This is an album that only I seem to adore :( I listen to music when I read and for some reason I always listen to this album when I am reading Harry Potter LOL REM are very hit and miss for me, but they one of very few American bands I actually like.

A&E is STUNNING! It actually interested me in a band who before that, I actually despised! Seventh Tree is a surprisingly good album :heart:

1995 saw Radiohead release the follow up to 1993's Pablo Honey, and after the almost freak popularity of Creep brought them the recognition they deserved. This was really the start of their golden age.

19. Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head

Despite being my least favourite overall Coldplay album, the 2003 follow up to Parachutes packs quite some punch. It does, however, remain the only Coldplay album with tracks I really dislike on it! Clocks and The Scientist are utterly brilliant tracks though.

18. Zero 7 - Simple Things

Utterly beautiful 'chillout' album from the maters of the genre. The tracks are so subtle they weave their way into my consciousness with ease and it is so easy to just releax and let the music wash over me. In other words, they are gurt lush songs.

 

Destiny:

Avoid: None :o

17. Air - Moon Safari

I bought this on my 22nd birthday. Not sure why I remember that, but there you go :lol: This began my obsession with the summery, laid back disco gallic vibes of Air. If you are a fan, check out the Kinky Boyz remix of Sexy Boy found on the Queer as Folk soundtrack. Track 3, All I Need, is a summer evening in one beautiful song. Listen and love, people!

16. REM - Automatic For The People

Out Of Time paved the way for REM's masterpiece, Automatic for the People. This is one of the older albums in my coutdown, and probably the one I have loved for the longest. REM are one of a very few American rock bands I have consistently liked throoughot their career, but oddly my favourite REM track - Daysleeper, is from the 1998 album Up which is nowhere near my top 50 albums ever!

 

Nightswimming:

'Side by side in orbit'

 

Standout tracks: Nightswimming, Man On The Moon, Drive, New Orleans Instrumental No 1 and The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite

 

Avoid: Ignoreland and Find The River

 

 

15. Portishead - Portishead

The second album from Bristol born and bred trip hop masters, released a mere 3 years after debut Dummy. Their third album, erm Third, would be released 11 years after and missed out on my top 50 by a whisker. This album is slightly darker than Dummy and is less sample driven, but oh so more atmospheric - I can just imagine listening to Humming in the fog at night whilst being haunted by Beth Gibbon's amazing voice :o

 

All Mine:

'From that cloud, number 9'

 

Standout tracks: Humming, All Mine, Only You, Half Day Closing and Undenied

A very enjoyable read. We share fairly similar tastes in music.

 

Assuming everything is equal I'll be hopeful of doing my Top 100 albums of the decade towards the end of next year; and My Top 100 Albums of 20th Century in the Retro Forum at the same time.
