October 27, 200816 yr The Doctor Who Xmas Special had better be good...I am very sad as much as I like TOTP 2 I prefer seeing live performances, not archive stuff
October 27, 200816 yr I think they're probably scared of it being so good that people will reiterate their demands for it to be rightfully brought back which would result in them being proven wrong about taking it off the air in the first place. -_- Come on you can't have Christmas without Christmas Top Of The Pops! This sums up my viewpoint exactly.
October 27, 200816 yr I'm gutted!! I absoloutely loved Christmas TOTP, especially after the weekly show had been axed so we had a round-up of all the year's biggest hits.
October 28, 200816 yr I'll bet we'll still get 'Noel's Christmas presents' though. Oh, we will. Well, Noel's gotta do something when Deal or No Deal gets cancelled - due to the Banker getting his P45.
October 28, 200816 yr This sums up my viewpoint exactly. Same here, the TOTP xmas special is an xmas tradition and it won't be the same without it.
October 29, 200816 yr Same here, the TOTP xmas special is an xmas tradition and it won't be the same without it. Me too. I can barely believe this. I cried when the ITV Chart Show ended (to be fair, I was about 10) so imagine how this makes me feel
October 29, 200816 yr *sigh* I just wish that ITV or Channel 4 would take the iniative and do something instead :( Christmas Pop World anyone? Just a christmas show with a varied selection of acts performing the biggest hits of the year is all I ask for christmas TV! :( Well that and The Snowman...
October 29, 200816 yr Simon Cowell has vowed to save TOTP, by buying it from the BBC! this article just added to Digital Spy! Simon Cowell has made an offer to the BBC for the Top Of The Pops format. Following the news that the broadcaster has axed its annual TOTP Christmas special, the X Factor producer has voiced his desire to revive the flagship music show. He told The Sun: "I've got a suggestion for them. If they don’t want it, I'll take it. I'm serious. They can give it to me or I will give them a bit of money. Why end the tradition? It's like not having Christmas pudding. I don't believe in breaking with tradition. "This year has been phenomenal for British music and we should celebrate by making Top Of The Pops at Christmas a fantastic event. I've made them an offer and let's see if they accept." Former TOTP presenter Scott Mills said that the decision to pull the show has "ruined Christmas". He added: "It'll be weird not having it there. It's like one less present to open. I can see how it's less popular now, with MTV and YouTube, but I always thought it would stay. I really want it back. It's not too late for the BBC to change their minds. It would be brilliant." October 29, 200816 yr He added: "It'll be weird not having it there. It's like one less present to open. I can see how it's less popular now, with MTV and YouTube, but I always thought it would stay. I really want it back. It's not too late for the BBC to change their minds. It would be brilliant." And that seems to be why they did it, forgetting that: A - Not everyone can get MTV (not that they actually play any music on there anymore, you understand), and B - Not everyone has the Internet. And, even if they do, they don't have the time and/or inclination to go to YouTube.
October 30, 200816 yr Absolutely gutted. I can't imagine xmas without totp! Oh and isn't somebody else's christmas presents now? Think i read that Noel left the series following an accident?
October 30, 200816 yr cue the Simon Cowell trying to line his pockets and ego posts  Why axe a popular Xmas show and replace it with a crappier version that gets less viewers. The mind boggles! We should all chip in and buy the format from the British Brown Corporation
October 30, 200816 yr Agreed! I'd rather not have it at all then have him in control of it and filling it with manufactured c**p every week! I suppose ocassionally they'll vary it a bit and have some 'Indie' like The Feeling and Scouting For Girls  The whole reason we wanted it back in the first place was so the countries new varied talents over the next few years have a flagship music show not just something for more publicity for Leona etc. -_- Christmas TOTP is the same, the biggest hits from the year from different types of acts on one shwo.
November 1, 200816 yr Does anyone have viewing figures for TOTP Xmas from the last few years or more? Tried barb.co.uk but can't find any. Just wanted to see if figures had really fallen off that much over the years.
November 2, 200816 yr What things could be like if it was done properly? 80s-style countdown for this week's chart. 0Zzk1vqTsbc
November 2, 200816 yr Love it, that's fantastic! Of course, it would have to be an electro house remix of The Wizard :)
November 10, 200816 yr Author BBC says no to Cowell TOTP Source: MW 10:14 | Monday November 10, 2008 By Stuart Clarke Having pulled the plug on its traditional festive edition of Top Of The Pops, the BBC has now declared a double humbug by refusing to grant Simon Cowell his Christmas wish of taking over the production of the festive edition of the legendary show. Cowell was enthusiastic about the opportunity to take on Top Of The Pops this Christmas but BBC bosses have told the Syco CEO the brand is not for sale. The Corporation said in a statement, “I’m afraid we couldn’t accept Simon’s offer because Top Of The Pops is a BBC brand and is not for sale. However, we hope viewers will enjoy the eight episodes of TOTP2 lined up over Christmas, which will feature some of the year's key hits and possibly the Christmas Number One.” The iconic music show, which was axed by the BBC in July 2006 after a 42-year weekly run, has long been a staple of the Christmas TV Schedules, pulling in millions of viewers to its afternoon show. As previously reported, the traditional broadcast is to be replaced this year with a Top Of The Pops 2 Christmas special, as well as a run of the spin-off show.
November 10, 200816 yr However, we hope viewers will enjoy the eight episodes of TOTP2 lined up over Christmas, which will feature some of the year's key hits and possibly the Christmas Number One.” Whereas TOTP would have had the the Christmas No1. And I doubt we'll love TOTP2 - has anyone there actually sat through it?
November 10, 200816 yr Yes actually and I find it quite fun, but I have quite retro music taste. Definitely I'll miss Christmas TOTP, but Simon would have only turned it into a special edition of the X Factor (which I love too, but I love all kinds of music).
