January 3, 200916 yr Anita had pipes, but was maybe not right for Eurovision ... she could have gone the way of Charlotte Perelli, and come a respectable place, or flopped like Poland. 18th is respectable for us nowadays? :heehee:
January 3, 200916 yr I was thinking the same :( I also  At least they don't have the bloody X Factor loyalty to get them through! :funky:
January 3, 200916 yr Sadly I'm not convinced of the final six, the only acts of the final six that appeals to me are Mark & Damien. Jade was a late entry, so I'm not convinced there, a 'plant' maybe. I hope The Emperors of Soul don't win, its like Andy Abraham all over again, but this time its a band. The other two acts can fall of the planet for all I care, they were atrocious, Charlotte and the Twins could get emotional and wreck it for us. ==== They should have kept Katie, she was a understudy of the Phantom of the Opera, she could have had huge potential if coached properly, and the guy with the spiky hair, instead of Charlotte and The "Crying" Twins.
January 3, 200916 yr Emperors are Soul are just 5 Andy Abrahams Funny enough, my thoughts exactly when I saw them.
January 3, 200916 yr Emperors of Soul were terrible... really hope they don't win but I have a horrible feeling they'll do well. I personally want the Twins to win or that girl who joined late. The Twins have something about them which I can't quite put my finger on and the girl who joined late had a bit of Ani Lorak about her. :magic:
January 3, 200916 yr Oh and for those who were feeling a bit more upbeat about the whole thing, I've just seen this on Digital Spy! Andrew Lloyd Webber has claimed that the UK has no chance of winning the Eurovision Song Contest this year. The theatre composer has agreed to write the new entry and is also searching the UK for an act who will perform it. However, Lloyd Webber has now insisted that Eurovision fans should not take the grand final too seriously when it is held in Moscow on May 16. "We're not going to win it, let's face it," he explained. "I don't think that's possible, but at the same time we could have a laugh along the way. It's Eurovision. I think secretly everybody watches it and secretly everybody has a bit of a laugh about it." The 60-year-old added that recent UK entrants had failed because their songs were "absolute and total rubbish". The launch of Lloyd Webber's search can be seen on Eurovision: Your Country Needs You at 7.10pm tonight on BBC One.
January 3, 200916 yr To be honest you have to give them a chance we haven't really seen their full potential, the heats themselves will iron out the dead wood from next week.

Watched the show (of course!) Emperors Of Soul were actually very good but completely not right for this show. The Twins were cute but would need a LOT of practice, Damien is a good bet and has lots of experience (I'd be glad to test that :kink:). Jade seems good but I know nothing about her so far. It's all about the song though, and the performance is second. I haven't lost hope yet...
January 3, 200916 yr 18th is respectable for us nowadays? :heehee: 18th is an improvement from joint 25th!
January 3, 200916 yr Jade, Mark and Damien are all very good! The Twins and Emperors of Soul are ok but not great. Not really fussed on Charlotte. I really liked the 2nd girl band that didn't get through and the girl that sang Fields of Gold
January 3, 200916 yr Kinda want the twins to win because: a) They're hot b ) They're crap :yahoo: Edited January 3, 200916 yr by ags_rule

January 4, 200916 yr I have mixed views on this, it would have been better had ITV been handling it, as more people would have applied/performed for the judges for a start...it seemed like ALW picked his 6 out of only about 12 acts all in all... I do think all of the acts have potential apart from Emperors of Soul (awful band name) and the piano guy (can't remember his name right now)

I do think all of the acts have potential apart from Emperors of Soul (awful band name) and the piano guy (can't remember his name right now) Compared to the calibre of BBC1's How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria & I'd Do Anything (where X-Factor's Eggnog got KO'd for the part of Oliver before the last 16) the talent is nowhere near as good IMHO. Only Jade shone out for me, and I'm not convinced she'd pick up many votes east of Berlin. The BBC should have gone & black mailed (offered a load of money) for either Katie Melua or Melanie C (whose record sales in Eastern Europe would make Girls Aloud green with envy) to be our representative, or bring Cyndi back who would have got a Top 5 finish (as proved by her success in the subsequent runners up competition) with her song that lost out to Scooch.
January 4, 200916 yr Melanie C wouldn't do it as she now prides herself on writing and releasing her own music...her 2005 song First Day Of My Life was absolutely excellent but nothing on her last album particularly shone out and I can't see her wanting to sing an ALW composition I'll reserve judgement though, many people sound a lot better (or worse) when on the live stage. We do have jury votes now though as well as televotes so we should at least get something if the song's any good, and it will be quite interesting to see the subtitles 'written and composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber' flash up on the screen before our entry comes on in May!
January 4, 200916 yr This discussion is utterly redundant until the UK stops treating the show as a total joke with complete contempt and sends something of musical merit to the competition. The last time we did that was in 2002 & surprise surprise we finished 3rd. Since then we've sent rubbish & got the results we richly deserved as a result. Fair enough, although Javines "Touch My Fire" was certainly worthy of a top ten placing at least. I think there is a lot of resentment towards the UK for several reasons and not being a part of the Eastern Block countries doesn't help. I think all we need to do is send an almost-as-god-as Leona Lewis type singer (surely these are ten-a-penny) with a memorable ballad and away you go!

You are joking, that song was an abysmal copy of a previous year's winning song. (The irony was that the song Jordan sung was much better, just that Jordan could not sing her way out of a paper bag, so if Javine had sung that we could have grabbed a top half finish.) We have not sent a decent song since 2002. Something ALW has said; therefore we've sent total crap since 2002 & reaped the deserved results as a consequence. But unfortunately the media & in particular Terry Wogan have ignored that fact for the past 6 years playing the xenophobic everybody hates us card instead. Whilst the rest of Europe has looked on wondering why the UK has been taking the p!$$ out of the competition sending a procession of nonentities singing garbage.
January 4, 200916 yr Emperors of Soul would give us another 25th place even with a Lloyd Webber song. This contest is incompatiable for them. Mark - Sexy as hell and a good voice. The Twins - The best choice in my opinion for the UK. Charlotte - Her voice hurts my hymen and it's another Duffy (zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz) Damien - Please. He is full of arrogance and is NOT a good singer. Jade - Seems OKish.
January 4, 200916 yr I actually quite liked Touch My Fire but it was so bloody unoriginal, plus it didnt help that Javine sang rather baddly on the night (was she ill? i cant remember) Anyway i would definatly place Javine as the best UK entry since Jessica Garlick, not that it was hard. Another thought is that if they could manage to get The Saturdays and McFly to wish Andrew luck then surely they could also pay them and a few other liked and popular artists in the UK to actually be in the contest.
