Lets not let that $h!tty X Factor version of the song get to number 1, lets get the greatest version of the song up there.

Following the rather depressing news that this year's X factor finalist will be covering Leonard Cohen's beautiful 'Hallelujah,' I think everyone should download the Jeff Buckley version, instead of buying the inevitably soulless version churned out by Simon Cowell's Crimbo flash in the pan.

This is not a group intended to make cruel or derogatory remarks about any participants in this years X factor, but if you love Buckley's version, let's make sure everyone forgets the pale imitation as quickly as possible.

I doubt this will work, but if I am willing to download this version the week the X factor version comes out, I hope others will too.

To make this as easy as possible we will post the download links, but make sure you WAIT UNTIL the 15th... (many thanks to Kevin Adams)

http://www.7digital.com/artists/jeff-buckley/hallelujah-1/ - unencumbered high quality 320k mp3 89p (that's what I'm getting next week).

http://www.tunetribe.com/product/index.html?id=604507 - cheaper but semi-crippled WMA (windows file) only 49p

http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore...01&s=143444 - 79p but DRM AAC file from Apple

Some links to download from next week - they're all recorded by the official UK chart.

if he carries on selling, there could be two versions in the top ten come Sunday...

even with a campaign i doubt he would beat Alexandra but i reckon he could make it high in the chart, his version is so much better anyway, one of the best songs ever.

It wont sell 100k, so probably won't even beat Leona, whose physical is out this week!

These campaigns start off well, but as soon as people find out it aint even close, people DONT waste their money!

P.S most people who downloaded it last nite, probably did so cos Alex's wasnt available!

Edited by Xmas Loves Mr.I

Rufus Wainright's version is better than Jeff's! I bet his people are now regretting not allowing it to be downloaded as a stand-alone track.

If you like Jeff's version and want to own it, buy it. But if you are doing it as some kind of stupid protest then you are a bigger sheep than anyone who loves Alexandra or her version downloading her rendition. The sad thing is most of those who are making these protest downloads will think they are much better than those who buying something they like.

tbh I don't think that such a campaign can compete with a tv show although I really like Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah!

yeah these sort of campaigns always fail tbh

and yeah i agree with the P.S statement, people should wait until tomorrow to download so it actually counts on the christmas chart.

Fair point, but dont agree about being a bigger sheep.

yeah well tbh a former hit cant even come close to proberly the most watched program in the UK, even if Jeff's is ALOT better, and actually worth listening to. (same goes for Cohen's).

Maybe, also Leonard Cohen's version might end up top 40, and maybe Rufus Wainwright etc etc in the top 100

btw does anyone know how many different acts have recorded the track.

Sunday's sales counts always to the following week so today's downloads count to the Christmas chart already.

I hope the JB version is a hit but of course nothing will stop Alexandra claiming the Christmas #1!
I think Jeff could go top 30, or at the very most top 20. But he's not going to be any threat to Alexandra, Leona, or even Geraldine
Agreed... JB version of this song is one of the best song ever. Sorry ALEX. :)
Alexandra's version is actually very good. I seriously doubt Jeff Buckley will reach about 300k/400k, it could easily reach Top 10, but I feel like its similar to people buying karaoke versions of Run (Leona) because they are so desperate to get the actual version, so sales could very easily drop now that Alexandra's version is available to download :yahoo:
I just noticed that Alexandra's version cuts two verses from the original (and JLS' did too I think)...

Last Week, Gordon Smart. 'Bizarre page - 'The Sun'), joined the Campaign to get

Jeff Buckley's verison to No.1 . He's encouraging 'The Sun' readers to Download it.

(He already claims that it was down to his 'The Sun' Campaign that 'Run' became

available as a UK Download. In fact, it was always going to be a 'Single' - Sony &

Simon Cowell just wanted to force UK Leona Fans to buy her 'Deluxe' 'Spirit' -

for a few Weeks - by making them think that it was the only way to get 'Run').

Anyhow, we could end up with 2 versions of 'Hallelujah' in the Christmas Top 10.

I like the Jeff Buckley version, but I think the Intro. is far too long.

Alexandra Burke will obviously have the Christmas No.1 with it. I find it all very

depressing. It means that of the final 5 No.1's of 2008, 3 have been Cover versions

- and all 3 have 'X Factor' connections. Whatever happened to creativity in Music?
