Controversy does not sell a song though? 'I Kissed a Girl' did well because it was anthemic and had a very good hook. People don't just listen to a song and think: "ooh that's a bit taboo, a bit risque" *downloads*.

 

That's such an ignorant view to take on chart music because I don't think anyone can honestly say they do that or indeed know anyone who does that?

Controversy doesn't sell directly, however, if the press latch onto a controversial song, and mention it. People will be more inclined to search youtube for it to find out what the fuss is about, which would then lead to sales from the people who liked it.

 

Controversy indirectly sells through the media would probably be a more accurate way of describing it.

 

The lyrics of the verses for EHB would be latched onto by the press as they are obviously about murdering ex boyfriends. Which in today's hideously over PC world would not go down well with the Tabloids. "Sugababes Glamorise Murder" etc etc etc

 

People would then youtube EHB and some would download it. Either illegally or legally

As controversal as EHB is and as much as I like it [it's the best song on Catfights by far].

No way would it be a big hit. It probably would do worse than 'Girls' did if released for a lead single. It just still lacks something imo.

I suspect No Can Do will be the hardest single flop from Sugababes ever, but maybe not in terms of sales because of the Christmas rush.

I wash my hands of this era, and i think they should sack the management and tell Island to shove it.

 

I will buy NCD for my collection, but to be quite frank i don't care where it charts now, because no doubt if something actually went right about this era the combination of management and label would f*** it up again anyway.

The problem with the Sat's id that tyhey may peak too early and not get their potential chart position- if that's what they're looking for then so be it.

i think the saturdays have done much better than expected.. a #5, a #8 and a #11 album! i love their music, and hope they manage to produce an album with a Umbrella or Bleeding Love, you know, a really standout number one hit, next time round, although i love their singles so far.. id imagine Issues will manage top 10 especially as its coming out in januray

i'm not worried about The Sats, i am sure that with the radio edit of Issiues they will reach the Top10 on ¡Tunes, it is a great song!
