What have we this Monday, in the preview to next Sunday`s charts? How correct will it be? Well after last week, we can`t do that much better! Yep, last week compared to last night...we had 29 in the top 30 albums (combined top 30). Then faired with 35 in the top 40 singles. Overall, as the chart is based on something, rather than the old guessing game in the absolutely made-up Radio Luxembourg chart! :teresa:

Static, it look`s apart from the direness that is the ever tiring X Factor...reminding me of the joke: Whatever happened to the Avon Lady? Of course, without being to crude..."Max Factor!"Outside the top 40 new in the 50 are T-PAIN - FREEZE, I`M SO PAID - AKON, JOSH GROBAN enters, as does DIDO...a flop?

In the top 75 we find entries from SAM TAYLOR WOOD/PET SHOP BOYS, ROBIN THICKE, KATIE MELUA...MARIAH CAREY re-enters with HERO, and there is another entry from PUSSYCAT DOLLS - I HATE THIS PART.

I don`t hate this part...because we get to go back to Radio Luxembourg`s Next Week`s Chart from...1972

36 years ago...the BBC were about to celebrate 50 Years of existence. Infact on the Sunday 5th November 1972, on the Sunday chart...TOM BROWNE teamed up with BRIAN MATTHEW to bring us the new Top 30, back to back with songs from 1922 - 1971 between 4-7pm. They played 60 songs in those 3 hours, with Radio 2 joining at 6pm for the top 10, and hits from 61-71. Unless you were watching The Adventures Of Black Beauty, and Norman Vaughan`s Golden Shot, on ITV!

Radio Luxembourg had this top 30...on Tues 31st October

01 01 MOULDY OLD DOUGH - LIEUTENANT PIGEON

02 02 DONNA - 10CC

03 05 ELECTED - ALIVE COOPER

04 09 CLAIR - GILBERT O`SULLIVAN

05 04 IN A BROKEN DREAM - PYTHON LEE JACKSON

06 11 THERE ARE MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS - JOHNNY NASH

07 07 I DIDN`T KNOW I LOVED YOU TIL I SAW YOU ROCK N`ROLL - GARY GLITTER

08 12 GOODBYE TO LOVE - CARPENTERS

09 03 YOU`RE A LADY - PETER SKELLERN

10 06 BURNING LOVE - ELVIS PRESLEY

11 23 GUITAR MAN - BREAD

12 24 LEADER OF THE PACK - SHANGRI-LAS

13 17 HALLELUJAH FREEDOM - JUNIOR CAMPBELL

14 10 WIG WAM BAM - THE SWEET

15 18 LOOP DI LOVE - SHAG

16 14 JOHN I`M ONLY DANCING - DAVID BOWIE

17 08 HOW CAN I BE SURE - DAVID CASSIDY

18 21 BACKSTABBERS - O`JAYS

19 15 BURLESQUE - FAMILY

20 30 HERE I GO AGAIN - ARCHIE BELL AND THE DRELLS

21 RE AMERICA - SIMON AND GARFUNKEL

22 26 NEW ORLEANS - HARLEY QUINNE

23 RE LET`S DANCE - CHRIS MONTEZ

25 22 ELMO JAMES - CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD

26 NE MY DING-A-LING - CHUCK BERRY

27 NE YOU`LL ALWAYS BE A FRIEND - HOT CHOCOLATE

28 NE LAY DOWN - STRAWBS

29 28 OH CAROL - NEIL SEDAKA

30 22 TOO YOUNG - DONNY OSMOND

Re-issues all over the shop in 72...and re-makes SIMON AND GARFUNKEL with a 1968 track, NEIL SEDAKA with a 3 way maxi-single of OH CAROL, BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO, LITTLE DEVIL...TOO YOUNG was DONNY OSMOND`s version of a 1951 number one for JIMMY YOUNG, and U.S. hit for NAT KING COLE...ARCHIE BELL`s hit was a re-isssue too, HARLEY QUINNE covered a 1961 hit for U.S. BONDS...CHRIS MONTEZ re-issue his 1962 hit, DAVID CASSIDY covered the YOUNG RASCALS from 1967, and the SHANGRI-LAS re-issued LEADER OF THE PACK (a 1965 number 13 hit). PYTHON LEE JACKSON was actually ROD STEWART, on the YOUNGBLOOD label...he was actually signed to Mercury Records, and this meant he could not use his own name. Then Rod tax-exiled himself from Britain, and reaped the rewards! By the way SHAG was an assumed name of JONATHAN KING...both he, and GARY GLITTER in the same chart...Dodgy people, but great music.

Thanks Dave!

But how are Vampire Weekend at No.37 with "A-Punk" exactly? There's no physical out, it's charting solely on downloads and it's hardly setting the iTunes chart alight (and was only No.84 on the official chart last week, up from No.90).

Hmm...

Adele's top 40 with her flop single but Dido isn't? I think it'll be the other way around by Sunday. :D

Good to see Bloc Party top 10 too. :D

Shocked at how badly Dido is flopping! It's weak but not that bad. :o :s

Hopefully Snow Patrol will sell over 100k this week. :)

Nice clearout in the top 10 album chart, as for the singles chart it seems too quiet on the western front, with omitting Adele and Vampire Weekend, the chart looks awful.

I think the problem with Dido is everybody knew the track was suppose to be released next week, she has brought it forward by a week, so not to clash with the other females releasing next week

Looks like a dull week this week :o

Melua at no3? I can only recall 2 songs by her so it boggles me why on earth she'd release a greatest hits, except for a cashin.

Thought I read ages back that it marks the end of her contract with Mike Batt - but I could be making it up ...

Thanks Dave, is it possible to seperate the artists chart from the compilations, or do I have to try it myself :P

No, you're exactly right

You think she´s worried at the clash or chart competition??? :D

For someone who is going to debut outside the Top 40, it doesn´t make a difference who is going to be #1...

If she bothered about chart sucess then she would have made a music video for the f***ing song, promote a bit, and release it in the week it was actually scheduled for.

She is just kidding comitting a commercial suicide for fun...

Why was my post about Adele being moved back to 3rd November removed?

Anyway, it looks like Sam Taylor Wood/Pet Shop Boys have been put back as well.

Thanks , dave. Interesting chart positioning for top 10.

I am not surprised with Dido , since when was she such a big artist anyway?

IMO, of course. :P
