Posted December 13, 200816 yr The plot follows the adventures of London teenager Luke Rutherford who learns that he is the last descendant of the Van Helsing line by the sudden arrival of his American godfather Rupert Galvin. Luke is charged with the role of smiting the gathering dark forces of the world whilst trying to live an ordinary life of exams and parties. Rupert Galvin helps train Luke with the assistance of Mina Harker, a blind concert pianist and authority on half-lives (such as vampires, demons, zombies, and werewolves). Luke's best friend Ruby also joins in on the action. From the trailers it does look quite good... not too sure on the special effects however. Certainly an original idea too. No sarcasm intended at all.
December 13, 200816 yr I just want to see Paris Hilton make a t*** out of herself on the streets of London on ITV next year. Im not too sure about Demons though... Edited December 13, 200816 yr by Joao Filipe
December 14, 200816 yr Who cares if its a Buffy ripoff? :o It's not like it will beat Muffy EVER and I kinda need as much supernatural/occult/demonology shiz in my life as is possible. But I'm interested already. Any idea when it will actually start?
December 14, 200816 yr Who cares if its a Buffy ripoff? :o It's not like it will beat Muffy EVER I was just pointing out is all.... And, frankly, when UK tries to copy ideas such as this from the States (such as the way Britannia High has copied High School Musical and the way Primeval copied Jurassic Park...) it usually turns out to be rather lame and second rate, especially when ITV is involved  .... And besides, you want to see some really good "supernatural/occult shiz", I would suggest checking out the rather excellent recent BBC "Apparitions" show with Martin Shaw, "Exorcist" the series a bit, granted, but it has some pretty neat twists along the way (such as an episode with a nasty serial rapist being possessed by the spirit of a Saint as opposed to a Demon) and excellent writing which elevates it above mere "rip-off" territory....
December 14, 200816 yr Any idea when it will actually start? Jan 3rd I think its trying to jump on Twilight, but from the trailers it looks pretty good. Just surprised Primeval is not back for Jan
December 14, 200816 yr Author The reason the shows are not as good as the US, is they have nowhere near the amount of budgets the US. They don't have as much choice for script writers, or actors, which is why they normally faulter. I'll watch it as it does look quite good, but i'd assume that without Phillip Glenister in the lead role then this show would be terrible ratings wise... but ti does look quite good, except for some shoddy cgi.

I don't think shoddy is the right word for it. The adverts show a good concept, but nothing "gripping" that makes me want to watch it (unlike Dead Set).
December 15, 200816 yr Is there a trailer available online anywhere? http://www.screenrush.co.uk/article/fichea...e=18437038.html :cheer: looking awesome or yZj-edxS09s
December 15, 200816 yr ^^^ Ooooh he's cute :o I'm not too fussed on good effects and what not though obviously if it looks appallingly fake then I'll raise an eyebrow. I look for a good blend of drama/comedy/fantasy and strong characterisation and development as well as good storylines :P

You dont need a particularly big budget for summat like "Britannia High" though... Just a decent script and some decent actors.... Er, which is doesn't have, same goes for the godawful "Primeval"...... When ITV did "Afterlife" as a sort of "Sixth Sense" type of thing, it didn't have big budgets at all, but it bloody well DID have great writing which ran the gamut of emotions, and in Andrew Lincoln and Lesley Sharp, supremely talented actors who completely made you identify with their characters', who needed big budgets when you had the talent...? Same goes for "Apparitions"... Not a huge budget, no fancy CGI, just great writing and seriously good acting... Get that right and the rest is almost irrelevant IMO....

Yeah that's very true, but a big budget really helps. Shows like Spooks, Hustle etc. whilst have been very good, sometimes whilst watching them I can't help but feel with that little bit extra budget they could be seriously amazing. Unfortunately ITV and BBC don't have anywhere NEAR the same budjets CBS, FOX, NBC, ABC and The CW have...

"Spooks" has suffered a bit of dip in the quality of writing in the past couple of series'IMO, so, I do tend to notice the shortcomings more.... The Hustle, I've just never really liked that much tbh.... I've always just thought "Oceans 11 or The Grifters without the class".....
December 16, 200816 yr From the trailer this looks pretty good. And I don't think it even looks that cheap, especially compared to Dr Who which looks like it was produced by CBBC. That's the main reason I can't watch Dr Who, it just looks terrible, even though some of the storylines are quite intruiging.
January 6, 200916 yr how cheesy was it lol. the theme.... c'mon lol. it was ok though. will watch again 2 c how it plays out
January 6, 200916 yr  Loved how they played Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby! That was one of the worst bits! It was like they named the character specifically so they could play that (actually they probably did). But all is forgiven as Christian Cooke is lovely. I'm not shallow at all.
January 6, 200916 yr I quite enjoyed this, and I was sceptical that I would as it looked like (and was) a total rip off of loads of other shows. WTF at the bloke from Life On Mars accent though?!
