DAVID BOWIE ruled the roost, but the single of the same name, could not even scrape higher than number 20. The 3rd album for the POLICE (their 2nd charttopping album). KATE BUSH on her album included the singles "ARMY DREAMERS", and the Christmas hit "DECEMBER WILL BE MAGIC AGAIN" consequently getting a 2nd Charttopper too. DON MCLEAN had his best of. MADNESS blew the top ten apart, as did the SPECIALS. UB40 (on the small West Midland Indie label "Graduate") scored a number one with their first album. On the film front we all saw "BREAKING GLASS", and put the HAZEL O`CONNER album up there. SUPERTRAMP got a top 20 album, but the singles at that point were scarce. THE THREE DEGREES sneaked in with their greatest..Remember the joke: At the Three Degrees concert, only one of them turned up...and everyone put on their coats. Well, it was minus 2 degrees! ;) The singles in Oct 1980: 01 01 DON`T STAND SO CLOSE TO ME - THE POLICE 02 06 D.I.S.C.O. - OTTAWAN 03 02 MASTERBLASTER (JAMMIN`) - STEVIE WONDER 04 04 BAGGY TROUSERS - MADNESS 05 05 MY OLD PIANO - DIANA ROSS 06 03 ONE DAY I`LL FLY AWAY - RANDY CRAWFORD 07 12 AMIGO - BLACK SLATE 08 14 SEARCHING - CHANGE 09 08 ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST - QUEEN 10 20 KILLER ON THE LOOSE - THIN LIZZY 11 21 STEREOTYPE/INTERNATIONAL JET SET - THE SPECIALS 12 16 THREE LITTLE BIRDS - BOB MARLEY 13 22 IF YOU`RE LOOKING FOR A WAY OUT - ODDYSEY 14 07 FEELS LIKE I`M IN LOVE - KELLY MARIE 15 33 CASANOVA - COFFEE 16 13 I OWE YOU ONE - SHALAMAR 17 17 I GOT YOU - SPLIT ENZ 18 26 TROUBLE - GILLAN 19 09 IT`S ONLY LOVE/BEYOND THE REEF - ELVIS PRESLEY 20 25 YOU`RE LYING - LINX 21 NE AND THE BIRDS WERE SINGING - SWEET PEOPLE 22 NE WHEN YOU ASK ABOUT LOVE - MATCHBOX 23 41 LOVE X LOVE - GEORGE BENSON 24 NE WOMAN IN LOVE - BARBRA STRIESAND 25 11 EIGHTH DAY - HAZEL O`CONNER 26 15 IT`S STILL ROCK N` ROLL TO ME - BILLY JOEL 27 32 GOTTA PULL MYSELF TOGETHER - NOLANS 28 18 DREAMIN` - CLIFF RICHARD 29 NE ALL OUT OF LOVE - AIR SUPPLY 30 10 MODERN GIRL - SHEENA EASTON 31 NE WHAT YOU`RE PROPOSING - STATUS QUO 32 19 PARANOID - BLACK SABBATH 33 42 PARTY LIGHTS - GAP BAND 34 37 WHAT`S IN A KISS - GILBERT O`SULLIVAN 35 27 9 - 5 - SHEENA EASTON 36 NE ARMY DREAMERS - KATE BUSH 37 43 SPECIAL BREW - BAD MANNERS 38 24 SUNSHINE OF YOUR SMILE - MIKE BERRY 39 30 MARIE MARIE - SHAKIN` STEVENS 40 NE ENOLA GAY - ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK (The vintage charts were compiled by Record Business magazine, for Independant Radio 1980). THE POLICE with the top single of the week, also got top single of the year. OTTAWAN were the classy cheesey act of the year! STEVIE WONDER paid tribute to BOB MARLEY at 3, and BOB was at 12. MADNESS got their biggest single yet. DIANA ROSS took her old "Joanna" off the album "DIANA". BLACK SLATE had their best hit with "AMIGO"...which of course means "FRIEND". CHANGE and LUTHER VANDROSS scraped the top 10 with "SEARCHING". THIN LIZZY had problems with an escaped convict. QUEEN bit the dust down the chart, after peaking at 7. COFFEE and "CASANOVA" looked impressive, but stalled very quickly. SPLIT ENZ were the FINN brothers, basically CROWDED HOUSE. SWEET PEOPLE paid homage to a series of whistling birds, with a surprise hit. MATCHBOX got their biggest hit. BARBRA STRIESAND teamed up with the BEE GEES, and got her first and only number one. THE NOLANS pulled themselves a top ten hit, with lots of Radio 2 airplay. AIR SUPPLY were out of Australia...bit of a slight connection with a 90s remake, but the original definately the best. BLACK SABBATH got a re-issue from 1970, and the rock scene was pretty big. THE GAP BAND put away their oars, but could not do as well as their previous hit "OOPS UP SIDE YOUR HEAD". GILBERT O`SULLIVAN had a small comeback, and his first hit in 5 years. BAD MANNERS took a slow climb here, but did eventually make the top 3, with their biggest single yet. OMD also had their biggest hit yet, although "ENOLA GAY", peaked at 8 three weeks later. SHEENA EASTON had 2 similtaneous hits, but "MODERN GIRL" (which she sung on the BIG TIME with ESTHER RANTZEN in 1979) was a re-issue. Hang on, and I will come back with the latest singles soon...

October 10, 200816 yr Author Thanks Dave How close are the album sales between #2 to #5 and do the positions look like they could change by Sunday .....lots of questions especially since we have had no sales info this week  Well Sunday and everyone..Oasis are 5 - 1 on Kings Of Leon..surprise surprise! Then Will is pretty much well ahead of James...Rihanna is around 6,000 behind them. It won`t change by Sunday`s chart.
October 10, 200816 yr Yay for Britney & the Pet Shop Boys. And woo for Girls being a somewhat flop! That'll show them!
October 10, 200816 yr cheers dave! Do you have any inside info why The Courteeners fell from #5 to outside the top 20 OCC midweeks chart in a single day, from Tuesday to Wednesday? I notice the physical is #10 here, would you be able to give some idea of sales for that position? I'm guessing 2k max? Download sales for the track are very low. I just get the impression that some sales were removed...
October 10, 200816 yr Author cheers dave! Well Robbie..on Wednesday I spoke to a colleague on that, and was told that on Tues, there was a lot of download sales info missing on other songs. Mainly from iTunes..most of which were not included. Hence Courteeners being so high. Even Cage The Elephant were in the top 20, if I remember. Definately no more than 2k forn the physical of "That Kiss".
