Why are people already on a downer about songs like Gabriella when Christmas is a whole week away, and will most probably be like Haloween, a quick climbing stint on the day before and during Chrimbo! I'm still quite hopeful TBH! -_-

But halloween "hype" is only about a week long, whilst xmas is at least a month...

BTW anyone find it ironic how Gabriella Cilmi does an xmas song about winter, where in australia christmas is in the middle of summer and doesn't really get cold anyway?

Me too, fairly. The Christmas songs will all climb again next week. As Christmas Day and Boxing Day are thursday and friday, and then it's the weekend, I think people will be extending their celebrations this year.

Do you think it is really just because of the campaign?

In the past there were several other similar campaigns and all have failed (Spice Girls - Stop for example).

Oh it's definitely the campaign. This one has got national coverage and far more internet hype than anything previous.

Another example, Leona and Leon have both recorded cover versions of their winners songs last year, yet I didn't see the originals rocketing up the iTunes chart!

Tbh Jeff's group are downloading him from different sites about 5 times each from different sites and gifting tonnes on iTunes, so he is bound to close seeing as Alex is doing like 30k+ downloads a day, and Jeff's is rising to nearly 20k due to this campaign.

Next week, it will be Jeff who? As his version tumbles cos of this fixing of the chart!

LOL whatever!

They were both appalling songs though, be it in the original or cover versions ... in contrast Hallelujah is considered a classic and the Buckley version has widespread acknowledgment as a/the definitive version hence its use in so many films/TV shows. In fact it's early appearance on iTunes and in the charts this year prior to the X-Factor Final owes more to the BBC's use of the song to advertise the iPlayer for the last month.

I don't think so. Like RFC said this is definitely a campaign for Jeff Buckley... Colin Murray is constantly banging on about downloading the track, and it's all over the internet and stuff.

Yes! The Killers' awesome Christmas song in the top 40 :cheer:
Do you think it is really just because of the campaign?

In the past there were several other similar campaigns and all have failed (Spice Girls - Stop for example).

... and the current Rick Astley Never Gonna Give You Up campaign.

The simple reason the Jeff Buckley version is doing so well is that a lot of people who have not heard the song until it was performed on X-Factor, but have since found out about this version & understandably prefer the definitive version to the X-Factor's winning song.

After all why have a McDonalds Burger when you can have a Medium Rare Steak from a cuisine restaurant.

Shame really as the X Factor winning song that deserves the Top spot the most for 4 weeks, looks likely to only get a week :( Nah Alexandra's physicals will still be bursting next week!

Thats a excellent point :cheer:

:o Thats quite a steep decline really. I wouldn't be surprised if i saw it doing about 50k next week. Combining all version Jeff Buckley will be quite close. Wouldn't be surprised if that was #1, at least on itunes for a bit.

As people get tired of Alex's version they will start looking for others, Jeff Buckley at #2 will be the most obvious.
