topics she explores here and the depth of the writing are things Amos can only dream of - and I'm sure, does dream of.... every time I see or heard Amos, I keep expecting "And tonight Matthew, 'm going to be..."
October 9, 200816 yr surprised you even noticed, Scott... you failed to reply to my message regarding the whole thing if I remember... I was away from BJ for over a month myself tbh, had serious issues with my ISP and had no home Internet access for a while.... Sorry dude....

October 21, 200816 yr Tori Amos, she pretty good I would say :) Edited October 26, 200816 yr by MusicMaster
July 26, 200915 yr I love Tori Amos. Her voice, her melodies, her music. Obsessed with "Jackie's Strength" currently, from the album "From The Choirgirl Hotel". Beautiful song.
August 7, 200915 yr whilst Kate Bush is still alive and kicking, I really don't see any point whatsoever in Tori Amos who, at best, is a karaoke Kate. I would have to agree with this one!
June 21, 201015 yr Last night I (among others) was treated to a cover of Tori's Winter at Pride Unplugged. I had tears in my eyes - it was so good to see lots of people singing along too. It's about time it was treated as a standard or classic of the singer/songwriter genre. Seeing her in less than 4 weeks!
