September 27, 200816 yr For anyone to say she'll be struggling for top 75 is ridiculous. You can shift 100 copies and get to 75. I could get a 75 charting if I fancied putting a single out .... I'm sorry but can you name a track in the past 12 months that sold 100 copies and go to Number 75 please?!

Obviously it will require more in a month like December where people are desperate for a Xmas number 1. *edit* 'Knockdown' only had 4000 copies pressed and it still went to number 45. And all assuming that not EVERY single copy was sold because it was only sent to *some* HMV stores and not everyone could find it. Edited September 27, 200816 yr by adnet

I read the rest of your post and took your comments on board - But to be honest with it being used in a TV advert and on the back of her SCD win it should have done alot better than it did - And if as you say it is so easy to make the Top 75 and 'you only need to sell 100 copies' then why did '4 U I Will' miss the Top 100?! I'm not bashing Alesha - I have all 3 of her singles and her leaked unreleased album but I am realistic about where this single will chart - Indeed 'Lipstick' did get to Number 14 but it dropped down the charts quickly (14-29-44-71) and Knockdown missed the Top 40 (69-45-68-71) - The fact that the record company 'mucked up her releases' means little because if people want a song that much then they will get it and lets face it download sites never run out of stock of a single ;) I wish Alesha well and I will be buying the single but I doubt it will trouble the top end of the charts at all. Obviously it will require more in a month like December where people are desperate for a Xmas number 1. I think the #75 single usually sells between 1,900 and 2,000 copies these days. I only have to look back a few weeks of the sales to see that the Fratellis reached #70 with sales of 2,126. The songs at the top of the charts aren't selling as much these days but lower down the charts the songs are selling more because of downloads.
September 27, 200816 yr It probably could have done better, but why should it have when the fans had already heard // had the track for a good year and half before? It was on the 5 track sampler and also on the Japanese promo release. I am not saying 99 copies will get you no where but 100 will get you to 75, but realistically it does not take a lot to get inside the top 75. If you look at the charts over the years there are some unheard of and quite frankly c**p songs that have got in. Not purposely bringing in comparisons but take a look at someone like Keisha White - I was a fan of hers, from way back; since she supported Mis-Teeq on tour. I was really into her, but in 2006 she released a song called 'I Choose Life'. I hadn't a clue it was being released and as a fan, if I didn't know then really ... would anyone else? It still got into the charts at 63. Alesha's promo schedule is gonna be hectic and she is being given some great shows to go on, and with her new fanbase I think something in the top 10 is achievable. Yes, there is a lot of competition and the song may not be everyone's taste but if you can get someone like Keisha into the top 75 with NO promotion and a small fanbase then Alesha can easily do well.

If not much has changed since last in terms of sales then Alesha could easily have sold out those 4000 copies that were pressed. 45 is nothing to brag about but if the label were behind her // pressed more singles then she will have got higher. And also, I'd much rather spend 2 quid on a single and have it stored on my cd rack than pay 1 quid and have a file on my computer which I could lose. I still think people would much rather buy in store than digitally.
September 27, 200816 yr Nice topic :o Leona definately, Britney and Beyonce bubbling under at No.2 & 3

I still think people would much rather buy in store than digitally. Acts have to rely on Downloads now though - Woolworths, Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys etc, have all stopped selling CD singles and HMV carry a very limited range chucked at the back of the shop usually  Hence why some 'pop' acts whos fanbase generally prefer CD singles are struggling at the moment.
September 27, 200816 yr This week is a big one for new releases but not for No.1! It will definitely be Leona! tbh i easily see her shifting 120K in the first week, if not more (how much she sells will shock people, just like Bleeding Love did), none of the others will come close! as much as i love britney..this hype is a bit ridiculous! unless Britney's performance is the week the single comes out, i see Leona hogging the top spot til the xmas songs!
September 27, 200816 yr Leona & Britney both performing on X Factor. So I think it will be a direct battle between these two.
September 27, 200816 yr Leona & Britney both performing on X Factor. So I think it will be a direct battle between these two. Well Britney is releasing 3 weeks after Leona now so it shouldn't be so direct any more. ^_^
September 28, 200816 yr Alesha will struggle baddly. Beyonce and Xtina will go top 5 or low top 10. The other 2 could bothe potentially go to number 1.
September 28, 200816 yr LOL @ more people thinking Alesha has a better chance of being #01 than Xtina does
September 28, 200816 yr leonas song is good but is not a #1 single. britneys not physically released until the end of november so she could get number one any time in the month possibly! christina top 3 and havent heard beyonce or aleshas so dont know! but britney deffo number 1!!!!
