December 17, 200816 yr What the? They are a fun group with happy songs and "Boyfriend" was a potential #1 in the making if the bloody radio stations didnt play the bland album version. As usual here in the UK, we can't appreicate anything of quality and have to like pompous t**** like Coldplay, cheap and slutty R and B music, and lining Mr Cowell's pockets.
December 17, 200816 yr Apparently they only had a one album deal and EMI / Charisma have chosen not to renew it. Kinda makes sense as the band do seem to be on the wane and nobody knows the ins and outs of the deal - they may simply have asked for more than the label thinks they're worth. It does make you wonder whether anyone will ever sign long term deals again though.
December 17, 200816 yr But they were on 4Music with Nick Grimshaw the other week and I swear they said they were doing a 2nd album  So Sad! :(

December 17, 200816 yr Yeah, second album from them is confirmed. They spoke about it on an interview on DS.
December 17, 200816 yr They probably are, but only releasing it in Denmark :P They've been releasing in Europe too, so I suspect the rest of Europe will get it too
December 18, 200816 yr im surprised they have got dropped so quick as the album did quite ok and i have seen acts sell less albums and go on to make a 2nd album,,io think the recrd comany should have let them recrord a new single and see how it went down and make their decision from that,,however alphbeat will go off to join acts like scooch allstarz, fats food rockers and cartoons and probably wont be heard of again
December 18, 200816 yr Alphabeat should not be compared to acts such as Cartoons and Fast Food Rockers :heehee: theirs is a far less respectable pop :P
December 18, 200816 yr It's so stupid to drop them :o One massive single and 2 moderate successes. Like people have said, there are so many artists who do worse and still have a deal.
December 18, 200816 yr OMG Not Alphabeat. Reading the all the comments though it looks like the 4th single is to blame for the drop. I hope they get picked up real soon. Polydor (Girls Aloud, Sophie Ellis-Bextor & Miley Cyrus) seem to specialize in pure pop music and actually have a record company called "Fascination". It's calling for them
December 18, 200816 yr Anyone have any idea how many copies their album sold?! I know it made the Top 10 and I am sure it would have cleared 200,000 sales - And with 3 Top 20 singles too they are quite a successful act to drop!

December 19, 200816 yr Anyone have any idea how many copies their album sold?! I know it made the Top 10 and I am sure it would have cleared 200,000 sales - And with 3 Top 20 singles too they are quite a successful act to drop! Just over 100,000 I think.
December 19, 200816 yr They are now without a label. EMI has decided to let them go. Poor Alphabeat. Surely one top 10, two top 15s and a gold album were enought (?!) :o Is nobody safe in the music industry anymore?! 3 Top 15 singles, and a Gold album and they still get dropped!! the saturdays BEWARE!
December 19, 200816 yr the saturdays BEWARE! Too much money has been invested in them to drop them just yet :P
December 19, 200816 yr Too much money has been invested in them to drop them just yet :P maybe, but it does highlight what some of us have been saying on one of the original saturdays threads... its a business and if the returns arnt matching investment expectations then they too WILL be dropped. potential, talent (thats arguable!), etc dont come into the equasion.. they either make a decent return or they are out.

Of course and the stakes are high for 'The Saturdays' as so much has been spent on the band already - Hopefully the TV advertising of the album in mid January will get the sales Polydor/Fascination are looking for :) ...Although I'm not too worried as Fascination have stuck by Sophie Ellis Bextor after 2 flop singles and 2 flop albums :)

In a nutshell.... The Sats have not exactly set the world alight, all the hype, the press attention, etc, and they got totally outsold by the likes of Metallica and Slipknot in terms of album sales... As for Alphabeat.... Well, I'm with Craig...
