Anyone else looking forward to this? I think the title is amazing and I love Peter Kay :D

Info from wiki:::

Britain's Got The Pop Factor ... And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice is a three-hour long comedy sitcom created, written and produced by comedian Peter Kay. The show will air on Channel 4 in October 2008, making it the first show Kay has produced on the channel for four years. It has been labelled by Channel 4 as the 'comedy forefront of the autumn schedule, which will begin a year-long season of programmes'.[1] [2]

The title, and general format of the show is a parody of several modern and rather popular talent reality television programmes, the most notable being Britain's Got Talent, Pop Idol, The X Factor, Any Dream Will Do, Soapstar Superstar, Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing On Ice.

Plot

As well as being the title of the show, Britain's Got The Pop Factor ... And Possibly A New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly On Ice is the title of the fictional series the show is based around. Kay stars as two fictional contestants on the show- singer Geraldine McQueen and one member of the four-piece band 'Two Up, Two Down'. Nicki Chapman, Pete Waterman and Neil Fox (who were also judge panellists in Popstars and Pop Idol respectively) will star as judges.[3] Jo Enright, Karl Lucas, David Hulston and Sian Foulkes will star as a band, in which the two women are wheelchair-bound.[4] This is presumably a reference to the constant 'sob stories' which appear on these type of shows.

GARLIC? and BREAD?? GARLIC BREAD?

..... It's the future

(Sorry I could not resist.)

Hopefully this will be really good.

But the only problem is how can you parody something that is already beyond parody like X-Factor. Especially with the character assassination of Rhydian which led to the tuneless charisma free zone with a sob story Leon winning X-Factor last year.

Whilst it will be a tough ask to be funnier and more savage than this:

The Peter Serafinowicz Show - You're A C***

Am I the only one who gets freaked out by these adverts of Peter Kay of him at the end in a wig? :/ Quite creepy.

This looks well good, but it's on my birthday. :(

TIME FOR WATCH ONLINE TO COME IN HANDY

It does look v.funny from the trailer. My mum even says so, and she hates Peter Kay haha.

i had a nightmare of it last night :(

This is going to be 12 episodes long, but having watched the first quarter of tonights 24 to Final 12 selection show of the X Factor I'm look forward to playing the "count the cliche phrase" game of everything that is in tonight's X-Factor episode so far.

I'm in two minds about this - Peter Kay seems to have virtually used up his entire stock of comedy ideas (how else can you account for releasing the same live comedy DVD THREE times under different names!?) and the last thing he did for channel 4 - Max and Paddy - was awful.

Phoenix Nights was great, his limited standup routine was great (the first time) but he hasn't been funny for a long, long time.

According to the TV Times though ... its a one-off. Although it is an interesting and amusing idea and Peter Kay is capable of making it hilarious ... I doubt it could be sustained by anyone for 12 episodes.

All my mates think this is going to be really great, but i'm really not looking forward to it.

I know its not a reality tv programme, but its going to feel like it, and we don't need anymore on the TV atm.

I think you're missing the point. He is spoofing all the talent shows into one show and is mocking at how many talent shows we have (Hence the long name of his show!)

Leafing through Heat magazine in WHSmiths during my lunch hour I saw the same thing. The thing is a spoof like this could easily have had the potential for 12 episodes using the same format as X Factor, etc if other top character comedians/actors had come together to collaborate for this project with one getting voted off each week, etc. Then they could have got together for a spoof Charity record (except the money raised went to Comic Relief) and released it to take on and beat X Factor.

My work mate who is a Peter Kay nut was obviously getting confused with X Factor or SCD.

The TV Times guide for the night goes:

Channel 4

8.00 Peter Kay's Britain's Got the Pop Factor

Beginning a night dedicated to the Bolton comedian. Peter Kay presents his take on Britain's reality talent shows. It's the live final of the show hosted by Cat Deeley, and remaining acts R Wayne, 2 Up 2 Down and Geraldine hope to impress the judges and stake their claim for the title. Neil Fox, Pete Waterman and Nicki Chapman reprise their Pop Idol roles as the judges.

9.15 (some documentary)

10.15 Peter Kay's Britain's Got the Pop Factor: The Final Result

Cat Deeley presents as the winning act is revealed. R Wayne, 2 Up 2 Down and Geraldine did all they could to impress the judges, but only one can walk away with the title.

They're taking this seriously in a funny kind of way.
