December 21, 200816 yr Like Top of the Pops (especially in the heyday) was a promotional tool, like GMTV is a promotional tool, like music channels are a promotional tool - do you know what - lets ban all music being played so the system is fair Yes thanks for the sarcastic comment. Was really unnecessary imo, and you haven't really understand what I wanted to write. I meant an X Factor is a competition, a talent show of course make big splash, surely the winner will sell really well. My problem is, they ruin the Christmas chart. It is predictable. TOTP, music channels, radios or different tools are different. They are introducing songs, making people the possibility to choose from songs if they want to buy something and that's every week. They don't make the chart predictable, they make it diverse. (of course tv chanels, radios won't play everything, they have playlists, but the variety of songs are big).
December 21, 200816 yr Author Alex beat Leona by 5k? :o No Jeff Buckley has apparently beaten leona by 8,000 copies.
December 21, 200816 yr Well, it's official - the world has gone mad. Jeff Buckley's version is miles ahead of Alexandra's. Oh, and LOL at the irony of Alexandra getting the No. 1 with a song about the female orgasm!
December 21, 200816 yr No Jeff Buckley has apparently beaten leona by 8,000 copies. you certainly live up to your screen name. She was referring to A moment like this against Halleluja... <_< I'm offended. Edited December 21, 200816 yr by Aaron™
December 21, 200816 yr 'The X Factor' is used by Simon Cowell - every Year - as a 'Product Placement' Show, for Acts that he has an interest in. Westlife are either on it every Year, or their Songs are Sung by some of the Contstants. Il Divo were on it this Year. Leona Lewis will get plugged on it every Year from now on. And, Songs that appear on 'American Idol', also end up on 'The X Factor'. It is obviously down to Simon - he's on both Shows. It's like, 'Oh I like this one! I'll get Il Divo or Westlife - or both - to record it. Then I'll get one of the Acts on 'American Idol' to Sing it. Then I'll get an Act on 'The X Factor' to Sing it too'. It's as calculated - and unimaginative - as that..... Sorry - but it is useless to claim that it is the same as 'Top Of The Pops'. That Show was not used as a 'Product Placement' Tool by one Man. 'The X Factor' is. I read the TV Critics Columns, & many of them have noticed what Simon uses the Show for. Thank God the BBC did not let him 'buy' 'TOTP's! It would be endless 'X Factor' Songs, & plugs for Il Divo, Westlife, Leona, & Alexandra - Week in, Week out!
December 21, 200816 yr I agree as a Brit I feel very embarrassed that Alexandra is being so hyped, especially when you compare her to the fantastic new US female R'N'B singer Jazmine Sullivan who vocally blows Alexandra out of the water in a similar way that Justin Timberlake blows Shayne Ward out the water. Lol, I don't think Jazmine blows Alexandra, and this comes from a fan of Jazmine. I think that with some professional vocal training, Alex should easily be at the same level as Jazmine in a years time - and Jazmine is 21. The only young RnB singer I can think of who would probably blow Alex out of the water is JoJo, but to be fair Jojo is a massive exception and the voice of her tween generation, considering almost all of her contemparies are manufactured disney artists. But the reason Alex is so special is because she's so diverse and can sing anything as she showed on the X Factor, she can dance so well and just has everything, something that most of her contamparies like Jazmine Sullivan or even Jojo just don't have in one form or another. And anyway, the US argument should be saved for another day, she first of all has to focus on cracking the UK! Edited December 21, 200816 yr by Rena
December 21, 200816 yr Author  you certainly live up to your screen name. Sure do, Ma'am :D I was confused as to what you were referring :P

December 21, 200816 yr Interesting! Although you can't really class Beyonce in there as it reached number 1 BEFORE she performed on X Factor  True, but it's less fun that way :P
December 21, 200816 yr Beyonce sang it on Strictly Come Dancing. Does that count? Oh, and LOL at the irony of Alexandra getting the No. 1 with a song about the female orgasm! Except it isn't really. That's the urban legend version based on a misquote of what Jeff Buckley said when explaining how he chose to interpret the song. And Jeff knew full well that his interpretation was just that, and might not be the same as the original writer.
December 21, 200816 yr Looking at the lyrics it's hard to see what else it could be about. Especially considering the fact that when Cohen performs the song live he replaces certain lyrics with overt sexual references.
December 21, 200816 yr But American Idol is a Simon Fuller show not a Simon Cowell show, and I'd rather trust some one who came up with The Spice Girls, S Club 7 & Cathy Dennis than someone who come up with Robson & Jerome, Zig & Zag, The Teletubbies & Westlife. To be fair Zig & Zag had had a fair bit of chart success in Ireland before that (a couple of no 1 singles and a Top 3 album) without having to rely on Cowell! :) Biggest laugh of the week was an interview that Louis Walsh did on Irish TV on Friday afternoon! On the subject of he song Hallelujah the tw*t said "loads of people have covered it, even Leonard Cohen did a version" Edited December 21, 200816 yr by Shaky Fan
