So what does everyone think?

I'm on my second listen and it is very good I think. I'll think more about what my favourites are later.

A bit annoyed it's not really leaked, and it's only been ripped from Japanese iTunes but mehh! I'll give it a listen after i've listened to Kanye's new album is full HQ...

:o it's leaked? I will wait until Monday (Or Saturday :kink:) for my copy to come before I hear it :kink:

I'm getting it on monday .. id feel guilty downloading it :( got alota respect for the killers ^_^

Always is better to have it lagit anyways ;)

I'm gonna wait til Monday too.

I agree with Ms. Brightside - I'd feel guilty downloading it!

(I'll download other stuff illegally, but the Killers I feel I SHOULD buy. Plus I know I'll absolutely adore the album anyway )

I read a review for 'Day and Age' in a Sunday Times supplement and they gave it *****

And they're usually harsh on albums! :o

I'm buying it too. :heehee: But I always download now.

I've not even listened to it fully yet as i've been out all yesterday evening and night. But it's not struck me as amazing I must admit. BUT, saying that, the minute I heard the first song I did think, "this is going to be a grower of an album" and I still believe it will be. I'll give my opinion again when i've heard the album 5/6 times. What I will say is Stuart Price's influence is massive. The whole album honestly sounds like i'm stuck in the 80s with a pair of flares.

HMV Shipped mine out Yesterday so should hopefully get it on Saturday  and Wall E should come tomorrow :kink:

I love it atm.

A Dustland Fairytale

Goodnight, Travel Well builds up really well, not a weak track on the album in my opinion.

Edited by Ashford.

I've just heard losing touch ..

I had all the songs come up on limewire its soooo temptinnnggggg

I reckon it's going to take a lot of listens before I really like the album. I really WANT to love it, but I just don't at the moment. It's very slow and laid back for the most part, and it's hard to adjust to it. Maybe I just need to listen to the lyrics instead of the tunes. I can see why it's gained very good reviews though. It certainly sounds a much maturer (sp?) album, and the production is top notch.

My review scoring, of it as I am listening for the first time, I will review again in a couple of days, to see how different my preference is :kink:

01| The Losing Touch: I really like this  8/10

02| Human: Well we all know this, no doubt it's one of their best singles, ever! 10/10

03| Spaceman: Simply AMAZING! But it's one of those tracks that is better LIVE! But it's a fantastic choice for 2nd single  10/10

04| Joy Ride: Not as good as the first three, but it's still good :o I like it  8/10

05| A Dustland Fairytale: My favourite Album track so far! It deserves a release! and I can imagine this live! 10

---------------------HALF WAY MARK---------------------------------------

TBH IMO so far from the first 5 tracks, I think this is quite possibly my fave Killers album so far :o Let's just see if it holds up ^_^

---------------------HALF WAY MARK---------------------------------------

06| This is Your Life: Fantastic song. But it should solely be an album track, I love it, but it's not single material! 9/10

07| I Can't Stay: Oh, this is very different! I'm not sure what to think of this TBH! It's one of those, shouldn't work, but somehow does ;) 7/10

08| Neon Tiger: Very good song, although it's another one of those that will No doubt sound better live! 8/10

09| The World We Live In: When it started I was thinking, this is the worst on here so far, but when it gets into it, it's actually pretty good! 8/10

10| Goodnight, Travel Well: Love the start, it's quite dark and eerie REALLY like it. In fact the whole song is quite dark and sinister I can imagine this song closing their set or something! 9/10

11| BONUS Track: Crippling Blow: The B-Side to 'Human' and it is so worthy a place on the album! I think it's wicked! 8/10

Overall: IMO this is The Killers best album so far. But it's too early to make that bold statement. But that's probably because I think it's their most commercial album to date, and I'm a sucker for commercial stuff  It's fantastic, I don't think I HATE or Dislike ANY song TBH! It's a brilliant album and will be one of my faves of the year... AGAIN! :kink:

ROONEY'S REVIEW

The Killers 3rd album is somewhat or a stepping stone for the band, as it is the first album that truly shows their colours. Unlike the previous albums "Sam's Town" and "Hot Fuss", Day & Age really sounds like what you would expect The Killers to sound like. The whole album shadows the hometown of Las Vegas, with the Vegas and laid back setting, so in truth it really does sound like The Killers.

With a little bit of help from Stuart Price, The Killers have taken on a sound much like New Order, and to cap it all off the album accompanies the 80s feel about it. The album itself is much more mellow and thoughtful than the previous two albums. It is likely to be very hit and miss, muchly down to the fact aside of two or three songs it doesn't feature many 'classic' Killers songs as it would be put. Instead the album adapts a much slower and mature sound which signifies the growth of the band.

Lyrically the album has a few mis-haps, but generally that is normally the case with The Killers. The absorbing sound of 'Spaceman' is the song that sounds most likely to be off Hot Fuss, and the catchy beat and chorus is sure to make it a classic festival anthem within time. Tracks such as 'This is Your Life' and 'A Dustyland Fairytale' give the album a magical and even surreal tone about the album.

It is hard to imagine how much The Killers have progressed as a band since their earlier days, and unlike a lot of indie-pop bands that have come back with albums in 2008, The Killers certainly breaks the trend from being extremely disappointing. It's not the sort of album that is going to have Indie-Topshop kids harparing on about, but Day & Age certainly shows a new age to The Killers.

8.7 out of 10
