Posted November 4, 200816 yr Over the next week or so I will be counting down what I consider to be my top 50 albums ever - although they consisit of only albums from 1993(ish) onwards. I may post a special at the end for my top 10 or so older albums :D Would be nice to have a few of you along for the ride! :cheer:

November 4, 200816 yr Author 50. Snow Patrol - Final Straw http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/9866089.JPG Despite being released in 2004, I didn't buy this little gem until 2005 after I had grown to love Run and Chocolate. I think the clinching factor is Spitting Games - a trio of top notch singles from a quietly confident album. Manged a million sales in the UK in 2006 on the back of Eyes Open. Run: HAQOWViUm0I 'Light up, as if you have a choice' Pick of the album tracks: Grazed Knees
November 4, 200816 yr Author 49. Supergrass - I Should Coco http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/cdpcs7373.JPG Released in 1995, this is Supergrass' debut album, and was one of the first albums I bought from my golden age of music when I was at University. Almost punk in its sound (with the notable exception of smash hit Alright), I Should Coco took its time to grow on me. Although the album has not aged well, I give it enough spins on my i-pod these days to let it sneak into the countdown. Alright: o_e4PxtQ-Fw 'Keep our teeth nice and clean' Pick of the album tracks: She's So Loose
November 4, 200816 yr Author 48. Gorillaz - Gorillaz http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/5311380.JPG I make no secret of my love for the Gorillaz - the reason for the comparitively lowly position of their 2001 debut album is down to the variable quality of the songs. half the album is brilliant and quirky (Clint Eastwood, 19/2000, Rock The House, Latin Simone, Ghost Train, Tomorrow Comes Today); half is a bit less accessible even over 7 years of trying (5/4, Man Research, Punk). Its a game of two halves. Or something. 19/2000 (Soulchild remix): EM5BxEXQFoI 'Got the cool shoe-shine' Pick of the album tracks: Latin Simone (Que Pasa Contigo)
November 4, 200816 yr Final Straw great album, I can see Eyes Open entering high for you ;) Gorillaz love it, but I hardly play it no more :( lost the CD
November 4, 200816 yr Author Final Straw great album, I can see Eyes Open entering high for you ;) Gorillaz love it, but I hardly play it no more :( lost the CD  Eyes Open is to come, but not as high as some would expect o: Random fact: there is only ONE (what I would fully consider) pop album in the countdown!
November 4, 200816 yr Snow Patrol FS  - 'Run' is sensational! My 3rd favourite song EVER! and I bought the album, JUST for that track, but was pleasently surprised  Sg - Haven't heard, I didn't like their singles! Gorillaz - 19/2000 - Is the only song I REALLY like of theirs! FGI is good but I prefer 19/2000 Haven't got the album though!
November 4, 200816 yr Author 47. Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/9866058.JPG Oddly enough, this album was released on the same day as the slow burner at #50! I was lucky enough to see the Scissor Sisters live supporting Elton John (randomly) before they became too massive in 2004 and bought this album off the back of their excellent set. Although now one of the biggest selling albums of the century (and just pipped at the last minute of the 2004 crown by Keane in the year end sales), this has totally suffered from overplay. Nonetheless a very impressive debut, and enough for it to squeeze the follow up Ta-Dah! out of my top albums list. Mary: LZuq9dCWqLk 'I'm always gonna live to be your man' Pick of the album tracks: It Can't Come Quickly Enough

November 5, 200816 yr I wouldn't have put you down as a Snow Patrol fan, John :o Their new album is a tad disappointing :( Really? :o I love them  (Thanks to 'Run') Their new album is disappointing but the first 3 tracks are IMMENSE! If There's a Rocket is one of my fave Snow Patrol Tracks  As for Scissor Sisters... Not keen :(
November 5, 200816 yr Author 46. Dido - Life For Rent http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/82876545982.JPG Dido may well be throwaway MOR coffee table music, but I am an unashamed fan! Life For Rent was just massive in 2003, and is solid album if a little samey and almost a step back from her debut No Angel. I probably included this as I associate it with many happy memories. Don't Leave Home: 0AZDsCv6ptk 'Close the blinds and shut the door' Pick of the album tracks: Stoned
November 5, 200816 yr Author As for Scissor Sisters... Not keen :( Indeed they are not Keane  Although Keane are not far away.....!
November 5, 200816 yr Author 45. David Gray - White Ladder http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/8573829832.JPG He of the wobbly head! :o Another slow burner that took over a year to top the album chart. White Ladder has been dismissed by some (like Dido) as being a bit vapid and dull - I can appreciate this, but this album is actually quite stunning and really shows off Gray's songwriting skills. The best track on the album for me is Babylon (the single version is superior to the album version) which would probably be the song he is best known for. I also give David Gray bonus points for keeping Gareth Gates from the album chart #1 with his follow up album A New Day At Midnight  Babylon: jmK-YWSJ8Eg 'All the lights are changing green to red' Pick of the album tracks: Sail Away
November 5, 200816 yr Author 44. Pulp - This Is Hardcore http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/CID8066.JPG This is the awkward 1998 follow up to Different Class, arguably Pulp's career defining record. Although not of the quality of their earlier albums, this is a decent collection of songs, although the singles Help The Aged and This Is Hardcore are the highlights. In fact, I only have one album track, The Fear, on my i-tunes! Help The Aged: gPQGeJYaAes 'No big deal, so give us all a feel' Pick of the album tracks: The Fear
November 5, 200816 yr David Gray and Pulp :puke: I don't like their singles so I haven't listened to their albums!
November 5, 200816 yr Author 43. Dido - No Angel http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/ari190252.JPG I, like many others, found Dido thanks to the superb Eminem track Stan. The album is so much more than the sample of Thank You, as fellow single Here With Me illustrates. The whole album has a downbeat but rather epic sound to it - this is certainly not Dido at her dullest! Here WIth Me: y95-VipidR0 'I am what I am, I'll do what I want' Pick of the album tracks: My Lover's Gone
November 5, 200816 yr  Gorillaz, David Gray Pulp  Snow Patrol, Supergrass :puke2: Scissor Sisters, Dido  = good  = meh :puke2: = $h!t
