Cant believe Laura's been voted out, what a joke. That Mariah Carey night was probably the worst X-Factor show ever. Looking forward to Best of British week though, we should get some decent songs.

If Ann Robinson was a judge she would have said on week 1

Daniel - you are the weakest link - Goodbye!

Well I was liking X Factor up until Laura's departure, I was annoyed by Austin and Rachel both being bottom two and Austin going, but that I could accept since I prefer Rachel to Austin, however with Laura and Ruth to me it was no competition, Laura was the better singer throughout the competiton.

I still think that Daniel has robbed a few people of their place on X Factor with his sob story, I thought this right from the start when Dannii put him through instead of Suzie. When you compare Laura and Daniel you can see that she didnt' deserve to go, especially since she was one of the "mains" in Heroes and Daniel was pretty much a chorus.

Anyway, Best of British next week and the competition goes on. Just for fun, here's what I would give the contestants if I was their mentor:

Alexandra:

First Choice: Dusty Springfield - Son of a Preacher Man

Backup: Whitney Houston - Saving All My Love for You

Diana:

First Choice: ??? - ???

Backup: Sarah McLachlan - When she Loved Me OR Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah

JLS:

First Choice: Take That - How Deep is your Love?

Backup: ??? - ???

Ruth:

First Choice: Cilla Black - You're my World

Backup: Shirley Bassey - I'll Get By

Rachel:

First Choice: Amy Winehouse - Back to Black OR Amy Winehouse - Love is a Losing Game

Backup: George Gershwin - Summertime

Daniel:

First Choice: Sting - Fields of Gold

Backup: Paul McCartney - Yesterday

Eoghan:

First Choice: Queen - Crazy Little Thing Called Love

Backup: Carole King - You've got a Friend

You can't have: Whitney Houston - Leonard Cohen - Carole King - George Gershwin -- they're American and Sarah McLachlan is Canadian

Personally i'd go for Diana:

First Choice: Beatles - We Can Work It Out

Second Choice: Dusty Springfield - You Don't Have To Say You Love Me

Third Choice: Sandie Shaw - Always Something There To Remind Me

Sorry double post

I think you are wrong.

The joke is X-Factor itself. Just compare it to Strictly Come Dancing for example.

Compare the expertise of the 4 judges:

Simon Cowell - Before Pop Idol he signed the following acts Sinitta, Curiosity Killed the Cat, Sonia Evans, Five, Westlife, Robson & Jerome, and Ultimate Kaos. He also released several novelty recordings featuring the likes of wrestlers of the World Wrestling Federation, Teletubbies, Zig and Zag and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. He was also famous as head of BMG for turning down the opportunity of signing the Spice Girls; passing on the option of signing Robbie Williams as a solo artist & dropping Kylie Minogue from the Dance offshoot Deconstruction in 1998 saying that she was "too old to have big pop hit singles anymore and should return to acting"

Louis Walsh - Manager of Johnny Logan Ireland's double winning Eurovision Song Contest artist; Boyzone; Bellefire & reviving Lulu's career in the mid 1990s and then there is the Karoake kings Westlife.

Dannii Minogue - Kylie's younger and less successful sister. Whom has been in the public eye in Australia since her childhood, but is hardly top qualified to judge a talent competition based on many wobbly live vocal performances.

Cheryl Cole - The most famous member of Girls Aloud whom is married to an England international footballer, but seeing how GA have still sold only one-tenth what the Spice Girls sold worldwide then Victoria Beckham would be better qualified to be a judge. Or maybe Geri Halliwell who after all was a judge on PopStars: The Rivals which saw the band that became Girls Aloud formed.

Its hard to believe ... but Sharon Osborne actually has more right to being a judge on this than any of the incumbent judges. At least her father made her serve an apprenticeship in the music business. Who knows ... maybe this is the real reason Simon got rid of her.

Sorry if its already been posted. Ridicolous amount of Laura and Alexandra featured. Poor Bad Lashes, Scott and Daniel hardly get a look in (in Bad Lashes case they dont, are they even there?)

^^There's a lot of Girlband on there, maybe they were expected to do better on show? Laura's voice sounded great on that record

22/11 week spoilers,

The six remaining X Factor competitors aim to please the public and the judges, Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh, Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole, as they tackle the Take That songbook, before the group itself takes to the stage to perform its brand new single.

It's crunch time for the remaining finalists, as the result of the public vote is revealed. The two acts with the lowest number of votes will perform a song of their choice in the final showdown. Then it is up to the judges to decide who stays and who goes. Plus last year's finalists Rhydian and Same Difference are special guests, launching their brand new singles.

3 special guests performing all in the same night?

That's what it says, dubious and strange, I know

Not really. There's less acts now, means more time for the special artists to sing...

Probably one at the start of the show, one at the end, then one at the beginning of the results show (Take That most likely).

I totally agree with you. They must be the same people who vote for the UKs song choice in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Why does Louis always have the last say who goes home. It should be done by rotation. In fact it should be on the public vote alone.

The bottom 2 for me last night were Daniel and Rachel. Daniel for the same reason as always and Rachel was totally out of tune last night.

Best for me last night were Laura & Alexandra and I voted for Laura.

What did anyone think of Mariah's performances. I hate her new single but I loved her singing Hero.

I have to say Get Well soon Diana  you were really missed last night.

It should now be Diana vs Alexandra in the final with Diana to win. All the rest are rubbish.

You're full of cráp.

Just shows how tastes change. When I was a teenage girl I wanted Jeff Lynne and Clint Eastwood to jump me! I think Lynne was pushing 30 at the time and Eastwood pushing 40 - but even as a kid I liked my 'fancies' to look like men. If your comment is true then it seems teenage girls like theirs to look like some sort of soft toy that bears an uncanny resemblence to a certain greenish yellow duck!

Norma

This is very true. I can't imaging Eoghan holding any sex appeal for anyone other than paedophiles, because he has the look and mannerisms of a girl half his age. The comments from the judges about how "mature" he is are ridiculous. Diana is only a year older than him, and she's winning praise for her TALENT not her age.

I think the real reason Suzie wasn't put through was more to do with the fact that it would have been dangerous for Dannii to put through an all-female category, especially when there were 3 very good females in Cheryl's category.

I don't think you can use who does what in Hero as anything to go by. Girlband for instance have much more airtime than Ruth, Diana or JLS on that.

Diana winning X Factor would be the worst thing for her

She would be forced by Cowell into an album of bland ballads and cover versions

She would be far better off making records as an independent artist in her niche area

In a way, you're right. Much as I like Diana and would like her to be recognised by the public by winning, it's quite obvious Simon Cowell wouldn't have a clue what to do with her, and we'd end up with the usual slushy pop balladry which just WOULDN'T be right.

OMG. I know it's wrong but I am genuinely looking forward to this. The worst thing about Leon winning was that he was up against two of the most entertaining and enjoyable acts the X Factor had ever seen.

Okay, some points first!

Video Sleek, stylish, simple, does it's job well. Love that it's a total Alexandra fest too!

Mariah My friend Martin tells me that most of I Stay In Love was mimed so no vocal props there, fair play to her for doing Hero live and she got into her stride a bit later but the beginning was just awful!

Dermot is getting better, no? He was really funny particularly with Ruth (what FOOL would break your heart? and the comment about castonets)

Diana should have still been put up for vote to make it fair. In the circumstances she'd never have been voted out of the bottom two, she'd never really have been in it, but fair play to the others for agreeing to her getting a free pass.

--------------------

My order may surprise this week!

01. Eoghan - Anytime You Need A Friend

I'm so surprised people haven't been commenting on what I saw as a vast improvement! Even the fans seemed to think it was bad! Well it was all in tune (which is nothing to rave about but his other performances have not always been), there was surprisingly strong vocals, who KNOWS where they came from and some of the notes he hit though not entirely difficult were divine! I agree with Dannii that he sounded magic!

02. Alexandra - Without You

Well she's always going to be there or thereabouts! I don't think that it was perfect by any means but still absolutely fantastic and keeping her consistency up! I love how you sometimes see her really nervy before and after performances, but during the performance itself, there are no signs, she just oozes confidence. I loved at the end when she swiped her hand defiantly - off topic, while Laura and Diana have annoying hand movements, Alexandra has got the 'what to do with my hands' thing DOWN! I also love that she is now coming out of her shell personality wise, the last two VTs she has been hilarious and bubbly. The last note of the song was amazing, too.

03. Daniel - Open Arms :o :o

Daniel has never registered anywhere other than bottom for me, but this was EASILY his best performance, and credit where credit is due, he did not deserve bottom two based on this. The vocals were strong, he was confident, and while he didn't hit any amazing notes, he hit some really nice ones that were easy on the ear. I think he did well!

04. JLS - One Sweet Day

They don't really put a foot (or any of their eight feet really) wrong, do they? Having said that, while there were no flaws, it wasn't overly exciting. Vocally I think Marvin did fantastically as Cheryl said, Aston not as good as we have heard but he carried the key change well. What was with Louis' delayed reaction to Cheryl's Westlife comment though?! By the way what I love about JLS is their connection with Louis, the 'craic', they are always having jokes with him and that bond brings their personality out...

05. Laura - My Endless Love

Okay while I will never say that Laura is a bad vocalist, she clearly isn't, there are things in her vocals which make me annoyed. Last night was a mix of wishy washy, strained and shrieked vocals.. she wasn't hardly using the best part of her voice and when she did it seemed strained. Also I had a text straight after disputing if she played the piano or not.. even if she did it's not THAT rare Cheryl, calm down! I long for the days of her doing Cry Me A River' and 'Fallin', she seems to suit contemporary but she's peaked too early.

06. Ruth - My All

Interestingly, when I spoke to my Mum after the show, she said it had been pretty rubbish and I said 'well, apart from one standout (I have since rewatched Eoghan and have decided it was the best, me and my friend Martin were talking a bit through it first time round) and she went 'who, Ruth?', so some people liked it alot obviously. I think she is poor sometimes on the lower register and she suits high, long notes - her vocal runs aren't always great either. i think she's been disappointing the last two shows which is a shame as she can really belt it out! And why was she rehearsing movement with Brian? She didn't even move!

07. Rachel - Against All Odds

Actually quite sad to watch. Vocally it was okay, she hit some nice long notes, but the money note itself was painful.. I didn't find it very exciting, it constantly sounded like her voice was about to break, I didn't like the little girls cocktail dress, and I thought she looked like a totally different person, totally broken and defeated. It was sad, but that just didn't cut it for me.

------------

Overall

01. Alexandra

02. Diana

03. Ruth

04. JLS

05. Eoghan

06. Rachel

07. Daniel

Edited by Adam

Oh and the result!

Well, shocking stuff.. I assumed Rachel would safely get through on the back of bottom two last week and subsequent tears.. didn't expect Daniel to ride his luck this far though! Though to be fair as I said today's performance was not bottom two worthy!

On tonights performances and my judging, it should have been Ruth & Rachel bottom two, so I was surprised but not altogether too gutted that with Rachel through, Laura was the other act in the zone.

Final performances - Laura was okay although some of the ways she sang the notes were horrible - and dedicating it to her grandad like Austin last week made her look desperate.

Ruth on the other hand was phenomenal. Started off shaky but when she hit the higher notes and really screamed it out she was sensational... she does amazingly well for herself when she lets the rocker out!

Thought Ruth would be sent packing, but very happy Ruth stayed!

----------

As far as the outcome of the result, I'm actually happy because while there is no WAY Laura was 8th most talented and it is a real shame for her, I think she was Alexandras most direct competition, I think it was inevitable one of the three girls would fall early and I think there's every chance two of Cheryl's could make the final - so this gives Alex a much better chance in my eyes - let the hype start, please!

Here's an update on the performances members of Digitalspy have been downloading ^_^

Most Downloaded: Week 5 Performances:

Ruth Lorenzo: Knockin' On Heaven's Door: ...101 (Bottom 2 Performance)

Laura White: Over The Rainbow: ...................65 (Bottom 2 Performance)

Alexandra Burke: Without You: .....................58

Laura White: Endless Love: ...........................46

Ruth Lorenzo: My All: ...................................45

Eoghan Quigg: Anytime You Need A Friend: ....31

JLS: One Sweet Day: ....................................31

Mariah Carey: Hero: .....................................25 (Special Guest Performance)

Rachel Hylton: Against All Odds: ....................24

Mariah Carey: I Stay In Love: .......................20 (Special Guest Performance)

Daniel Evans: Open Arms: ............................18

Well it seems as if these results were anything to go by, That Ruth and Laura were wrongly in the bottom 2 last night! How ironic is it the Bottom 2 performances are the 2 most downloaded performances :o Ruth pulling ahead with quite a nice lead too! Ruth has the most successful Bottom 2 downloads coz both times she's been bottom 2 have been Top 2 on theses chart things they do. (Purple Rain just behind Diana - Man in the Mirror performance)

I'm pleased Laura went. She was hideously over-rated imo (just look at the over-reactions by some people here for example). She was bland, had a horrible image and having a relationship with an Executive on the show was never going to help her was it?

She sounded just like Belinda of BB fame when she sang 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow'. I was like "Que?". Such putrid, whiney vocals. She's more suited to jazzy music in all honesty.

A generally pap night all-in-all too:

Eoghan Quigg // Out of tune AGAIN and only got through his performance thanks to a choir. Gimmick Simon? Yes. Also, you could BARELY hear him at the beginning. Just wretched. Also compare him to Diana. There's less than A YEAR'S DIFFERENCE in age between them. One comes across as a total child and the other an adult. Bizarre tbf.

Rachel Hylton // I like her. It's a shame the confidence wasn't there and her pitching was totally off. Out of tune for large sections also. Trite cover, tritely performed. Glad she stayed on sympathy vote.

Ruth Lorenzo // She is obviously great but the song choice was hideously bland and just rubbish (Dannii striketh once more). I expect better from her next week. Rawk plz.

JLS // They have a very good lead vocalist and are well styled but that's about it. That said they ARE likebale. It's a shame they go for the most predictable song choices. I'd like to see them do something a bit different soon. It's all very obvious thus far.

Laura White // Ack. Hideous. All this "I'm a serious artist playing the piano" bullpoop too. She played the piano, got up and it kept going! What's going on there. Fake Laura. Bland song choice, sung hideously. BYE BYE as Mariah once recently sang.

Daniel Evans // It was okay. More blandness for the most part. Snooze.

Diana Vickers // That whole VT put me off her even more. She comes across as an absolute fake to me. Sat there, sad-faced. The scenes where sh was lying in bed, poorly...with all her make-up on?! How false can someone be. She's not who she says she is at all as far as I can see. She's also not that talented. I have yet to hear her take a risk with a song too. Hmm...

Alexandra Burke // It was very karaoke but brilliant vocals as ever. She's the full package to me. She's beautiful looking, charismatic, got rhythm and can dance. She may not have Leona's vocal range but to me, she may just be the one with THE X-Factor. Potential to be globally huge fo'sure.

So yeah. Disappointing night really. Showed off Mariah's back catalogue in the very worst of ways. Not that she has many amazing hits. It perplexed me tbh why she even had her own theme night. She just doesn't have the profile here and no-one cares. That said she was particularly LOL-worthy with her robotic ways when meeting the contestants. I was laughing-out-loud several times: when she met the contestants and generally looked bored and like she couldn't give two hoots and the blatantly scripted comments. Like hell she liked Eoghan or Daniel. LOL.

Ruth was fantastic in the bottom two. One of the best performances of the competition so far. Laura's rendition of SOTR was hideous and her vocals mismatched with the melody. The right person went home. Let's now hope for some more variety when it comes to "Best of British" week...

You can't have: Whitney Houston - Leonard Cohen - Carole King - George Gershwin -- they're American and Sarah McLachlan is Canadian

Yes you can, they're their ''backup'' songs, which means any song if in the bottom 2.

I'm pleased Laura went. She was hideously over-rated imo (just look at the over-reactions by some people here for example). She was bland, had a horrible image and having a relationship with an Executive on the show was never going to help her was it?

To quote President Obama - "if you put lipstick on a pig it is still a pig"

Eoghan, Daniel and so on no matter how much they are trained they will not become international superstars, Diana is a jack of all trades and a master of none, she simply doesn't have the vocal power in her voice

Laura even if she tried over hard at times still had that rawness that could be coached to provide a voice right up there with Christina, Leona. Celine etc etc, Laura has raw natural talent#

In the context of Obama Daniel, Eoghan and to some extent Diana will still be "pigs" no matter how they are dressed up, packaged, voice coached and so on as they simply haven't got that natural raw power in their voices and are weak vocally, Laura has that raw power as does Ruth and as does Alexandra
